  1. I think sort of the whole point is that there is no perfect way to handle this shit. The only certainty I think everyone has is that this scumbag should not be a teacher now or in the future. What mullet has to do is weigh the positive that said scumbag is no longer at his daughter's school, against what sort of additional levels of effort and potential bullying for his daughter might occur if he continues to press the issue? Or at least that's how I see it. It's like all parenting. You do the best you can, and pray you are making the right decisions.
  2. Total misread. I assume that every son or daughter is "Darling" because we all hold them so dear to us. Not as any aspersion towards your daughter. I also mention your "perception" as I was under the impression that you were concerned about the potential negatives that could be directed towards her to provide cover for the scumbag teacher. Mainly I assume in assorted types of bullying, that you indicate you think could be more intense in a smaller community. Maybe I misread your concerns here. Don't know why you leapt to such a bizarre conclusion as "she was asking for it?" When all I was trying to do was state that I thought the best way to prevent this guy from teaching anymore is through the school. In large part because is would protect your Darling Daughter. Again DD meant not as a sign of perfection or flawlessness, but of her intrinsic value as a young person worthy of protection.
  3. What's interesting to me is how successfully the lies are sold to Republicans. You can honestly bring up, "Hunter Biden's Laptop" and hear a stream of assertions. Ask them about the $2 Billion jared Kushner got from Saudi Arabia, and why has he kept secret his communications while representing the American people with Saudi Arabia... and the "I haven't heard about that/know about that/ or i'm not sure that's true" response. The GOP is very, very good a lies. I have no doubt that Hunter Biden has done some shady shit. But he sure as fuck did not get $2 billion from a Saudi Prince murderer days after leaving the Whitehouse. Not to mention the refusal to allow any light onto Jared's communications. The scale is monumental in Jared's case and a direct result of using your influence as a government official to secure $2 billion. As a bonus Trump gets LIV golf and helping gaslight a dismemberment murder is apparently good personal profit from government work. I am happy as fuck to talk about Hunter Biden having done some shady shit. But fuck Jared's actions aren't just shady, they are like a solar eclipse in corruption. But... "I haven't heard about that/know about that/ or i'm not sure that's true" is all you can get on an issue magnitudes larger than "Hunter Biden's Laptop." The sheep are so very, very easily fed.
  4. The bottom line is that the teacher should not be a teacher, IMHO. Saying "you're hot" to a 12 year old is only OK if you also are about 12 years old. As far as criminality, maybe, maybe not. But if "you're hot" isn't criminal (which alone likely isn't) having some sort of repercussion is what I think everyone here would prefer. Right now the school district has the greatest ability to place a true black mark on this teachers record. That is specifically why I suggested pressing the shit out of the school. Perhaps even threatening suit to push them in the right direction. It's a direction honestly that the district does not want to go because of expense and publicity, so you need to be the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Getting the police involved is a separate issue, and in a small town any presumption of anonymity after pressing the police to investigate would be foolish. And that brings in potential negatives for 12 y.o. darling daughter according to OP's perception. So there are both positives and negatives here. About the most you can expect from the police is a good scare at best unless there is a lot more evidence. But how does anyone know if there is not more evidence? Catch 22. And my faith in the police of solving or prosecuting anything difficult is about a 3.5 on a 10 point scale. And that may be way too high. I'll be interested to see if pressure on the school district can get the black mark we all want on this guys record. Right now that's the only way I see anything close to the outcome to prevent future situations like this or worse in the future.
  5. HaHa that was a bookend for me. I remember when I first saw the band setting up and Club Foot and thought "oh no, another bunch of fucking screamers" Then Billy Idol sang a couple and I was hooked. ACL was funny because the had to restart the song a couple times to get on pitch. But I feel his pain. I used to be able to hit every note of his in the early 80's, now I can hit about as many of those old highs as Billy can himself. But year especially hard to be a leather clad punk in the Texas heat, but put on a decent show for an old guy. Still better to see Billy shirtless than Iggy!
  6. I really wish Houstong would have picked up Duece Vaughn. Simply as a more positive representative of #2, than the historical Texans performance...
