Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
horn4life replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
Funny, Ewers Looked nearly exactly like Maalik in the second half, but without the harsh criticism. Against a considerably lesser opponent than K-State. Thankfully Mitchell made a ridiculous catch on a poorly thrown ball. Even more importantly thankfully the defender does not turn his head to be in superior position on the under thrown ball. It was good to get the guy with a year and a half as the starter back in the fold. But some of the histrionics regarding Maalik, that could be equally applied to Ewers in this game are an interesting contrast. I will say the same thing I did last week, we did enough to win. But the reason we got fucked in the second half was our offense couldn't muster much offense. So we just left the defense out there after a couple plays on offense. Thankfully we got a 10 play drive that resulted in an 49 yard Field goal, and our Defense made a heroic goal line stand that gave us the ball back. That FG was our only score in the second half. I'm glad as hell Ewers is back in the fold, because the kid has the most experience of any QB we have. I also think that Maalik could have done just about at well in his 3rd game as a starter. So I guess the good news is as far as outcomes, our QB's are very similar. And at least now we have a second stringer who has actually taken some snaps as a starter. Something we haven't had in a long time. I realize Ewers is coming back off an injury, and hopefully he can get back to his Alabama form, but that was not this weekend. Still notch a win and move on. -
1) the twist at the end was not a football play. It was a move designed to injure a player disguised as a "football move'" 2) The very worst case scenario is Brooks needs surgery, and will come back to the team to rehab. Sucks for him financially, but there still may be an NFL light at the end of the tunnel for a hard working kid. The most interesting thing about Brooks is that he was the second stringer to start this season. But he took full advantage of the opportunity when Baxter got dinged up, and proved he deserved to carry the rock. That is what a few good years of recruiting, and player development will do for you. Next man up, now does not mean horrific drop off! God's speed in your recovery JB.

I suggest Taylor Swift have her "F*#$ Trump, Keep Freedom" 2024 Summer Tour ready to go!
-
Why does it surprise anyone anymore that people with stupid audiences, say a lot of stupid shit? While I know many of my Republican friends are not actually unintelligent, they have purposefully fooled themselves into believing that lies are true. Once you can be convinced that lies are true due to your desire to NOT know the truth, you can be convinced of anything. Taylor Swift should get heavily involved, and she should get young people heavily involved in elections. The biggest problem in our country is voter turnout in our country has been so skewed towards older (mostly white) people, that the political reality is there is not enough influence from younger voters. It is also true that the GOP wants to suppress urban votes, to give rural votes more weight. Young people if they voted could literally change this country. But... they don't. So I can understand why men in the GOP feel they are smarter than women, wiser than women, and rarely if ever elect women. Because they think women in general are simplistic and stupid, receptacles for sperm(bad girls) and factories for babies(good girls) to a large degree. The more people vote the more diluted the racist rural vote becomes. And Swifties fall into that category of more voters. More voter turnout is what the GOP does not want.

Flooring issue with contractor

Hell I will go to wherever and do the whole job, for only $27 a square foot! See... saved 10% right there! 🙄 -
I guarantee this system will allow for Cabeza size reduction to fit your oven! 😉

