  1. I'm talking more about that preachy Spanish motherfucker Brisket.
  2. When you two pissants complained about them not having Blue Moon, would they say "Mira lo que tenemos y compra!"
  3. I think that is absolutely true, and worthy of 1000 threads, but this is about voting. The Republicans want to decrease the vote to gain power. The Dems want to increase their power by making it easier to vote. Many people who generally support the Dem approach are less concerned about raw power than about the right to vote and giving people the opportunity to be good citizens. I don't see any evidence of any Republican having any ideals these days. There are lots of poor. Do you address the voting problem by maknig it easier to get IDs or do you address the voting problem by not requiring IDs? Either way, that issue has got very little to do with the underlying causes of poverty, or the fact that some of you may feel somewhat superior to people who don't express sufficient angst or knowledge of poverty on message boards.
  4. You misspelled The Mighty Treesnots
  5. In fairness, this is the argument I'm making, but I sympathize with the counter argument that nothing makes sense when half of the elected officials in this country are vile, cowardly scum. In a world where there were some decent Republicans, we could be sanguine that logic will rule the day. This argument works if one is willing to wait for some of that scum to be replaced. And again, sympathetic to the argument that this issue goes to the heart of whether they can be replaced.
  6. I'm going in two times a week for now. Initial impressions: 1) Leaving work at work. I like that. I got home late yesterday but I was done and didn't think about work. During COVID, the email was always open. 2) Only issue I have is the commute. About 25 mins each way/ugly Dallas highways. Initial conclusion: If they make coming in to the office flexible in terms of start and end times, I'm gold.
  7. That happens to have the most diversity. And that diversity is growing. I'd prefer to increase that diversity through popular elections.
  8. Exactly. The thing to be concerned about what be Uncritical Race Theory.
  9. I'm not trying to appease fascists. I'm trying to make sure the moderates who turned my districts blue over the last three years keep it blue.
  10. Everything is a poll tax unless you just think the vote and it magically registers. Online voting requires a computer, in person voting requires time and commute fees, etc.. Until we go completely biometric (retina scan, chip, fngerprint) photo ID is the most practical way to verify identity. The logic of the ID is just so strong that the issue should be making them free. It simply a more appealing argument to a broader swath of people than being against voter ID, and in this environment you need appealing arguments to keep and gain voters. That's why lazy shit like "Defund the Police" is such a cancer. Just a needless, emotionally driven whiff.
  11. The bill itself is bloated doesn't have focus (tax returns - who gives a fuck). If you are going to win, you need to fight smart, and you need to realize when you are leaving yourself open. The battle should be fought in the states. Bills like this are a waste of time. People generally want more ease of voting. Focus on those issues, continue to paint the Republicans as anti-democratic bastards, and win the states.
  12. Ultimately, my thoughts are that if you agree to some kind of ID, you pretty much can win the argument that you should eliminate ALL other forms of suppression and expand the ease of voting. To me it's a simple way of saying, okay, I'll satisfy your bullshit argument, now you have to give me everything I want -- weekend voting, national holiday on election day, no fault mail in voting, dropoffs, etc.
  13. ...and forget their voter registration cards and don't carry a photo ID. Plus, they can't get their ass motivated to vote.
  14. Spend all your time tilting at windmills if it makes you feel better. The vast majority of voters are never going to understand why ID requirements are that much of a hassle relative to the right to actually go into the booth and vote.
  15. That's how you negotiate and do politics.
  16. So are many things. The only real issue is accessibility of the required proof. I need to show an ID to pick up a race packet for a fun run. Agree that an ID is required as long as you make IDs easily accessible. Move on to the next fucking issue.
  17. If they don't give enough of a damn about voting to get an ID, fuck 'em.