  7. Uhh... they are looking up answers to the shit they did not read, and finding calculations for the shit they do not know. In other words cheating like crazy, because they can and.... wait for it... "everyone does it Dad!" The one thing I understand is that kids "need" phones the older and more active they get. That phone is also the gateway to the worst exposure to shit you would like them to avoid. One truly double edged sword. But fight it was long as you can, and track the fuck out of their activity, and for heaven's sake keep it out of their bedroom at night. They can be great tools, but they are not being used as calculators on any fucking test. I honestly think the phones should all have to be locked up in lockers, but I would also allow some "communication breaks" to let kids communicate with their parents. For a single parent a phone is a necessity early IMHO. But back to scumbag coach. First off 12 years old is the edge of sexual awakening, and the last thing any daughter is gonna discuss with Dad is anything regarding sex. I coached multiple girls soccer teams for about a decade, and if the coach is not actively avoiding individual contact with any of the players outside of practice something is wrong. If only the incredibly poor judgement of the coach. What's going to happen here is that your pressing to have the coach's name included in the banned educators is a the ONLY way you are not reporting this to the police. The district does not want to litigate the matter, and the "resignation" leaves the door open to the reasons for the departure. District would rather simply appease you and put this behind them. Sort of like the Catholic church... Unfortunately. To avoid litigation. I would likely point out that unless you see the teaches name on the banned list you are also inclined to sue the school district while also getting the police involved. Now the problem for you is the "small town" aspects of this shit, in that connections and tribal nature are usually horrifically ingrained in the community, and said scumbag coach does have some folks firmly in his court. So there is plenty of opportunity still for this thing to blow back on your daughter, do not disregard this possibility! Especially if things seem ambiguous in the firing and the scumbag and his allies try to mount a campaign to rehabilitate his name. Only way to do that is likely to fuck over your daughter somehow to hurt her credibility. So your situation is different perhaps because of the small town nature. So my having no ambiguity from where my daughter could potentially be attacked might be my goal now. I think my line of questioning to the administration (beyond the principal) is can you insure he will not be teaching again? If the answer is not yes, then you need to go to the police. Tell them as much, and say it's concerning that the actions of the administration is simply to remove him from one school (parish) and allow him to move on to another school (parish). District is going to go the path of least resistance legally, you have to be the resistance to steer the outcome, IMHO.
  8. Dirty's was great, but Mad Dog and Beans was honestly something different that was a cut above. I used to get the Austin's favorite a burger on whole wheat, with sprouts and guac. Fucking fantastic, and their thick cut fries were the bomb. But more importantly there was no better seat for a male in all of Austin in springtime to view the beautiful co-eds. I would bury Dirty's 100 times, to be able to go back and sit down on a beautiful spring day like today and have one more Austin's Favorite in a good seat with a view...
  9. odd ball answer is try the VFW. But you would likely be Happy at StingRays on beach street as they are the "sports bar" in town. Decent food and multiple screens if you want the sports bar vibe. Blue Water Cowboy has a few screens, but my second choice might be Lelo's next to La Playa. I'm sure they would put have the game on and solid drinks and food.
  10. 1) Don't let them use a pacifier constantly. It becomes too much of a crutch and removing the crutch is tougher than you think! 2) Put off buying them a phone until as late as you can. They will hate you for this, but it's the smart/right thing to do. 3) Get her involved in youth sports! Girls who play youth sports generally have higher self esteem, and more importantly have better body image. Simply as playing sports she will see girls of different sizes and shapes, that help avoid believing the "perfect" bodies they see on their phones is reality. 4) Read, read, read and then read some more to them when they are little. This simple act will help carry them educationally and allow them explore the world better than any single thing you can do. 5) The single biggest gift you can give your daughter is the gift of your time. (see#3) So many parents are willing to spend any amount of money on their kids and their activities, but inevitably what their children crave is more of their time. In other words money is NOT a substitute for your time and affection! 6) Finally- tell her, "All guys are lying scumbags with sores on their weiners! And you are going to need a flashlight!" With that reading foundation, and a healthy fear of STD's you will likely be able to push back their sexual awakening to some degree. As well as let them understand they some guys will say anything to get into their pants. I have personally changed to path of several kids lives with this simple humorous question and answer. "Do you know what the key to your future is? Pause a second and then pound the table and say, "Condoms, condoms, condoms!" A friends' son was named in a paternity suit, and the son told his father, "I am not the father! I listened to horn4life!" Humor is a great way to tell kids truth about sex in a way that sticks in their brains, but opens the door to thinking about uncomfortable subjects more openly. Lastly, good luck! And enjoy the ride, knowing it's not always going to be fun and she is gonna be a crazy bitch as a teenager in all likelihood. But that will pass... just stay the course. Also realize you are not perfect and will make mistakes, you hope they are little mistakes.
  11. IF I lived in San Antonio I would be down at the coast every other weekend. The one thing that is really starting to push in San Antonio that reminds me of Houston is the infill is starting to happen. SA is like Houston 20 years ago. Gone out and out and out with the suburbs to now New Braunfels is the edge of SA commuting traffic. I don't think there is as much loose money in SA as in Houston so it may take a little longer, but redevelopment downtown is already starting to rage. I was born and raised in Houston, and wife in SA before a teenage Austin move. I think if I was forced to move to another big city San Antonio would be top of my list. I would find the place I liked with the best Margaritas a reasonable distance from my house and probably do a lot of what we do now, at new and different dining establishments. But if I were moving there now I would be trying to get into South Alamo Heights if I had kids, or maybe south of that with the idea of buying something that would need a remodel. Or ability to add on another unit in the best case scenario, as I think it's only going to get hotter in R.E. closer in as the burbs have gone out about as far as they can.