Flooring issue with contractor
horn4life replied to Baboontyme's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Why can't you simply line item, scratch the flooring? $6K for 215 square feet? That's bullshit! First off there are a ton of tile folks out there, but seems like more than half the products come from Daltile. As has been said Tile Guy is a good and knowledgable resource. I will also throw out Hard Wood Bargains for non-tile. They seem to have a grade or two of quality above for the same price. Floor and Decor is good too from my experience. I am simply taking the bid for the main room and looking at the sq foot cost, then I am asking why is it so much fucking more? Change order rip offs are often where most of the profit on a job is made, because... they rip off the homeowner. I am negotiating with the contractor, and getting the price down. Or I am pulling all the flooring from him. Flooring then floor trim are the last parts of the job. Get a written explanation as to why the price is so radically different for that 215 sq. feet. There are probably some sort of laws about gouging on change orders, but the only way you have leverage is just to pull the flooring and trim work. Normally on tile/hardwoods the contractor is only getting a 10% break (maybe 15%) on materials, so he is screwing you on labor. Hopefully you have a very detailed quote you can work off of. Tile and hardwoods are all about "the first row" where they start. Good floor laying guys will do a LOT of measuring, before snapping that first line to get started. Most rooms/homes do not have square walls. Math is crucial especially if you have tile at entry points into the home. In general you do not want smaller cut tiles at these entry points. Usually on tiling there is a primary wall and the longest run that make the starting point obvious. The other thing you need to make sure they do is level the floor. They may not need to float the whole thing, but I guarantee you there are some low spots that need a little filling. Anyhow sorry for your problems, but I am negotiating first. And the only real leverage you have is pulling that work from the contractor. (assuming you can do this with your contract?) Your concerns about lots not matching is legit! In fact it's best to make sure if you have a large area that you work out of multiple boxes at once unless ALL of the tile is from the same lot. Usually the warehouse guy is just loading up whatever is on the pallet. $6000 for 215 square feet? Who the fuck charges almost $30 a square foot? That's gouging plain and simple. You can also just start nit picking the shit out of him. Refusing to sign off on things going forward until every little fucking thing is fixed, look hard and you will find shit to annoy the contractor with. I am still trying to process $30 a square foot...? -
The Ag exemption in Texas is probably the single most abused tax break, because is helps rich folks not have to pay property taxes on their rural largesse. Of course the city folks have to pay extra school taxes to have them sent to the same areas the millionaires don't pay their fair share. You honestly can't blame millionaires for buying a couple pregnant cows to save $80,000 in taxes. It's a great deal! If you make more than 10% of your income off agriculture I have no problem with any Ag exemption. But when you are making a long term real estate play and simply avoiding paying property taxes for 20 years? That's bullshit. But hey, it's Texas, and kids are only important when inside the vaginal cavity!

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
horn4life replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
Wow some deep thought there... Where do I say wait until he's down 14 to pull him? I am more about protecting Quinn and assuming we will not fumble, and have a blocked kick deep in our own territory. i do expect numerous no calls from the Refs on holding and interference against us. If you think it was Maalik that nearly lost the game, you have to think he is playing every fucking position Which is not the case. But if Quinn gets hurt, and re-injuries are nearly always worse, then we have fucked ourselves but good. I guess I can't only look at the bad, without seeing some of the good. I also remember Ewers last year, as a point of reference. I also remember McCoy going down, and having our reciveres not able to handle accurate but too hot passes against 'Bama. But don't let that stop the simplistic analysis! 😉 -
Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
horn4life replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
If Quinn is day to day, it would be stupid to play him this weekend, IMHO. Simply as while Maalik has been inconsistent as hell, he's also had flashes of brilliance. If you NEED Ewers because the game is going ot shit then OK, but if not let him rest and get all the way back rather than potentially risk re-injury and having only one backup once again. If Ewers is really ready to go, I still start Maalik and introduce some QB runs/scrambles into the mix. Having a known quantity in Quinn behind him ready to go might allow Maalik to get more experience and reduce greatly his unforced errors. I mainly just want to have two healthy QB's with some experience. As crazy as that fucking sounds! -
Oh yeah! And I forgot the bonus of breaking off the bit in impact driver! It was a clusterfuck with huge ant mounds my first two setups. Best thing I did have was an old furniture blanket that allowed me a degree of comfort in the dirt, or protect me from molten asphalt. I did wire a cigarette lighter/ USB charger into the back bed of my truck, a month or so ago. It has an on/off switch, a battery voltage monitor, and two usb ports. Basically lets me run my bait buckets endlessly with the ability to recharge the aerators. It was a bit of a pain making everything bulletproof, but worth the extra effort to shield and seal all the wiring. It might be worth doing the same connection on the trailer, as now I have to use a double USB plug in charger to keep bait alive overnight if I rustle up some mullet. Guess I will explore underneath and see how to best attach and protect a new DC connection. Wonder if by some miracle I might have an extra fuse slot? That would be nice(but unlikely).

Maalik had a rough patch after an amazing patch. The off the back foot floater is something he has got to correct. That's on him. I like many of you wish we had more QB runs out of him. But I also understand the desire to not be down to only one QB and no backups. If Maalik goes down, then it's Arch and then Savion Red? I also understand how teams get overconfident when it comes easy, and the intensity wanes a bit, and then all of a sudden a wipeout is a dogfight. I think most teams know we are not going to run him unless Ewers is a real possibility to come in. So it takes a dimension away, one that I think could be very important in making those elusive first downs on sustained drives. Right now we either strike like lightning, or fizzle on offense. It seems to me that they have tried to get him to take a little bit of heat off the ball. Anyone else have that assessment? Anyhow the kid has been hot and cold. It will be interesting to see how he does this weekend. And for those lighting him up? Ewers wasn't exactly a world beater last year as you recall. Each game is more experience, and if he can just not toss that fucking floater...

