  1. Here's a great example of EXACTLY where GOP control of our schools will end up. A fucking clusterfuck of a mess. Because while Republicans are great at getting angry, they are fucking terrible at fixing anything. https://www.yahoo.com/news/maga-fication-north-idaho-college-125412374.html "Mostly, people seemed stunned that it had actually come to this..." was the early line in the article that caught my eye. Because a lot of folks honestly thought that Trump neighbor or politician ultimately really wouldn't destroy the institutions they want to run because they hate them. Anyhow amazing article that shows the disfunction of the education system the more GOP politics become involved. It's a pretty good article on the degradation and gradual dismemberment of norms by GOP stalwarts. To the point where the community college may no longer even be a college. Good Article
  2. Sort of a PSA if you are in the market for a generator/inverter at a great price costco and a 4000W peak/ 3200 run Firman dual fuel unit about to go on sale (March 8th) for $599. Online they were $849 when I just looked. You can link two together and run in parallel as well if you need more power. Anyhow a great deal this month if you know somebody in need. https://www.costco.com/firman-3200w-running--4000w-peak-dual-fuel-inverter-generator.product.100843922.html
  3. Finally going to go out and play a round, Friday. I have gone out an hit a couple times with a bunch of different clubs and it's amazing how easy some of the newer "irons" are to hit. They are really more of a fairway wood or savior or whatever you want to call them but amazingly forgiving, with high launches. Just not what I think of as an Iron, and at first I definitely did not have these clubs far enough back in my stance. My brain kept thinking 5 wood, and I was hitting a 6 iron loft, so definitely some adjustment. Going to try and see how hard it is to schedule a lesson package at Golfinity today if I don't run out of time. I wanted to wait for their big grand opening promo before joining to make sure there would be available lesson scheduling once more people joined. Rather than join and be pissed that it's hard to schedule. Golf game will be with a buddy's Dad who still plays regularly and just turned 91. I hope like hell he somehow shoots his age! (and I don't suck!)
  4. Finally! What I love about the Austin Chronicle is that they do FINALLY put up a list of the shows that they personally do not sponsor about a week before the event. So they have the Unofficial Parties and Free shows link on their website. https://www.austinchronicle.com/sxsw/unofficial/. Of course not all the parties and free shows, but a decent list for sure. More importantly there are start times to a good deal of the listings. I tend to move more towards Rock and Blues as my preferred music, but one of the things I love about this time of year is the super wide variety of the lineups. The other thing I will absolutely do this year is spend some cash on some records if they are available from the bands I like. Finally got my turntable put together and time to rebuild the record collection that turned into a brick due to my rent house A/C leaking several decades ago. 😞
  5. If you are doing it right it should look like this! 😉
  6. The Longhorn part of me wishes he stayed another year, got Ricky thick and won the Heisman. But the businessman side of me says, you avoided a lot of pounding this last year. While NIL dollars would have been good for sure, better to get the contract clicking years towards free agency. Looks like nearly everyone looking at him is not expecting him to come in and carry the load. So hopefully avoiding another year of heavy pounding. The type of young man he is will make him an asset to any team's locker room, and his talents are going to get more notice as time goes on. Assuming he stays healthy he will cash in big time the next contract. I saw one projection having him go to the Cowboys, but I don't wish him a long tenure under Jerry. No matter where he goes the kid is a flat out baller and hard worker that is diligent about his profession. So fans of some lucky team are gonna get not only a hell of a player, but a great face for the team to promote off the field. I think that over time you are going to see Bijan in a lot of commercials, and that he will be very impactful off the field via charity work. Some team is gonna get luckier than they even know!
  7. Jam in the Van looks pretty good, and Armadillo Den is another "way down south" venue I haven't been too. Zach Person is one I wanted to see and missed last year, so good to see at least one chance. SXSJ 2023 LINEUP The Heavy Heavy | be your own PET | The Nude Party | Sir Woman | Thee Sacred Souls | The Lemon Twigs | The War And Treaty | Why Bonnie | Bailen| Model/Actriz| Blondshell | CIVIC | Son Rompe Pera | Monophonics | JOON | Robocobra Quartet | Oracle Sisters | the GOLDEN DREGS | Balming Tiger | Ratboys | Thus Love | Brigitte Calls Me Baby | Gypsy Mitchell | Olivia Jean Free Range | Peter One | Izzy Heltai |Shadow Show | Texas String Assembly | Charlotte Rose Benjamin | The Push & Shove | abracadabra Not too shabby, Looks like "The Heavy Heavy" is gonna be everywhere in Austin. They are getting some airplay at least on Sun Radio, and I think from the little I have heard they may be a "break out" band that gains wider appeal. Playing a small show at C-boys on the 10th I am gonna hit as a warmup to SXSW. The real key is to find out what times what bands are playing where. I actually use Do512 a lot for that as they seem to get the time frames down a lot more accurately than other sites. Anyone else have a site they use to determine the band start times?