  12. McCarthy really, really, really, needed this scumbags vote or he would not today be Speaker. That's a pretty fucking sad commentary on what the GOP elected congressional representatives have devolved into.
  13. Biggest difference between Houston and SA is that in Houston you have to learn to drive fast if you are going to be in the inside lane on the freeway. In SA... not so much. But SA does have Puffy Tacos!
  14. I am excited about J.Witt having one hell of a season and hopefully getting a chance to make a check in the NFL. Mainly I am praying that the young man can remain healthy for an entire season. I think the little bit of weight loss helps his speed a hair, and you can never fault the kid in his tenacity in getting those yards after catch. Really, really hoping that he can actually have a fantastic time and simply enjoy his last season at UT. Instead of worrying about rehab and recovery as has been a key part of his his focus most seasons. Rooting for you!!!
  15. I mainly picked Mi Mexico because of the solid reviews Taqueria Mi Mexico because there gas station next to it is closed and is a perfect place for me to pull off and hop right back on the road when pulling our Travel Trailer. Still jonesing for those homemade tortillas. Actually this taco talk this reminds me of a conversation I had with a DPS trooper I became friendly with after Harvey. I was helping a buddy with severe back issues, let contractors into his place to give repair bids on the Harvey flood damage. I was about the only guy fishing on the beach in Port A, and twice the trooper came up and I happened to hook up was he drove up. We became friendly and he told me a funny story about he and his wife's retirement plans. His plan was to tape a tortilla onto their truck's antenna and drive north. When somebody stopped him and asked what that thing was taped to his antenna, they would stop, put down roots and open a taco shack! Pretty funny and nice guy, hope he is doing well.

    Austin FC

Ring basically got beat out, and is playing off the bench for the most part is my understanding. It's going to be interesting to see the support if we can't start putting some W's on the board. Hell FC tickets have arguably been the most sought after tickets in the city of late. Funny how winning does that! Conversely will support wane if we continue this level of play? Austin is definitely a soccer town and I have a feeling the seats will mostly just convert to folks who want to go, as rich and corporate seat folks start coming late, or skipping the games entirely. As I think there is still plenty of demand. Hope we can right the ship, but damn this shit reminds me of my years playing with Austin United oh so long ago. Back when it was really important that we eat at Chuy's after games to make sure they would stay in business! About the only games we won were 1-0. As we simply had to pitch a shutout to try and turn our anemic offense into a victory. In a weird way as bad a Druissi being hurt is, he hasn't honestly been pulling his weight. Maybe he's been tweaked in the groin this whole time, but we need to find somebody, anybody who can place the ball on frame with a greater degree of consistency. Right now we seem to be more playing for ties more than victories.
  17. I think there is also an asterisk next to Terry's name in that scenario, because it was "Beard's team." A fair argument to be certain. That's why I think RGBIII is so concerned about losing Holland, as it's a loss no matter how you paint it or justify it. Retaining Holland was important perceptually, and perception is reality in recruiting. Terry needs to win. Without wins it does not matter what situation he was hired in, nor how far we went in this years tournament. He needs to win with HIS guys. He's gonna have that asterisk in a lot of fans and players minds until he wins at Texas with his own crew. I don't think you can really compare Musselman and Terry in that Terry isn't remotely the self-promoter that Musselman is. But I think Terry is a team builder. Now it's up to him to get the players he needs to win, whether one and dones, or in the portal. It's also a new landscape that may not be a conducive to the "family/team" recruiting style I sense he would prefer. Bottom line he needs to get another quality player in the fold to have the sort of depth he's gonna need to be able to get close to last years performance. And I think for a lot of folks he's gonna need to get close to remove that asterisk from their mind.
  18. Incredibly sad news to hear. I sort of view Lance Blanks as the "Godfather" of Texas basketball. He was exactly the sort of human being you felt proud to be associated with as an alumni of The University of Texas. Prayers to his family and those close that truly feel the loss.
  19. I think you could potentially beat Cruz. If I were running a PAC I think I could do a pretty decent ad showing Trump calling his wife ugly, cut to sniveling coward, cut to Trump dick sucking. Along with a quick cutaway of his trip to Cancun during the freeze out, and close with something like "a man committed to sort of sometimes acting brave." A funny way to say coward. Or maybe just say... What is the opposite of brave? That's Ted Cruz!
