Texas Basketball Recruiting Notes: It's Miller Time
horn4life replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
Boys if you are not back slapping happy with the roster of TERRY'S team, then you just cannot be made to be happy. What I would be very curious to know is what the coaches and players have known about Hunter and Mitchell during the portal recruiting period. I would also like to know how Terry's "family" style of recruiting played in the heads of the two returning players? One of my concerns about Terry's recruiting style was how well it would hold up in the changed landscape of the transfer portal. It's still a concern, but not as much of a concern. I also wonder what Beard may have said to the incoming freshmen who decided not to come, and if that differed what what Terry told them? Basically I would love to know the true behind the scenes machinations, and what factors were or were not important to the players on the current roster. Do not get me wrong, I think that Terry's style up until the portal is exactly the recruiting style I would want for my kid. As I think parents and players know the guy truly cares about the kids in his care. And I think the "in his care" part is genuine, and something a lot of coaches do not really care about beyond the court. But like I said out the outset of this recruiting adventure, I felt Terry started off with a disadvantage being the interim coach label for nearly all of the recruiting season. I also knew that good or bad, we were going to find our pretty damn fast whether Terry was going to be able to get the kids he needed to be tournament competitive in the coming season. Then heap on the fact that 4 of the players who were presumed to be on the roster all were looking at leaving the program made recruiting even more complicated for Terry. Like I said I wish I knew the behind the scenes story, but you have to love the team Terry has put together. I can't help but think that as the head coach with a real contract, and a solid season next year, recruiting could be even better next year. Especially if this team can make another run in the NCAA's! To quote an old Austin band Timbuk 3, "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!" In fact I think "I gotta wear shades" would be a good slogan for this year's team! -

I guess it's awesome that McCarthy was able to deliver 2/3 of his caucus under threat of destruction of the US economy. How the fuck do you negotiate with somebody who can't fucking deliver the votes he says he has? 132 yes votes from the GOP for ransom, and of course adult Dems getting the children of the GOP across the line... Literally the GOP is a bunch of fucking children. It's ridiculous. -

I don't completely disagree. Because the money has to come from somewhere. How many times in a lifetime do you think the average $60K a year worker goes to an airport? How many times do millionaires? The masses pay taxes. The rich, have so many different avenues to reduce taxation that the reality is that they should pay more. Yet that $60K earners taxes support something they don't use. it's a taxpayre freebee this infrastructure stuff. The bottom line is the curve of debt as well as a further concentration of wealth into fewer and fewer hand started with the Reagan tax cuts and has continued. You need look no further than the closing of rural hospitals and the overall shittiness of our infrastructure to know that somebody isn't paying their share like they did in the 1950's. The bottom line is that if at any time Republicans had created the jobs and tax revenue promised by their tax cuts, we would be in debt but not remotely where we are now. The bottom line is more jobs are created in Democratic Presidential terms, and less deficit spending with their signatures. It's just math, the kind that the GOP does not understand. IF there were not a million ways for the wealthy to avoid taxation it wouldn't be necessary to een think about the SS cap. -

Just to give you a visual of how UNREPRESENTATIVE GOP congressional districts are, take a quick look at Purity crusader Chip Roy. A fucking rock(R) could win in a district (like all Texas districts) designed to give rural racists a much greater say than is reality. Hopefully young people will keep voting and we can get representative government at least to some degree again. And I will be JUST as critical of Dems if they do this sort of shit. But the Dems are not elevating Bomb throwers in these sorts of districts like the GOP does. -

Because they wanted the disingenuous Republicans to vote for the bill THEY held the country hostage for. Otherwise there is not a majority of Republicans who would vote for it. Think about that for a second. The hostage taker negotiates a ransom, then won't fucking take the negotiated deal! Without the children of the hostage help them carry off the ransom. Fucking crazy. -
No. The problem is the boats are now getting damaged by the larger wakes. I will see if I can find the video, but super sharp peaky 3 foot waves knocking the shit out of Clines Landing (not sure about Baytree) they actually had a guy from the Port Authority explain there may be some sort of submerged wave reducers they can install, that sounded like a possibility. The HOA voted on not building out lifts at least at this point. I think their Storm insurance doubling had something to do with the desire not to incur that additional expense. And yes Port A is changing so fast it's mind blowing. I guess the main impact of the Lake Padre development will be more sustained development where land is available. Port A is going the way of Austin. You still have some of the vibe, but becoming unrecognizable.

