  1. While I am an old mofo, I think probably the most important question for ya'll younger folks is there an SEC equivalent for "raider Rash?" Maybe Vandy Vage? or Old Miss Drips? or Gator Rash? Bulldog Blister Balls? Louisiana Swamp Crotch? Tennessee Tomato Testes? Tiger Scratch? (LSU gets two mentions, because Low SAT University.) I bet we could get one of those names into Wikipedia...
  2. Anyone have any familiarity with RV parks in Port O'Conner? Thinking of going down there with a buddy to fish and I refuse to spend another night in the grossly overpriced and sort of disgusting Inn at Clarks, so I am considering bringing my trailer down there instead. SO any suggestions would be appreciated. Also are there any daily boat slip rentals on Port O'conner? I have not been down there in nearly 4 years, but it appears that some civilization has crept in with some new restaurants. Before if we caught fish and got them cleaned every place was closed by 9 pm during the week.
  3. I honestly do not fucking understand cruises. I hate fucking waiting in line, except for maybe at Continental Club. The idea of lining up to get off and on the boat, and for whatever else is cool, just kills it for me. To me it seems like a floating motel with assorted herds of drunk folks who like to stand in lines. So I'm out. ** The one exception might be a smaller vessel on a river. My folks did a smaller ship up the Nile, and they did really enjoy it.
  4. Easy answer for 2024: The College Football Playoff National Championship will be Monday, January 8, 2024, at NRG in Houston.
  5. Gaido's as has been said if probably the #1 option. Though I will say that our meal at Waterman's for a large group was solid and it was cool to see some folks bringing in some fish to the dock below the restaurant. Plus it's out on the bay side of Pirates beach neat the golf course, if it's close to where you are staying. Super easy in and out for parking for the group as well. I have also heard (second hand) that the Landry's in Galveston is actually solid as it's the "flagship" for Fertitta.
  6. So you are David Clyde? If so I saw you pitch, with some nasty, nasty stuff as a high school flame thrower. Also sorry the Rangers fucked you! But back to the subject at hand. You have to give a tip of the hat to Stanford for not having to chew into the bullpen last night with Quinn Matthews herculean effort in tossing a complete game win. Like I have so often said. Sometimes the other guys are pretty damn good too and make some plays. Should be a good game tonight, if nothing else you will definitely be looking at the smartest group of players stepping onto the field the rest of the tournament. We simply need to be more patient at the plate, IMHO. Should be a great game. Hope I am happy drunk and not mad drunk...
  7. I tape Fox News Sunday every week and watch it religiously, because it will save me time talking to most Republicans already knowing what they were told to think this week. But it is always interesting to see how well Fox balances endless non-fact based suppositions, with actual fact based reporting. You know Trump was indicted for factually doing a lot of stuff that is illegal. There is also an accusatory memo on Hunter Biden. SEE!!!! LOOK!!!! Does it matter if the negative coverage is accurate? Factual? Dishonest? Silly you, if you actually thought I was asking a question! Negative suppositions are given equal or greater weight than actual factual negatives of Republicans. And that my friends is not a news network, it is a self serving propaganda media outlet, designed for those that do not know and do not want to know factual information. They want their non-fact based opinions confirmed with lies. And that is the secret code Fox has broken, they found the rubes and the rubes are Republicans.
  8. I grew up in West Houston and the Jamaica/Pirates/West Beach was where we would meet up. We went down the right after Memorial day and the water was indeed as nice as I have seen it, perhaps ever in Galveston. I don't know when they stopped the driving on the beach in Pirates but it was nice to be able to walk onto the beach and not have any worries about traffic. I could see easily how had I stayed in Houston getting a place in Galveston could have been a priority. But for me living in Austin, driving all the way through Houston to arrive at the place where everyone in Houston goes to the beach, is not worth it for me. But I did have a good time while I was there. I would probably like it a lot more in the off season, but that is every beach in all honesty. My nephew just graduated UT Galveston and is a newly minted Doctor, and I could definitely see potentially living in Galveston (again because I like the off season.). Im sure if I went down with any consistency I would end up running into quite a few folks from my high school years down there.