Got Black Pumas at ACL early December, with reservations at Red Ash (if it opens back up by then). you will NOT be disappointed! Saw them at Mohawk right before they busted out a couple years ago. I liked them! I think I said something about them in the SXSW thread. Saw them at Hotel Vegas and enjoyed them a lot. A little throwback Clash -like. I also managed to win some Tickets to Gary Clark Jr for NYE on Sun Radio, so that should be fun!

Well I just completed the (almost) month in Port Aransas at IB MaGee. Surf Fishing was tough with the early cold fronts, but managed to get a few Redfish. We did a couple long weekends and then I went back to get the rig and do a little more fishing. Well I finally got into t few fish the evening before I had planned to leave ahead of that big cold front. The weather was just too good, and I decided to fish in the AM and just Iron man it home on Sunday night. The good news was I caught a limit of Redfish in the AM. I could have stayed another night but it was gonna be windy either way, and rainy the next AM. So got off water at 11:30, got back to trailer to unload 12:15, cleaned Fish at 1:00, washed truck and got gas 1:30, fiinshing all the make ready and I drive right up on the ferry at 3 PM! Unfortunately at about 4:00 just a few miles south of Refugio I have the exact same image as CoachTex. One of my tires had a flat, and it was a new one! My TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) kept going off but I kept hitting the ignore button. By the time I checked it I had like 5 lbs left in the tire. Then the fun begins! i am prepared ahd bought a hydraulic jack that popped the wheel right up and got it off. Then found out that I was about 1/2 inch short of getting the spare on. So I get the truck jack, Takes a few minutes to get it in place an up goes the rig a little higher. Great! Then I realize that from the angle of the truck jack I will not be able to get the jack down once the tire is on! Argh! So drop it again, replace jack and third times a charm. Screw on TPMS stem cap and off I go! Only 45 minutes with the BS. Then I notice the pressure system says 18 psi. So I go slow into Refugio, and it takes me three damn stops to find a working air compressor. With a trailer and exhausted it was more than frustrating. Woke up at 5:45 to fish and rolled into Austin at 8:45. This little dilemma is making me either put a cigarette lighter outlet by one set of the tires where the cord will reach to the other side. Or perhaps buy one of those cordless drill looking inflators. AND I will check the pressure on my spare every trip from now on. Good news is tire had discount certificate and they put the new tire on in about 5 minutes. Now I am back and doing some maintenance, and I noticed my 30 amp outlet looks like there was a little arcing. Apparently the screw tight threads on the outlet are fubar, so likely the connection was not solid at some point. Likely when I was messing with all the connections after getting the power going. So I need to replace that. Going to clean the shit out of her, get my maintenance done a nd reorganize the storage area. I don't use the trailer near enough, but these months of on and off staying in Port A alone have been worth it. Otherwise I would not have this fish pic!

Game Week Thread Week 9, 2023: Kansas State @ Texas
horn4life replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
Well I am torn in my assessment, but the bottom line is we looked unbeatable, then we shit the bed, then we rallied and won a game that I think we would have lost last year. I'm still pissed about the tackle pass interference that was not called that allowed K-State an opportunity that never should have existed to score their late first score. Direct result of shit Big 12 officiating. But damn we give up 14 points in my drive to meet by buddy for a drink! The bottom line is we had so many different folks step up in different ways it was truly a team victory. And most importantly it showed the mental toughness needed to win these sorts of games. Championship teams find a way to win, and while this team has not won a championship of any kind in years, the took the necessary step today to make that goal again a reality. It would have been easy to have lost confidence and let K-State carry their momentum to victory. Certainly we were got a break on the decision not to kick a field goal. But that decision was based on the fact that they simply could not run the ball on our D. So it was a gamble that this was the one and best chance for K-State to win the game. Anyhow kudos to everyone. Murphy looked fantastic at first, then made some bad mistakes, that he would not make if he like Ewers had a full season under his belt. Defense won this game because it did what it had to when it needed to. But if we don't get fucked by the Refs we go into half at 20 or 24 to nada. I just wish once in my fucking life we would actually come out ahead on the referee game... (but I know that's never going to happen, never, ever, ever...) Great win. Lots to criticize (or nit pick) but the bottom line is we only have one loss and are on track to perhaps for the first time in a very long time have the sort of season we all hope for every single year. Lets hope that this is a game where the lessons are taken to heart, and we improve once again and raise the bar! -
Game Week Thread Week 9, 2023: Kansas State @ Texas
horn4life replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
The bottom line is that I believe this team is at a point where the second stringers can indeed come in and play and adequately cover the spot up. No certainty, but that's why we have been recruiting so hard. This is really a test of whether we have indeed passed into a fully developed team, or are still waiting until next season. Kansas State is a good team, that is not going to be a pushover. This is the sort of game quite simply that will define this season. I am hoping that we can put together a complete game with the team that we have, period. This is a game when you find out whether or not you have truly raised the bar for the team. Championship teams find a way to win. I think that this team is going to scratch and claw and end up proving to themselves that have indeed raised the bar. If not I will be one head shaking drunk mother fucker by 4 o'clock... -

