  1. Judas and the Black Messiah I kind of admired the fact that it had it's own unique pace and style but I didn't like any of the personal interactions with really any of the characters. Holy shit Hampton was only 21. Didn't know the backstory, which was interesting.
  2. Off the top of my head, force employers who engage in interstate commerce to report their job offers to the Department of Labor.
  3. Mind you don't suffocate your sister with that mask, Mordecai....
  4. Did not mention sopapillas with honey. Credibility rating of post: Low to zero.
  5. Can we all agree, just for fun, when we read patent on this board we will sound it out like the British "patent" in our heads?
  6. The train moved him there, not the station.
  7. No, belongs to Mr. Google. We actually rarely get down Marshall way and usually stay on the Inverness side of Tomales Bay, outside of nabbing food and drink in Pt. Reyes Station.
  8. West Marin County is my favorite part of the world but the global warming thing is hitting it pretty hard. All the west coast cities SF and north do "dumpy" pretty well. But the surrounding country is too nice for it to be a deal breaker.
  9. Senso (1954) Opens with an opera and is boring like an opera. Visconti's stuff is very pretty. There is some justice in the end, so that's good.
  10. I try to avoid calling the people who I disagree with politically Uncle Tom's and dirty hos. So as to Stefanik, I just think she's a real jerk.
  11. By the way, I'm all in (25 shares, $7 bucks a share) on MITC - 3D technology + beefy stem cells equal printed Israeli steaks. Will save the rain forests and leave the steers to be eaten by bears and mountain lions, their natural predators.
  12. I'll have to try that. I was (pre pandemic) a regular at Pho Bac, across the street.
  13. Had a chicken clay pot at LaVui on Maple today and it was absolutely fucking delicious (perfect chicken, quail eggs). The Salmon Carpacio was very nice too. I walked in, told the guy that I always ordered bun, and he needed to tell me something new to try, and this is what he recommended. Will be back.
  14. I thought I already posted about this. A slog, but really really good I thought. Grant was fucked up but what a life. I had recently finished the biography of James Baker, and it was interesting comparing Baker, a frat rat and smooth operator who seemed to glide through everything, and Grant, who could ride a horse and handle logistics but was seemed so inept at what came to Baker naturally. It was an interesting, of not completely logical, juxtaposition.
  15. The whole audio vs. hard copy is an interesting deal. I LOVED Post Office. But I forget the publisher of some of his books and I remember the binding and paper and font were very cool and that was part of the appeal. ***Black Sparrow Press. Martin acted as publisher, as well as editor of many projects, though also worked with freelance editors regularly such as Seamus Cooney. Barbara Martin designed Black Sparrow covers and title pages between the late 1960s and 2002. The interior typography and printing of the multicolor title pages were the work of different printers over the years including the Plantin Press, Noel Young, Graham Mackintosh, Mackintosh & Young (the men's joint operation for many years). Once Black Sparrow moved to offset printed interior pages, those pages and the binding was handle exclusively by Edwards Brothers, Inc. The hand-binding of limited was done in the early years by Emily Paine, and then for many decades by Earle Gray Bookbinding Company in California.
  16. I guess if any of you folks have a recommendation for a counterargument, that might save my soul.
  17. It's a very interesting issue. To me, you handle as agreed and get some legislation creating whatever the hell you want the next time you have a need for speed. Give everyone the incentives to get the job done in the future and then write in your contingencies. Maybe tax the pharmas a very high rate for initial profits and use those funds for distribution and production to poorer nations. Many different ways to skin this cat without fucking up the reward side of risk/reward.
  18. How about this for "Your podcast voice irks me."