  9. And to think Pompeo lost all that weight for nothing. Christie has a singular mission this go round, save his party from Donald Trump. It's a Kamikaze mission, but it's one he has thick enough skin to endure. Trump will loft fat jokes from his own rolls of folds. But Christie is going to right at what a scumbag this President is. Not sure Trump won't ultimately be the nominee, but if he is I think Christie will erode Trump's general election support. I am also assuming that some very serious obstruction charges are coming Trump's way that will mute general election support as well. Both of which are good for Democracy. The other thing I think Christie may also do is point a glaring light at Jared Kushner's corrupt dealings with the murderer Saudi Prince, while refusing to turn over communications while he was a representative of our government. Which also points out to even the dumbest republican, that there is something a lot lot bigger than Hunter Biden's corrupt dealings. Hunter we might want to note was not a representative of the United States Government in the execution of his corrupt actions. Jared Kushener was. I think this singular thing may be the most helpful to our democracy, even as Fox News avoids any actual news reporting and focuses on the "Biden Crime Family." What a very strange world we live in.
  10. Well it was indeed a shotgun wedding, and the announcement was that they were having a baby! So when you combine PGA and LIV... I have some baby name ideas! PILVAG and VAGPIL immediately come to mind...
  11. I think it's funny as shit. As the PGA was simply greedy, and that opened the door for LIV to come in and help rehab, the murderer Saudi Prince's reputation. So Phil Mickelson was demonized like a mofo, and in the end the PGA took the money, just like Phil. Whores gonna whore you know. Does anyone here think they purses in the PGA would have gotten larger if Phil had only talked nicer while a leader on the PGA? The changes were a direct reaction to new tour buying off top talent in a way they could do forever to some degree. But Tiger Woods has got be be kicking himself in the ass... What was his deal $700-800 million? So LIV is the financier and the PGA is now a hired hand that runs the Tournaments. PGA has more seats on the board (but whores gonna whore) so who knows how long that will last in reality.
  12. If you look closely it looks like the driver literally has his head bent down in the palm of his hand. I would likely also be crying in rage at my stupidity.
  13. And Mike Pence files his paperwork. I believe Pence is honestly and truly the most non-principled principled man I have ever seen.
  14. glad you got out troph! Gotta watch those full moon tides! And I think flattiefattie is looking for a used pull vechicle...
  15. Boys if you are not back slapping happy with the roster of TERRY'S team, then you just cannot be made to be happy. What I would be very curious to know is what the coaches and players have known about Hunter and Mitchell during the portal recruiting period. I would also like to know how Terry's "family" style of recruiting played in the heads of the two returning players? One of my concerns about Terry's recruiting style was how well it would hold up in the changed landscape of the transfer portal. It's still a concern, but not as much of a concern. I also wonder what Beard may have said to the incoming freshmen who decided not to come, and if that differed what what Terry told them? Basically I would love to know the true behind the scenes machinations, and what factors were or were not important to the players on the current roster. Do not get me wrong, I think that Terry's style up until the portal is exactly the recruiting style I would want for my kid. As I think parents and players know the guy truly cares about the kids in his care. And I think the "in his care" part is genuine, and something a lot of coaches do not really care about beyond the court. But like I said out the outset of this recruiting adventure, I felt Terry started off with a disadvantage being the interim coach label for nearly all of the recruiting season. I also knew that good or bad, we were going to find our pretty damn fast whether Terry was going to be able to get the kids he needed to be tournament competitive in the coming season. Then heap on the fact that 4 of the players who were presumed to be on the roster all were looking at leaving the program made recruiting even more complicated for Terry. Like I said I wish I knew the behind the scenes story, but you have to love the team Terry has put together. I can't help but think that as the head coach with a real contract, and a solid season next year, recruiting could be even better next year. Especially if this team can make another run in the NCAA's! To quote an old Austin band Timbuk 3, "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!" In fact I think "I gotta wear shades" would be a good slogan for this year's team!