  8. Been buying the 2 lbs of Bison for $20 at costco lately as a "keep in the fridge staple" for Blue cheese bison burgers. Unfortunately, or rather FORTUNATELY we didn't have any buns yesterday afternoon and we decided to make some bison meatballs and pasta in a cream sauce. The bison is loose and the meatballs were fragile as we put just enough binder in to barely hold the together, so a lot of delicate turning in the pan to get them browned evenly. But I will be damned, those damn Bison meatballs may have been the best damn meatballs I have ever tasted. I need to do a side by side with beef to see if it was the meat or the careful pan searing. Overate the shit out of the stuff...
  9. I was the guy yelling "You have to leave old people" joking herding folks towards the doors. Hell I actually might have gone to a show for Speedy Sparks at C-Boys had I known earlier. A great lineup there, Yard Dog party w/ Waco Brothers (11:00), Jon Langford & the Far Forlorn (10:00), the Silos (9:00), Churchwood (8:00), Wild Seeds (7:00), Casey Neill (6:00), Bob Schneider (5:00), Jon Dee Graham & William Harries Graham (4:00), Alice Spencer & Brian Beattie (3:20), Ethan Azarian (3:00) which we caught the last encore song). Sort of nice to have my wife not drink, as we hung at C-boys a little while, then went to Sagebrush which I had not been to before and saw Chili Cold Blood who was hosting a chili cook off. Chili Cold Blood was pretty good as well. They had an interesting blending of genres and were putting on a pretty solid show. Yeah I thought they might kick ass. Thus my earlier in the week thoughts of attendance. My 8 hour shift of day concerts and jack Daniels made me opt to rest on Sunday. Congrats to the proud Papa. Now I have to make sure I see during SXSW. Before they start their world tour and never come back... (just kidding DAD!)
  10. The real bottom line is Fox News is a propaganda organization, not a news network. I tape all the Sunday network news shows. On Fox... you got 14 minutes of Tim Scott, 15 minutes of Train crash, 10 minutes of a drawings of court proceedings and 8 minutes of general negative reporting using polling on Biden. NO COVERAGE AT ALL of the only truly historic event of the week. The President's visit to Ukraine. Why you might ask was the single most historic news event of the weekend completely avoided by Fox News? Because it has told us, it's viewers prefer a false narrative to reality. So that's what Fox gives them each and every day. A false narrative that fits with the predetermined biases of their viewers. Other News stations clearly lean left, but the cover the fucking news. Fox is different... because they are not a new channel, they are a propaganda channel. Which is exactly why Newt Gringrich and the GOP passed changed the law that used to protect the American public from false narratives. By changing the law to allow foreign ownership of broadcast networks in the United States. Fox News simply does not give a fuck about what is good for America or the American Public, they care about advertising. Nothing more, nothing less, and they have the most loyal rubes in our country watching their lies and propaganda daily.
  11. Nice show yesterday at Antone's with Patrice Pike's band opening up for Soul Hat, at a tribute for KLBJ DJ Johnny Walker after his recent passing. Hadn't see Patrice Pike for a while but I have decided she's our local Sheryl Crow. I can still remember her fronting Sister 7 and rocking out at Steamboat so long ago. But really nice to see Soul Hat again. The last time I saw them was at Stubbs maybe a decade ago? But they kicked ass. I was seeing a lot of music and visiting my old bar homies in the early 90's while I was putting the wife through Pharmacy school. She was studying her ass off all the time, and I was bored and the Black Cat became part of my regular rotation. They really were(are) a damn good band. Nice blast from the past and fuck yes to Bonecrusher once again closing out their set. Johnny Walker made that song Iconic to myself and many others on Friday at 5 pm when he would thumb his nose weekly at the FCC with his salute to the weekend. I had forgotten how prescient Johnny Walker was. I remember the very first SXSW, a $12 wristband to see the bands I was already seeing. But Andy Langer reminded me that Walker would fondly announce the flight departures to LA and New York as we rid ourselves of the festival interlopers. I wonder how many of those folks Walker wished farewell live here today? Anyhow I'll miss you Johnny, and great damn show Soulhat!!!
