It seems to me the main thing it takes to be Republican is to be afraid of everything, and responsible for nothing.

Democrats fix Economies, Republicans fuck up good ones they are given. Cycle has repeated it for nearly the entirety of our lives. Jimmy Carter handed off an economy on the upswing to Reagan. And Reagan and the GOP spent and borrowed like drunken sailors. Bush got a decent economy, and kept the spending increasing as the economy faltered, but was on recovery as Clinton took office. Economy generally kicked ass under Clinton and the rate of deficit spending actually declining. GWB inherited an economy so strong, he actually inherited a surplus. Which Bush and the GOP quickly squandered with rebate checks rather than bay down any of the debt mostly accumulated with GOP Presidential signatures, Bush doesn't really read his Presidential daily Briefings, and a simple, inexpensive and successful terror operation brings us 9/11. Wholesale spending Giving away huge chunks of wasted security money to states as more largesse, lacking in strategic purpose, deficit spending again explodes under a Republican President. Bush's administrations passion for home ownership and disdain for Regulation spawns housings crises, and additional monies borrowed as shit economy collapsing is handed off to Obama. Obama immediately forced into additional deficit spending trying to fix the mess that was not properly addressed of fixed. After 8 years the strongest economy every handed off to a President was handed off to Donald J Trump. Republicans again spent like Drunken sailors massively increasing the deficit with the usual tax cut falsely labeled "The Tax Cut and Jobs Act," again exponentially exploding deficit spending. Again in a time of relative plenty. In the two years leading up to Trump taking the oath of office the Obama/Biden Administration produced and average of 2.53 million jobs a year. Trump and the GOP producing nothing but debt with their legislation. With jobs falling to 2.03 million the first year, 2.44 million the next year, and 2.03 million ending in January as covid began to rise. Trump hands off a debt laden piece of shit economy to Biden. With the added bonus of a covid disaster and SPECIFIC and PURPOSEFUL obstruction of communication regarding covid and vaccines was also handed off to Biden. Biden humps for two years. Solves the cluster fuck (and it was massive) that was a lack of any actual physical distribution plan for the covid vaccine and has created so many jobs it is mind boggling. Now the GOP it again simply trying to fuck the economy so they can get a shot at 2024. McCarthy and the GOP have no fucking plan at all. their plan is the same as their healthcare plan. Lie like fuck that you have some ideas, and attack, attack, attack anything constructive that could be gained from compromise. They are quite simply non-patriotic whores for power. Nothing more and nothing less. They are devoid af any actual ideas. We will be waiting forever for the GOP Healthcare plan. Just like we will be waiting forever for a budget that truly encompasses what the GOP believes. Because... what they believe the MAJORITY of the country if fucking dead set against. stepping angrily down off soap box. Because everything I said is factual, and I could never get any Trump supporter to admit any of these facts as true... and that's sad.

The thing I hated about the fucking prosecution is they did not paint a proper narrative of the situation. Rittenhouse was so afraid of the threat from the man who had clear advantage and could have easily shot Rittenhouse... But DID NOT! I would have waited until Rittenhouse when through his description of the video and yelled out BOOM! at the point where Rittenhouse was on the ground starting to gather himself. Pointing out that the man who had advantage should have emptied his clip into Rittenhouse. As at that point in time Rittenhouse was the only actual threat. Otherwise how do you explain the "perceived threat" from failing to take advantage of his superior tactical position? I would make Rittenhouse go through the tape again and again, identifying the point at which the man he shot, should have shot him while still in a position of advantage? I could have spent an hour on that. And it would have destroyed his self-defense assertion.

C-Boys is a great but small venue. I think their shows actually cost them money in all honesty. The place was a complete zoo even on Sundays the last couple years. If memory serves me, I think somebody usually reports the venues that have applied for special event noise permits issued for the dates in question. I think that last year was a decent increase in permits from pre-covid but not close to what were being issued in 2019. In fact about 50% less. When the list for "special events" comes out that will give you a good idea of what degree of expansion this year might offer. I always wait anxiously for Jo's SXSJ lineup, but that's usually like 10 days before the event. I did look back at some of the posters and it brought back some good memories. The last thing I did last time I was in continental was buy a last drink from the waitress, get her name while giving a fat tip, and telling her to look for me in March! Being nice early and often is a recipe for getting a drink a LOT more easily when it's packed at Continental.