  16. I guess it's awesome that McCarthy was able to deliver 2/3 of his caucus under threat of destruction of the US economy. How the fuck do you negotiate with somebody who can't fucking deliver the votes he says he has? 132 yes votes from the GOP for ransom, and of course adult Dems getting the children of the GOP across the line... Literally the GOP is a bunch of fucking children. It's ridiculous.
  17. I don't completely disagree. Because the money has to come from somewhere. How many times in a lifetime do you think the average $60K a year worker goes to an airport? How many times do millionaires? The masses pay taxes. The rich, have so many different avenues to reduce taxation that the reality is that they should pay more. Yet that $60K earners taxes support something they don't use. it's a taxpayre freebee this infrastructure stuff. The bottom line is the curve of debt as well as a further concentration of wealth into fewer and fewer hand started with the Reagan tax cuts and has continued. You need look no further than the closing of rural hospitals and the overall shittiness of our infrastructure to know that somebody isn't paying their share like they did in the 1950's. The bottom line is that if at any time Republicans had created the jobs and tax revenue promised by their tax cuts, we would be in debt but not remotely where we are now. The bottom line is more jobs are created in Democratic Presidential terms, and less deficit spending with their signatures. It's just math, the kind that the GOP does not understand. IF there were not a million ways for the wealthy to avoid taxation it wouldn't be necessary to een think about the SS cap.
  18. For me that would mean a Crown and Anchor nap... Or just roll on into the night partying.
  19. Just to give you a visual of how UNREPRESENTATIVE GOP congressional districts are, take a quick look at Purity crusader Chip Roy. A fucking rock(R) could win in a district (like all Texas districts) designed to give rural racists a much greater say than is reality. Hopefully young people will keep voting and we can get representative government at least to some degree again. And I will be JUST as critical of Dems if they do this sort of shit. But the Dems are not elevating Bomb throwers in these sorts of districts like the GOP does.
  20. Because they wanted the disingenuous Republicans to vote for the bill THEY held the country hostage for. Otherwise there is not a majority of Republicans who would vote for it. Think about that for a second. The hostage taker negotiates a ransom, then won't fucking take the negotiated deal! Without the children of the hostage help them carry off the ransom. Fucking crazy.
  21. No. The problem is the boats are now getting damaged by the larger wakes. I will see if I can find the video, but super sharp peaky 3 foot waves knocking the shit out of Clines Landing (not sure about Baytree) they actually had a guy from the Port Authority explain there may be some sort of submerged wave reducers they can install, that sounded like a possibility. The HOA voted on not building out lifts at least at this point. I think their Storm insurance doubling had something to do with the desire not to incur that additional expense. And yes Port A is changing so fast it's mind blowing. I guess the main impact of the Lake Padre development will be more sustained development where land is available. Port A is going the way of Austin. You still have some of the vibe, but becoming unrecognizable.
  22. These sort of battles do show the extremes of both parties pretty clearly. Both are harmful to compromise, because they believe their "purity" is more important than actually getting shit done. The Big Difference? The GOP is the party of NO! And because of this they allow their extreme members to take control of the party BECAUSE of their willingness to never compromise. Indeed that's why you cannot negotiate with Republicans, because they simply always have to renegotiate with the extreme of their party, who KNOWS the power of simply saying NO! in the GOP. The GOP elevates the extremist bomb throwers, because the Republicans do not have any principles beyond personal power. Personal power, not representing the people is now the only principle the GOP represents. There is no other. This twisted desire for personal power, above serving the country is what allows the extreme of the GOP to force Kevin McCarthy and our country into dangerous waters. Because Kevin's personal power as leader is more important than actually being able to lead! How fucked up is that? So here we are. The Republicans that ALWAYS add to the deficit at a faster pace than their Democratic counterpart are howling at the moon in protest... for paying the bills they charged at the tax cut trough. Only destruction can please a large portion of the GOP. And how the fuck do you negotiate anything when the other side EMPOWERS the most extreme members of their party rather than mute them? Hilariously the very gerrymandering the GOP has used to lock in seats, is what now prevents them from legislating. Because the GOP elevates it's crazies, and the Dams... not so much.