  12. Stuff is starting to shape up. C-Boys on SoCo is putting on it's first annual SoCo Stomp march 15-19th. Guess it's gonna be a regular thing since they set up a separate website 40 bands and all day shows from 1-7 pm.https://www.socostomp.com/ Friday March 17th Yard Dog party at ABGB's Yard Dog party w/ Waco Brothers (11:00), Jon Langford & the Far Forlorn (10:00), the Silos (9:00), Churchwood (8:00), Wild Seeds (7:00), Casey Neill (6:00), Bob Schneider (5:00), Jon Dee Graham & William Harries Graham (4:00), Alice Spencer & Brian Beattie (3:20), Ethan Azarian (3:00)
  13. Oh one more VERY important thing!!! There is a thermal fuse safety that when it heats up breaks the electrical connection internally. Usually this is because something is blocking the exhaust, or the filter is so clogged you cannot get good airflow. So the area around the heating element gets too hot and the fuse breaks the connection. Here's the weird thing, you can actually reset this fuse by whacking the flat disk until it resets. You can check continuity and see that the fuse works again. Sometimes it's awkward, but nearly every dryer has this sort of thermal fuse to prevent fire. You have to whack it pretty hard and sometimes there is a framework about it. But man, the satisfaction of getting the mofo to work again without having to order a part.... fucking satisfying as hell! I taped it to a dowel to get some leverage and a couple whacks downward as pictured and no service call!
  14. Don't feed the morons. bottom line is this wreck, like any mass killing using an assault weapon is the result of the GOP's unwillingness to do anything but whine and whine and whine. Exactly like you hear with Biden, Buttigieg, or any other Democratic. Just complain like a motherfucker and never, ever, ever put forth any fucking legislation to solve even minor issues of importance. The ONLY thing of any consequence the Republicans have done is the last 40 years via national legislation is simply explode the deficit spending again and again when they INHERIT good economies form the Democrats.
  15. I'll bet you dropped some F-Bombs! All your really had to do was remove the front mount that holds the heating element in place to remove it. Little screw behind it is a booger to access though. Tight quarters to be sure, and I dropped the screws about 5 times trying to get them back in, but a lot easier than removing the drum. In my case I have done this surgery a couple times. And now unfortunately I have to do exactly what your picture shows! 😉 Have the box of four rollers one of those mofo's is getting noisy. Past all the electronic control panel shit dryers are pretty fucking simple, electrically.
  16. What's funny is your right to be a fucking verifiably mentally disturbed person and buy an AR15 to shoot up a school never falls into the "well let's arrest you and we will figure it out later category." Of course the "real danger" is that vape cartridge you thought was legal. I guess the only solution to the police abuse would be to carry around the receipt? But then they would just say, nope, receipt might be fake! Get an attorney and sort it out.... giggle... giggle... The reason drugs are illegal. Republicans sell fear as their singular most popular product. Almost all GOP fund raising the last 40 years has been fear based, and drugs fold right into that. Well... and the original reason for making things like marijuana illegal to begin with... brown people. The sad thing is most kids honestly have no fucking idea that the little vape pen the carry is the exact same legally as carrying around 5 POUNDS of marijuana. They are identical in the eyes of Texas law. Neither poses the level of danger associated with the level of punishment. It is honestly nearly impossible to make a coherent argument that the penalty matches the crime when it comes to vape pens. It is however, a great way for police to routinely abuse their discretion, and ruin lives selectively. Shit I think the vape pens are great, but not worth a felony charge. I wouldn't buy the delta shit simply because I know the police in general are not that bright and the chance of getting fucked over even though in legal possession are simply too likely for me. There is a solution PLEASE YOUNG PEOPLE VOTE!!!! SAVE US FROM THE OLDER WHITE RURAL (often racist) MINORITY THE GOP WANT TO RULE THE STATE!
  17. Probably the only certainty is that we will host the first A&M matchup which will wrap the Aggies panties so tightly that their birthrate may fall in 2024. So Pods...? Or no Pods...?
  18. Qualified Immunity means, I woke up afraid, I was afraid for my life, I can do anything I want!
  19. Well I guess I should add Vivek's pic to the clown car. I guess the greatest thing about the GOP 2024 Clown Car... right now it's more diverse than ANY group ever elected by Republicans! Donald is saying AWESOME! The more clowns I can get into the car, the more likely the most dangerous clown can become President again.