Reminds me of these lines in"a Time to Kill." The GOP today is so screwed up because of one primary reason, the ability to completely toss out intellectual honesty! Trump was the greatest thing to ever happen for the racists in our country.

Hell the bathrooms were unbelievable! They remind me of the BIP bathrooms at ACL where you could actually feel cold air for a few minutes to cool down. We got three long weekends in. Or more accurately my wife got two, and I got three! Love leaving the Travel Trailer at IB MaGee for the month where only tides and weather determine if we are in Port A or Austin. We got down on the 5th, and managed 3 straight days of early La Playa. It was funny because the hostess told the other waiting patrons hoping to get in for the first seating that they needed to be more like us, as it was our 3rd day in a row. Unfortunately I missed out on Flounder the first weekend at the Jetty as my buddy caught three a couple yards to my right, and the guy a couple yards to the left caught 4, and me... a big zero. But the next weekend caught two nice slot reds one day, and put buddy's kid onto another hanging on the beach with us. This last weekend I was solo. We raced out prior to the bad weather the week before and I was regretting not just taking an hour or so and getting the trailer ready to pull home. Which left me seeing today's cold front looming and supposedly sketchy weather this last weekend. Instead met my BIL on Thursday afternoon and we ate at Virginia's and then drifted over to see Selfie at Shorty's. We got a good laugh at their "Legalize it" song, and their "Vamanos a La Playa, Let's go to the Beach" as well. Fishing was sketchy in the surf even when the water looked promising, so I tried something new and hit up the Jetty nubs sticking out from the beach down at the old fish pass. It's dangerous fishing because of the big drops and uneven footing, but the risk was worth the reward. In about an hour I picked up a single trout and red slot fish. I was supposed to go home Sunday morning, but the last warm day in Port A, lured me to fish the AM before heading home. I woke up at 5:45 and got a pint of large shrimp at Deep Sea Headquarters. Apparently the right side of the Jetty is preferable, and that left me with the much more precarious left side at the end. After an early slow start I ended up with a limit of redfish ranging from 24-27-1/2 inches. Besides having to change a tire on the trailer (new ones dammit) I got home about 8:45 that night. But it was worth it to catch the limit and enjoy what might be my last Port A fishing day this Year. My first limit in a while-
-
Well Pot A weather did not cooperate as much for me this year with the early and late cold fronts, But I did have a good day Sunday morning at the Fish Pass Jetty in Mustang Island State part. I have usually fished the surf in the higher numbers but had never fished the little jettys of the closed in Fish Pass. Dangerous as all hell were I found my perch, and nearly impossible to land a red without help. As where I was standing the drop to the water was about 10 feet. But it was worth it, caught a nice limit of Reds which I haven''t done for years. Thanks to the folks around me who helped me land the fish. Anyhow these 24, 26, 27 inch slots, made my trip!

Times like there are why I was so disappointed in our Wyoming game where we should have run up the first half score to get Maalik some live game snaps. I think the kid has shown he has talent, and the real question now is how will he handle the pressure? Both emotionally and from the defense. I also wonder if we hamstring him by conservative and predictable play calling. I understand some conservatism, but this offense doesn't work if you make too many conservative calls. I am rooting like crazy for the kid, because I am always rooting for any kid that comes in under a microscope of pressure. These are the opportunities that every backup dreams of, so it's up to Maalik to take advantage and plant his own flag. Hell I hope the kid does so well it makes getting Ewers healthy much less of an issue. Hope he can take advantage of the opportunity in front of him and become "a Longhorn Legend!"
