  1. Gotta be careful here - need to continue attacking the basket
  2. At Texas he won 4 his first year: #3 UNC @ #6 WVU #10 WVU #3 Oklahoma Last year we beat #8 TTU So 6 here
  3. Agreed - tonight was a great win but I'd really like to see us score consistently against a team playing a zone before we start sucking our own dicks.
  4. The one thing I will say (and I don't want to rain on the parade because this was an awesome win) is that I do think UCLA/MSU will not be as stubborn as Roy about going into a zone. That's the one thing to watch - if we can beat a team that zones us consistently, then the ceiling for this season jumps.
  5. Luke Maye hasn't played well but he isn't a scrub
  6. Starting to feel like last year's Duke game
  7. It's a small thing but the threat of Hepa from the corner kept Luke Maye from helping down on Roach's dunk --> shows what the value of a guy his size that can shoot may eventually provide to this team (or next year's team)
  8. He's got better ball handling around him (0 PGs on that 16-17 team, and Matt Coleman was a true freshman last yr)
  9. How in the world did he not go up with the ball there?
  10. Which is nicely paired with our guys hitting no shots to start the game.
  11. Don't mistake pessimism for a lack of love for the team - I would be overjoyed to be proven wrong
  12. Sadly I think this is 100% right. The offense is not bad structurally, but unless the shots fall and Matt gets right, it won't matter one iota. I think this team looks like another 19-20 win (pre-NCAA) team that sweats it out on the bubble. We'll go 10-3 OOC, 9-9 or 10-8 in the big 12, and then finish the season losing a close game in the first round of the NCAAs. Rinse, repeat
  13. I do think he's dumb for running a read and react offensive system - it's great for creating NBA prospects and less so for actually scoring points in the college game. I think it sort of works if you have elite, NBA one-and-done prospect guard who can shoot or an experienced guard who has drilled in the system for ages (Isaiah Taylor was in his first season in the system and Javan Felix was.... limited). You also need shooters off the ball. I disagree with the choice of the system - in the college game it reduces your margin for error because it requires you to either recruit at an insanely high level or develop across multiple years and then hit the pot of gold in your tourney run once every 3-4 years. It also requires you to consistently roll out an elite defense which Shaka has done so far at Texas so I'll assume for a second he can continue to maintain that This season with Coleman and his year in the system on ball, Long, Roach, (fingers crossed) AJ1, Febres?, and Osetkowski spacing him with an athletic rim runner in Sims he may finally (again knock on wood) have the offensive personnel to make his system work and Texas *could* have a big season. But even there I wish he didn't run this system - it gives him no margin for error if those "shooters" don't turn out be league average or if Coleman stops hitting long twos at an unsustainable rate etc.
  14. That being said I do agree with this. If and only if there is a great option out there, and if and only if Texas does not win 21-22 regular season games and 1+ tourney games or more tourney games with fewer regular season wins then I could see CDC make the move
  15. So 2016 was def bad - but you consider the 2017 team worse than 2012-13 when we went 16-18 and lost to fucking Chaminade? Worse than Penders' last year when we went 14-17. Or 92-93 when we went 11-17? Last year's team had it's share of struggles sure and there are micro level things that were bad decisions (not putting in Sims against Duke or against anyone till Bamba went down, etc), but the context of an NBA-prospect shooting guard (and basically our only good 3 point shooter) going down has to give some margin for error. Texas isn't a Kansas/Kentucky/Duke type program that can just survive the loss of their best offensive player without a hitch.
  16. [S&P+] Oklahoma St. 33 - Texas 26 [/S&P+] https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/10/25/18021968/college-football-picks-week-9-2018-predictions-odds-spreads
  17. Without Murray it will be tough to find the defensive pulse. I will say that Derozan is a better playmaker than Kawhi - we might be closer to the Beautiful Game Spurs this year than we have been since 2014. The Defensive side of the ball is where we'll get killed - and where Murray getting hurt is going to be a huge loss.
  18. If you want to re-live '08, this cuts the game down to 45 minutes
  19. sadly this --> I do have some optimism that we can score on them to keep pace though. I see something like 2016 - closeish game late with OU winning something like 42-38