We have been doing the occasional lamb burgers that have been fantastic. Wife put together her own sauce, mayo, sour cream, lemon, garlic, fresh dill, and we stir a healthy amount of feta into that sauce. Using the ground lamb and arugula (MINUS the stems) as the lettuce. Damn good. But I saw that COSTCO has 2.5 lbs of ground Bison for $20, and I thought why not make a buffalo wing inspired burger. I will get the Buffalo Bill at Hopdoddy occasionally, so it's not my invention or anything, but I did not realize how easy wing sauce is. Just melt some butter, dump in a bunch of crystal hot sauce and add garlic power to taste as you whisk it. Fucking easy! Anyhow here is my Bison, blue cheese, buffalo sauce burger, on a brioche bun.

First off I am sorry you and you family have to go through this. It's a story that sadly is repeated over and over, maybe someday...Hospice is your friend. They are there to help you and help you care for your loved one. They are a closer evaluator of your father's condition, and can't give you personal comfort and give you good advice. They simply have experience in this arena. While I am NOT a pharmacist but Adivan along with the morphine. It's in the valium family, my FIL recently passed and the addition of this drug helped with the anxiety they experience. Anyhow might ask the doc about some something for his mood? The best you can do for him now is try to make him as comfortable as possible, and lean heavily on hospice. They are both knowledgable and supportive. For my wife even though she is a Pharmacist in long term care their advice was invaluable in helping with choosing a course of action. Thoughts and prayers for your Father and mother, stay strong. I'm just glad your mom is lucky enough to have you around.

I think Acho's ability to unite haters from exact opposite ends of the race issue spectrum is... well... fascinating...

This is the Santos congress. From top to bottom. Basically an entire party and current platform based on fabrication. Heck they guys that decided to borrow more in a time of plenty than any other congress in history when controlled by Republicans and a Republican President now... are concerned about deficits. there is a good reason why Santos is still in Congress. Lies simply do not matter to the GOP. Lies are now part of the basic stock and trade of the GOP. Thus thus lies are no longer something any Republican needs to be concerned with at all. PS- Lindsay Graham is so pissed. He really thought that being filmed, photographed, and interviewed in drag, was something the GOP could never endorse... how wrong he was...

Why won’t we fight misinformation, teach critical thinking skills?
horn4life replied to Satchel's topic in Cloak Room
Because without and angry and misinformed population the Republican Party doesn't have a chance... Hell that's why colleges are so fucking dangerous to the GOP. Any sort of critical thinking is a negative. Why do you think folks are so intent on banning books they have never read at local School Board meetings now? The dumb and misinformed are the people that Republicans WANT as the gatekeepers of information and critical thinking. That's fucking sad, that it is so fucking accurate. -

The eternal truth the Aggies simply never understand is they simply are NOT a national brand. Doesn't matter if they grossly overpay coaches to get attention. It doesn't matter that they build great facilities. They simply never get over the hill. To be honest A&M was on the cusp of changing their brand at the end of 2020, and even closer after landing a monster class last year that helped buoy the Aggies into a top ranked team in the preseason. Then they lay an egg, and another egg, and another... Then that huge contract that was put in place to draw attention, does draw attention. But for all the wrong reasons. There is a reason that A&M is never taken seriously. They simply never have been able to rise to the occasion. In essence their brand is a joke. That they have proven and reinforced over and over again. The screenshots on this thread are a testament to the Aggie brand being something that is humorous. But god Damn they are fun to fucking laugh at! -

I think that with ANY band, it's hard to recreate the initial shows where the band itself is fucking fired up! Before the sex, drugs, rock and roll tour, endlessness takes its toll. Sammy Hagar is a better musician and has a better voice. But David Lee Roth early on knew how the fuck to put on a Show! I young athletic guy running around like a manic doing air splits is just better to watch juxtaposed against the same music. I've seen both and the fact of the matter is you just can't recreate the buzz and thrill for both band and audience when they were promoting their initial album. Supposedly this is the set list from that show in '78. It's short but they were the warmup, and I felt sorry for Black Sabbath having to follow this shit up. here is a link where you can click on each song. The band poured their energy and excitement into this to PROVE they were the real deal, and they were! 1978 set list link with clickable songs. Click on that set list. It will run through each song. I think you will find it extremely hard to argue that seeing an early show with a band trying so hard to make a name for themselves supporting this particular group of songs from their first album is not actually the pinnacle for seeing the band live. Ice Cream Man Eruption You Really Got Me Runnin' With the Devil Jamie's Cryin' Little Dreamer Guitar Solo Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love I'm the One Atomic Punk On Fire I guess my analysis of VH as a longer term band is that Hagar was a better fit. And if there is one integral thing to being an exciting front man over time it's... hair. Roth rocked the shit out of his when he had it, and for me the show and the youth and excitement were irreplaceable by Sammy Hagar. But without Hagar's professionalism and affability Van Halen might not have even had anything to debate about. Hagar has the better voice IMHO at least in vocal range. But Hagar simply wasn't there for this tour and album. And no other Van Halen album never caught as fully that lightning in a bottle as their early touring, when the band was hungry. I just listened to that entire set list, and no wonder I remember it as one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen (and I have seen some doozies). Which reminds me, go see some young guns, who are trying to make a name from themselves. That's how bands like Van Halen find their way, with a little local support at first.

