  1. Barr’s son works within the White House I believe. I doubt that is Barr’s motivation though. I suspect his primary motivation is he wants to protect the gop and maintain the redistribution of wealth to the upper class, which he likely believes is best for the US. Getting the country to move on from Mueller increases the odds that wealth redistribution continues.
  2. “But Hillary!” ”Both SiDeS!” ”The system is broken because it gave us Hillary!” lulz The mental gymnastics required to deflect from the current state of the White House is amazing. Hillary’s primary flaw was being the subject of a decades long campaign of bashing by Fox News, talking heads, radio hosts to the point that people just accept that “Hillary = corruption” without any evidence.
  3. Congress is getting all of the report. It’s just a matter of when. Dems aren’t in a hurry. The GOP either rips the bandaid off now or prolonges while showing the public they are hiding information, which only builds it up more and more. The only questions in my mind is how long it takes for Congress to get the full report and then how much of the report will be released to the public. Politics is a game
  4. Democrats aren’t in a hurry. They are taking it nice and slow until the public is in the mood. The end game isn’t until the 2020 election. They are moving forward on multiple fronts but don’t want it to be over too quickly, they want it to last, build up the suspense. And then Boom! We got Joe Biden griden from behind
  5. One statement that worries me from the NYT piece. ”Mr. Barr was also wary of departing from Justice Department practice not to disclose derogatory details in closing an investigation, according to two government officials familiar with Mr. Barr’s thinking.” Imagine taking a black marker and removing everything derogatory to trump, his campaign, or anyone around him.
  6. And I think this gets us back to what is “sensitive information” and what needs to be redacted from the public. It is probable that Barr’s standard is much different from the SC’s office. Barr, a political appointee who’s past actions have all been political theatre to minimize damage to POTUS, is undoubtably applying as stringent a standard as possible (infringement on reputational interests of peripheral third parties, etc.).
  7. There are rumors the Mueller report contains evidence of a secret meeting where trump admits to Lester Holt that he fired the director of the fbi because of the “russia thing.”
  8. The NYT and WaPo reporting isn’t surprising since we know Barr’s letters were nothing but political theatre. Any professional would be pissed if that happened to their work. However it should be noted that these are second hand sources.
  9. @PolishPatriotTM isn’t a politician
  10. ? And the tweet is still misleading propaganda.
  11. Is Nadler inconsistent now? Congress had the star report and they were debating about what to releases to the public.
  12. I remember when Hillary’s daughter-in-law was trying to setup a back channel of communication with Tehran
  13. This is a good break down of many issues with Barr’s letter that I’ve seen here and elsewhere. It is only 13 minutes long and helps put the letter in perspective. I recommend for anyone who thinks “the Mueller investigation found no evidence of collusion” - seemingly most in the media.
  14. You were talking about a coordinated attack on our democracy by a foreign power but now refer to trump campaign conspired with Russian government. This is the same political theatre game Barr is playing with the media/public with his publicly released letters. One requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt and is limited to “Russian government.” Are cutouts considered “Russian government btw?” Do you feel that there was not a coordinated attack on our democracy by a foreign power? Does the DNC hacking and Russian troll farm fit there? Flynn’s discussions on sanctions with Russians and his previous financial gains from them fit? Discussions on trading dirt on Hillary for sanction relief fit at trump tower? A crime does not need to have occurred for a foreign actor to influence US policy. We shouldn’t want foreign influence over our policy whether criminal or not. Ideally Mueller’s report evaluated this, and this is exactly what Barr would be inclined to redact.
  15. Why not both? It is all about foreign influence over our political system. We are all aware the existing indictments of the Russian troll farm and DNC hacking operation. Why ignore those? Those operations were conducted to influence the US election and therefore influence US policy. Meetings about Russian sanctions during the campaign, shifting GOP stance in Ukraine during the campaign would be consistent with those operations. Financial crimes leading to foreign influence over political actors (Manafort, NRA, Kushner?, etc) would also be consistent with those operations.
  16. Great point. Everyone knows that the Iran contra investigation was just one big Witch Hunt. No one had ever treated a president so unfairly. Barr was just a law-and-order, follow-the-process kind of fellow, who took a stand against that witch hunt. Anyone who would question Barr’s patriotism or be concerned that not a single person spent time in prison over Iran-contra, just doesn’t understand law-and-order like I do. This is why no one should question Barr’s ability to redact the Mueller report based on the unduly infringement on the reputational interests of peripheral third parties. Law and order. Follow the process. All good. Nothing to see.
  17. Trump Official accused of secretly working for US citizens
  18. No one is saying it is or isn’t fair, even considering DJT likely fired the previous AG over his handling of the Russian investigation. I noticed you didn’t address my other points, which taken together imo make clear that Barr is a political actor with potentially one goal, to minimize damage to DJT.
  19. Things are starting to make sense. DJT nominated him so that should be a red flag to start with. Barr instigates his nomination with an 18 page memo that pushes obstruction theory as far in favor of DJT as possible. Barr, outside the established SC process, provides to the public his obstruction finding under the cloak of a Mueller report summary. Barr decides to release select sentences from Mueller in same summary, which may or may not have been coordinated but was completely voluntary either way, triggering a big political win for DJT. Now Barr is picking nits for political gain with Nadler.
  20. You may be right, but why not just own the mistake rather than blaming Nadler? If Barr is willing to play politics with Congress over such an inconsequential mistake that he made, what other actions of his are purely political. Then considering all of Barr’s public releases thus far fit squarely into the realm of politics, congressional oversight starts to sound better and better.
  21. IDK if Barr walking back his summary was on purpose. Maybe though. Leaving it out of his first letter would have had the same effect I imagine. Walking it back later decreases trust, and then blaming it on Nadler makes Barr look like a political hack. That is unfortunate.
  22. This American life does an entertaining look into Jones’ early life. https://www.thisamericanlife.org/670/beware-the-jabberwock
  23. I think it is critical for folks to understand that Barr’s public release of information thus far is completely and totally political theatre. Some seem to think his actions thus far are above question because he is “following the process.” That isn’t the case. His public release of a few quotes from the report was his decision. Public release of his opinion on obstruction was his decision. He didn’t have to do that. What else is he doing/not doing behind the scenes that we don’t know about? What redactions will be based on Barr’s opinion? This is why we need oversight.