  20. As we talk about scores and handicaps, I forgot what I dislike most about the game. The general lack of honor of so fucking many people. Anyhow thanks all! I saw the GHIN system. The place I am looking at has Trackman? simulator to get my lessons at. I figure 8 lesson in the next two months (twice as many as I ever had) will put me on the right track. They gal showing me the place said a lot of coaches like Trackman to coach from. Is that true? I am very ignorant here as I have never hit even a single ball in a simulator. But as I was telling my wife I will absolutely listen to coaching, but does this trackman system give you enough information to where you can help coach yourself? If that makes sense. Like does it tell you if the ball is spinning left or right? So I could see how minor position adjustments in my feet might for example change the spin on the ball? THANKS AGAIN all of you for answering my sometimes stupid questions.
  21. So probably super dumb question. But I never really turned my cards in before to get an official handicap, and wondered what is the best way to do this since I will be playing mostly public golf courses around Austin. Seems like my Father-in-Law used to be part of MGA or Men's Golf Association in Austin. Any pros or cons to joining one club or another. Do you even turn the cards in? Or is there an App where you turn them in digitally? There is a large group that plays once a month I go invited to play with months ago, but I really need to establish a handicap before I play because they run it as a tournament. Plus I figure I need to get some rounds in while I suck! 😉
  22. That little fucking wire was hard as shit to find during covid. The supply one supply house in that I found one in, told me that one of their regulars bought 47 of the last 48 they had. I got the 48th. Shit you had undetermined, as lead times all over the internet. I felt damn lucky just to have the part. Assuming it's the part with two different size female clips that so often burns out. I miss my old beater gas dryer that I tossed when replacing with the the "newish" front loading set. One a side note the wife was putting in some enchiladas this Sunday and it looked like the oven light was flickering on and off from the living room. I was not the light. Instead it was the electric burner failing as the burner rod began to melt. It looked like a welder when the outer bit of metal burned away. Glad as fuck we were not cooking something big where we put it in the oven and do outside chores. So after having my whole house flood 18 months ago, the oven could have easily lit up and at least smoke damaged the whole place we finally have put all back together. Good luck with your appliances boys and girls! Might be a good time for me to check my dryer vent hose, before some other appliance tries to ruin my life.
  23. Hell if I didn't have the "pull it out of my ass luck" you would for sure be right! Actually if I am playing for low score, i'm conservative as hell. But I will also absolutely attempt shots that are low percentage, but because usually there is a lot of money on the line, and it's do or die. About the only time I have ever really tried to work the ball at all has been really with foot/ball position on my 3 and 4 iron rather than thinking I can move my strike point 3/8 of an inch with any degree of consistency. Thank God I can putt and can read the green usually pretty well. My lines are usually good, but my touch on speed is definitely off. But that will take care of itself with a little more practice, with consciously firmer putts, along with pro side, not low side adjustments to stay higher on the hole to make it "larger." The wind on the green was definitely fucking with me today when I was practicing. I do have two paperback copies of "Drive for Show, Putt for Dough. Memoirs of a Golf Hustler" on the way. Great read if you have never read it! Since the only reason I used to play was gambling it was a great guide to some of the psychology of successful golf gambling I was unaware of. Highly recommended!
  24. My future Golf Buddy had some hand me down Taylor made RZB's that are probably 8 or so years old. But light years ahead of my old ass beaters. The larger more forgiving club face definitely reduced the mis-hits. Though the grips were worn and my hands were slipping some, the technology was a considerable improvement. In the past I have really preferred a corded grip on my irons. My buddy did not like these because of the steel shafts, and is moving to a set with graphite shafts. I need to hit some new technology Irons in both steel and graphite to see if I want to move to graphite shafts on my irons. One question though. Will a larger face and graphite shafts make it harder to work the ball with a draw or fade? I am assuming more forgiveness (flex) makes this more difficult? Was definitely getting a LOT more distance on the RZB's. Whatever I go with I am going to have to rethink the distances from what I used to use to calculate years ago. I also liked to use my 4 and 3 a fair amount back when I could sort of work the ball on longer approaches, and my 5 wood for more straight away shots. I can see how with a bit of practice, and some better technology in equipment, I should be able to shoot bogie golf in no time. Mainly I just don't want to be the asshole slowing down everything searching for my ball in the woods every other hole.
  25. It was probably for Fall 2022.... knowing Aggies...