Saw Van Halen open up for Black Sabbath in 1978, walked out on Sabbath. Used to play that shit so loud in high school it was crazy. 30 years later I am going to meet a buddy who I know is playing basketball outside with his son. His son is a guitar god and total ripper but I knew he wasn't familiar with Van Halen. There is a long downhill to his place in Great Hills and I roll down the windows and blast the living crap out of the opening of "Eruption." His son bought the music the next day and became a big enough fan to drag his Dad to see them in San Antonio a few years back. My Buddy still thanks me for turning his son onto them, as does his son. Generation after window shaking generation! TURN IT UP LOUD!!!!

I can still remember sitting around listening to "Our House" as 6th or 7th grader off their Deja Vu album and 8 miles high by the The Byrds, We had some eclectic taste back then, probably as our albums were mostly hand me downs from older kids, or our parents. I remember a rotation of Deja Vu, Emerson Lake and Palmer Targus(?) David Bowie, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars, Genesis (can't remember the album), Jimmy Hendrix, The Experience Album, as well as a sprinkling of Stones, Beatles, Zepplin and whatnot. The two songs that are burned into my soul from that time period of youthful uncertainty was "Our House," and "Suffragette City" (probably my all time favorite). I didn't know until this weekend that David Bowie offered Mott the Hoople "Suffragette City" to keep them together when he heard they were about to break up. Instead they chose, "All the Young Dudes." Another of my favorite songs, and I saw Alejandro Escovedo close with it at Continental last weekend. I know that somewhere out there, Crosby is likely rolling a joint... Still Smiling...

I think I am going to start using the word "Republican" as an adjective. It might be a fun way to change the world and inform today's youth in a more humorous manner the dangers of a party that no longer cares much for democracy, honesty, integrity, principles nor courage. IF you can get Ginormous into Webster's Dictionary then maybe we can add another line under republican? When a part fails on your car - that's so republican. When a bridge fails - that's so republican When there is any man made disaster - that's so republican When the Federal Government voluntarily stops paying the bills and scrubs billions off the stock market - That's so republican When you get a slapped together sandwich - man that's republican When a team loses a 24 point lead - that was republican When a state loses power to the electrical grid - that's so republican When an innocent person is executed - that's so republican re·pub·li·can. adjective 1. (of a form of government, constitution, etc.) belonging to, or characteristic of a republic. 2. of very low quality, inferior, improperly designed (see: crappy) noun 1.1. a person advocating or supporting republican government. 2.2 a member or Supporter of the Republican party

He fucking punted on Jack Ryan, that enough is a gauge of his over-self worth. He has a pretty good defense just pointing at the armorer, unless there are communications showing he had concern the the Armorer's competency. The fact he hired the armorer is where the water gets muddied. Of course I am only going on what has been out there in the public. Baldwin did himself no favors in recording testimony in an interview about the matter. How the fuck any live ammunition got on the set tends to show a casual nature, that was likely accepted by the producer. That's where he faces the exposure. For me I would never point a gun at anyone (unless I was going to shoot them). But I am not an actor. If somebody did want me to point a gun at someone I would be compelled to check to be certain that the gun was not loaded. I don't trust other folks on this. It will be interesting to see all the communications behind the scenes that will most certainly come out at trial.

There is no bottom to the lack of quality politicians there are REPRESENTING Republican voters. And even more terrifying, the Republican party as a whole does nto give a shit. As they can simply pretend whatever they need to pretend to justify the need for the GOP to have a majority. Which do you think is more likely regarding the Republican party officials? A) There was no research done at all, and there are simply no quality control on candidates in the GOP. B) The GOP establishment knew what a scumbag this guy was, but decided that nothing matters but a potential GOP vote. I will say that the Dems really dropped the ball in NY, and this is part of the problem. The only folks that give a shit about the quality of their candidates is the Democratic party. Hell it is almost laughable to look back and see The Democratic Party push Sen. Al Franken out of office, because for Dems principles matter! For Republicans? Fuck you have to be kidding, even asking the question.

