  1. Perhaps I’m being whooshed, but I don’t think I know anyone who would argue that Baldwin wasn’t the best hands down. Great movie. Find myself stopping and watching every time I see it on.
  2. Just watched on Hulu. Pretty predictable but entertaining enough. I’ve definitely seen worse Predator movies. Yes they missed in showing Comanche horseback prowess.
  3. Because the PAC 12/10 is in their negotiating window and the networks/bidders are trying to drive down their worth with “leaks” for public consumption?
  4. Had to be. That was insane. sucks for Ortega. He’ll be back though and they’ll do it again.
  5. Just returned from Charleston area. First time there and really like it. Second the Obstinate Daughter recommendation. It’s on Sullivan’s Island and I thought was great. In mount pleasant is a pizza place called Coastal Crust. Everyone in our group really enjoyed their pizza. Cool outdoor area too. Upset that we didn’t go to Lewis. I had it on the list but some couple claiming to be from TX convinced the group to go to Poogan’s Smokehouse saying it was the “closest thing to home”and was about a one minute walk from where we we were at the time so we went there. Meh.
  6. Only caught the last three fights. good to see Joanna get retired. That spinning back fist connected perfectly. valentina fight was lame. Close but not exciting. main event was crazy. I can’t remember I fight where I was like “no, no” and then they go ahead and do it. I think Jiri was so gassed he just stayed in bad spots and Glover took advantage. Glover had him finished on the feet and went for the guillotine and lost him. Then Jiri finishes it with the RNC with 30 seconds left. Crazy.
  7. Caught pieces on History Channel marathon yesterday. Can pick it up at any point and get sucked in. Stayed up to watch the end of Points - as noted above, the recap during their baseball game of how they lived their lives and then the subsequent interviews where they finally ID the vets gets me every time. So well done.
  8. Not the best Marvel movie, but not the worst either. It was pretty good and I think introduced some things (Illuminati, Mutants, etc.) and tied some things off (I think).
  9. This pretty well sums up my thoughts on Oliveira right now. I’ve never rolled or been in an organized fight, so I could be way off, but to my eye he is so well rounded and transitions so smoothly and effortlessly I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone do that like him. And I can’t imagine what his opponents are thinking in there. There are undoubtedly better “specialists” but they way he pulls it all together is cool to see. As someone pointed out, he eats too many shots for my liking and that will cost him eventually. Really fun to watch and easy dude to cheer for.
  10. We were talking about this last night - does anyone have a successive run as good as that one? Oliveira is scary right now. Islam is sure to get the interim shot against him but who has he beat? I think he still needs to go thru Dariush to get that chance. Rose had to have lost a ton of fans last night. That performance was awful. Her “stare down” at the end of round 2(?) after doing nothing was cringy. Her post fight comments praising her own defense were out of touch. She needs to find a new camp. How do you market Esparza? She can’t be a co-main on a PPV just because she holds a title. Chandler. Wow. Maybe the best KO ever? Ferguson didn’t move for a LONG time and didn’t respond when people were talking to him when he finally did. Glad to see Tony was game, but I don’t need to see him fight anymore. Chandler has a future on TV as well when he wraps up fighting (my guess is if he gets a big money fight with Conor, he’ll call it a day). Shogun vs OSP - who thought that should be a PPV fight? If Rose vs Esparza wasn’t so bad we’d be talking about that one as the worst. First fight was fine. I love how everyone calls out Conor because that’s the only way they can get paid. Dana needs to do these guys better. When you have guys turning down title shots, you have a problem. What are the PPV buys going to be with Glover headlining in a few? They better stack that undercard (ie they better have Nate Diaz ready to go).
  11. Finally saw on HBO Max. Never read books and didn’t watch 1984 version so I came in “clean.” Overall I liked it. Probably biggest complaint was the mom whispering most of her lines so I couldn’t understand her. I even had to rewind and switch to subtitles for parts. Looking forward to the second part.
  12. Hostiles. Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Jonathan Majors, Rory Cochran, etc. give great performances. Really like this movie.
  13. I looked at that quickly and thought “what does Helen Hunt have to do with Russ, or Seattle?”
  14. Saw it last night. Somebody said it already but I liked Pattinson as Batman but didn’t like his Bruce Wayne. My guess is this was by design and (especially given his interactions with Alfred) that changes for the next installments as he grows. Action sequences were good. Is the Batman suit always been able to just walk through gunfire? I always thought Batman’s thing was coming out of the shadows, being elusive so no one gets a direct shot on him. This was Terminator Batman in that he was just coming straight ahead most times. Acting was good all around. Dano, Farrell, Wright, etc. Definitely can cut things out. Just clean up the time spent “lingering” on shots and you probably save 20 minutes. It was (and felt) very long. Very much a Se7en feel.
  15. Have a quick one day stop in Lexington. Any recs on must-sees? Eateries?
  16. Really liked it. Nelson killed it and Dorff was very good as the long-winded antagonist. Funny with two John Wick mentions upthread; my son said that. I didn’t mind atall. Curry was a stinking bullet magnet. Regarding Wyatt - I think he was cast/characterized this way intentionally. Showing Henry trying to raise his boy to be “different” in the changing world (and succeeding). Henry succeeding at shedding his old life and raising a son to thrive in a world that he didn’t feel like he belonged in any more.