  20. I honestly do not know what Holland's deal is/was. If Terry got beat out for not outright lying to a kid about playing time then I can't fault Terry. Holland didn't decommit until we started making a little headway in the portal. The problem is you are ultimately dealing with kids. Very talented kids, but still kids. And Kids are simply easily influenced. I remember losing my best player on the select soccer team I coached. I had recently repositioned her to an attacking mid to give her more touches, and a chance to greater influence play. She viewed it as a demotion and was uncomfortable with the switch., The coaches from that lured her away promised her a return to her prior position on the left wing. Of course funny thing was, they eventually learned what I already knew, and they ended up putting her in the same position I was trying to switch her into. Because I was right all along, and they simply lied to her to hurt my team and help theirs. I understood why they did what they did, but I was never ever going to be a coach who was going to lie to a kid to keep them in the fold. Nor put players in positions that were not best for my team. In other words you cannot let the inmates run the prison. So if a kid WANTS to believe the lies there is not much an honest coach can do. Again not sure what Holland's needs, desires, promises were or were not. I just do know that there are a LOT of coaches who want to win and honestly do not give much of a shit about the players. Lying is just part of their process. What the portal does do interesting is allow a much greater movement among the same kids that have been lied to or simply do not like the way things have shaken out. It's going to be harder and harder to hang onto the very talented kids who simply do not want to wait for playing time, that are unable to push the starter off the court. I still think that players still want a sense of "family." But I also think that Basketball for a very long time has been the most fickle and most bottom line of all the sports. Simply because of the potential of a high school kid to make bank. LeBron James became the dream scenario model for every high school player who believes they have NBA level talent. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens. I hate like hell to loose Holland, but if the only way to get a kid is to lie to them? I don't see Terry as that sort of coach. And with the flexibility the portal gives kids, lying about playing time or anything else is simply a one year experiment doomed to another year of portal movement.
  21. So how do you grade Terry so far? The one thing we knew was that the portal has truly changed the landscape of college basketball, with the unprecedented flexibility amid the NIL ATM wars. I said way, way back when that the most important player to recruit was Disu. I also didn't see us losing both incoming freshmen, but figured we would lose one. Morris was certainly a loss as well, but there is that asterisk with his impending court date, that might have more influence that we know. The shakeout is not complete with Mitchell and Hunter half gone, but with some optimism here as well, as reasonable evaluations, make the return of both a real possibility. But you have to like the pieces Terry has plugged in to fill the gaps. Especially when he only had a couple weeks of officially being the head coach to bolster his words when recruiting. Look at the exodus from Bill Self's Kansas, and you can see that every spring is going to from here on out be a bigger reshuffling of the deck than we have ever seen before. But right now the team looks capable, and the fears that some had early on have subsided. I don't know if we are at the back slapping and congratulations stage. But if we can get one out of Mitchell or Hunter back, I would feel pretty close. Get them both to return and I think we are certainly in the backslapping range. But right now I am pretty darn happy with what Terry has cobbled together. This recruiting season sort of reminds me of the team last season when there was a shit ton of controversy and adversity and we came through kicking ass. I also am very well aware it could have gone just as easily right down the rat hole. (which a lot of people underplay IMHO). This recruiting season seems very similar. I think if Terry can come through doing well this season it will only boost his bonafides going forward. Which should make recruiting easier next season, if still wildly unpredictable.
  22. One new place I discovered was Taqueria Mi Mexico in Aransas Pass on the way back if you take the ferry. Called them as we boarded the ferry and picked them up on way out. Homemade tortillas were the bomb for breakfast tacos. Was starting to get a lunch push at 11 am on a Monday so I am assuming the food beyond the breakfast tacos is solid as well, but mainly good for timing with a fast pit stop coming off the ferry.
  23. Since you are buying the battery. If the battery dies again it's the regulator (often inside the alternator). What happens sometimes is the regulator does not adjust to the additional load from night driving when you have the lights, wipers, whatever putting on the additional load. Alternator puts out the 14 amps normally but dips when under load, maybe down to 12 amps which is not enough to fully recharge the battery. So test the output then turn on the lights, A/C, wipers, and hit the brakes. The load will always drop for a second but the regulator should adjust the amperage in the alternator back up to the 14+ amps you need to properly charge. On the squeak, a lot of times the tensioner is the culprit. A quick cheat I have used is to take a spray bottle and spray the tensioner with some water when you can hear the offending squeak. Oftentimes that little bit of water helps the failing bearings enough to stop the squeak for a few seconds or minutes. Cheap lazy way to check that particular problem out.
  24. The good news is that if Texas can finally win the Big 12 again then we make it into the BCS. So let's just finish off this final Big 12 season in style, and cap it off with another championship. One final Big 12 Championship hat... the kind we don't have a large enough collection of. I would like to book another memory like that initial win over the Huskers made me feel... Might even stand in line again at Academy just for the camaraderie.