My buddy now tells me that he does go to Grumbles and says they have a stout Pińa Colada, but too sweet and heavy for my taste. I guess one day I will break down and walk in, but right now they are still on my fuck the takeover list. My "go to" is still La Playa for Fajitas or Fish Specials, Virgina's for Smoked tuna dip, and fish Sandwisch, Kody's for Garlic Fish and a decent drink away from the crowds (other food is solid too), with a splash of Lelo's tossed in for their burgers and Hummus plate. I really wish I liked the Blue Water Cowboy more, maybe I will give them another shot just to for the upper deck view. There is other good food on the island for sure, but that's a great short list. Red's Patio Bar at the Golf course is decent as well and usually not crowded. have fun as give us a report!

I think 2019 was the last year in the alley. Saw a great set of Uncle Lucious there as the last I saw I think. Yard Dog takes over ABGB now, or did last year. Seems like Bloodshot records was a sponsor at least one of the days. With that moving I started looking a little more to Lucy's as they had full days of music I think Wednesday through Sunday. In fact Lucy's usually has a pretty solid Sunday lineup with everyone else has called SXSW over at that point.

Come one come all and give your personal suggestions and sleeper finds among what I think is going to be an explosion of more "unofficial" shows around this time. Covid scrubbed off a lot and I think this year is going to include a lot more music sound town this year. For years SoCo has been our go to, but slowly but surely a lot of the old music venues have gotten displaced, and moved or downsized in covid. My current pattern is mainly a drift back and forth between Continental Club and SXSJ (South by San Jose) with an occasional walk down to C-Boys or Lucy's fried Chicken for a particular band. Yard Dog in the Alley is gone now but I they have reincarnated their shows at ABGB (Austin beer Garden and brewing) so they still have a presence just not walking distance. I did not realize for some reason that KLBJ has day shows at Cooper's on Congress until last year. Still missed Zach Person, but it's on my day list this year. We also went to a great day show called Floodfest in 2019 at Cedar Street what was good solid via RSVP. Last year I went to some Day outdoor shows at Hotel Vegas on Saturday and then made the mistake of trying to cross the highway to get south for a band and it would have been easier to go east to Pleasant Valley to cross the river from the Ease 6th street area. So feel to put in any SXSW travel logistics. Done some Dogwood shows as well. For me it's trying to find a couple of solid bands grouped together. The other thing I see more and more is RSVP shows. Mainly I want to see good music in smaller venues! Up and comer bands is what SXSW is all about. I'm still pissed at the wife for missing Courtney Barnett at Buffalo Billiards a couple years ago. And at my sister for making me eat a $25 chicken fried steak instead of watching the black Pumas for more than the last couple songs. There are real gems to be found each and every SXSW and most of them are at the non-official gigs, because haven't made a name yet for themselves and they are playing 3 shows as well as a single small venue official show. I know that most of the Unofficial shows don't firm up until February. But tell me what you favorite venues have been over the years during SXSW, and help me expand my range a bit. When the good shows firm up let us know when and where!

OK. What I used to do was use tiers of sponsorship. Where a top tier $500 sponsor might get a banner for the outfield, a 1/4 page coupon or ad on the advertising flyers given to each kid with their uniforms, and a pop up in rotation on the website. A $300 banner only since you have already been selling those, and add a 1/8 page ad as a bonus. But you can pull stacks of $100 dollar donations, if you can somehow tie it advertising. Uniform kit flyers are super cheap and allow sponsors to get some advertising into the hands of each kid (parent). So maybe for $100 you get to include a 1/8 inch ad/coupon in the flyer. I used a gold, silver and bronze sponsor level. Hit up the trophy place, the decal place, the team photo place, the uniform place, anyone that makes a dime off of the kiddos. I don't know about your ability to run tournaments, but I think my best fundraiser was like $17,000 after the tournament fees, T-shirt sales, and clean profit sponsorship dollars. Good Luck! My tag line to close sales was a grinning, "it's for the children!" Most everyone can part with $100 to help out. The sponsorship sales were actually easier than I thought, because damnit sponsoring kids is an easy product to sell. The way I looked at it, was every dime I raise past the costs of producing the even were pure profit to the association. But find ways to add advertising opportunities to the donations and you will sell a shit ton. And be a hero! Thanks for doing this for the kids. I know how much time and effort it takes, but it really is worth it!