These sort of battles do show the extremes of both parties pretty clearly. Both are harmful to compromise, because they believe their "purity" is more important than actually getting shit done. The Big Difference? The GOP is the party of NO! And because of this they allow their extreme members to take control of the party BECAUSE of their willingness to never compromise. Indeed that's why you cannot negotiate with Republicans, because they simply always have to renegotiate with the extreme of their party, who KNOWS the power of simply saying NO! in the GOP. The GOP elevates the extremist bomb throwers, because the Republicans do not have any principles beyond personal power. Personal power, not representing the people is now the only principle the GOP represents. There is no other. This twisted desire for personal power, above serving the country is what allows the extreme of the GOP to force Kevin McCarthy and our country into dangerous waters. Because Kevin's personal power as leader is more important than actually being able to lead! How fucked up is that? So here we are. The Republicans that ALWAYS add to the deficit at a faster pace than their Democratic counterpart are howling at the moon in protest... for paying the bills they charged at the tax cut trough. Only destruction can please a large portion of the GOP. And how the fuck do you negotiate anything when the other side EMPOWERS the most extreme members of their party rather than mute them? Hilariously the very gerrymandering the GOP has used to lock in seats, is what now prevents them from legislating. Because the GOP elevates it's crazies, and the Dams... not so much. -
Seems like the biggest problem for Port A is getting warm bodies to work. justhookit - I have two questions for you. First off have there been adverse effects in the Marina from the addition of the super large ships now able to come into Corpus? I know the Marina area next to Cline's landing is basically devoid of boats, where in the past they were nearly full or full. The larger ships put larger wakes into the marina area there (and I assume at Baytree) and I saw some video of waves making an out and back in the marina with a nearly 3 foot wave, slapping the bottoms of the decking between the berths. I also noticed that there were not as many smaller boats moored in the city marina near Roberts point as I remembered. Just wondering if it's just Cline's landing or up and down the ship channel. Second Question - How much will the development of Lake Padre in Corpus impact Port A? If at all? Wasn't sure if they were going to have a lot of larger full time moorings or if it was going to be more smaller berths. Seems like it will cause North Padre to take on more of a Port A vibe with perhaps more of a fishing focus?

Oh McCarthy has Balls. He just lets MTG take care of handling one of them, by keeping it in her pocket. Sort of like my buddy who I have nicknamed "Juan Pelota." Now like I said, how many Dems is it going to take to be able to get a bill through the GOP controlled house? That lets the bomb throwers in the GOP vote no, and lament not causing catastrophic harm to our nation. 50? 60? And once again Biden is the big dicked naked guy walking over to McCarthy while he is tying his shoes at the gym... -
First off, why after so very, very long has the GOP taken action on information that has been in front of their face for years now? Is ANYONE her fucking dumb enough to think the GOP woke up this week and said, "Wow, we have a criminal avoiding prosecution as our AG, and he is completely and totally corrupt? Fuck NO! What I believe has happened is, there must be some new internal polling data that is concerning about the next election. NOTHING else would cause a party devoid of morals and principles to take any actions on the basis of morality or ethics. So in a weird way this is a good thing in that the polling data shows weakness in the GOP in Texas. And getting rid of Paxton is just way to PRETEND that there is some degree of morality of ethics held by elected Republicans, when nothing could be further from the truth.

I can't wait to see what sort of silliness the Republicans put forth in the budget they are fucking terrified to put down on paper. I think the best way to skull fuck the GOP is once we get past this issue, start attacking the GOP on their lack of a budget (solely with GOP votes) nor a bipartisan border bill to address the crisis they keep screaming about. Then go out to Republican districts and ask over and over again why is it the poorest and middle class that always bear the burden of tax cuts for millionaires? Why? Attack the GOP and ask, "Why does the GOP never, ever offset their millionaire tax cuts with spending cuts? Because the only time you have seen ANY fiscal restraint from the GOP is right after they add trillions to the deficit with tax cuts? And it's always the middle class that has to pay the bill... I hope Biden really goes on offense after this fake crisis passes. -

Don't disagree, but that's what you get when you actually have a diverse caucus. When you can get everyone to walk in goose step... err lock step as the GOP does it's an advantage. It's also an advantage for the political party that is willing to not give a shit about retirees, the military, 401K's, or the health of the US economy. It's like the baby and Solomon, the GOP is willing to at least make a few deep cuts to the baby. Just to see what happens? The Dems? Actually give a shit about people and the US economy, and the GOP sees that as something to take advantage of because for the GOP tanking the economy is something always worth risking when there is a Dem president. I guess the only thing to think about now is how many Dems is it going to take to help McCarthy across the finish line? If the Dems were Pubs they would simply refuse to vote for the extension and risk tanking the US economy. They could win, but at what risk? The GOP doesn't care about people, so they don't see the risk. -
discussion- can someone explain predetermined game scripts to me?
horn4life replied to shadow_operative's topic in Football
This is pretty much it. Of course at the college level you know you are gonna get scouted, so they are probably gonna know your tendencies. That's why you don't show your whole hand early in the season. I would think basically the entire script is about tendencies, both your teams and theirs. Again at the college level most of the time the kids are going to be able to execute the playbook. At least when they are fresh on the first series, if they don't brain fart. Mostly I would use it to try and impose the tendencies we think that we are best able to on offense, while at the same time looking closely at the one or two weakest links you think you have identified on D. While you think you may have identified a tendency (weakness) on film, you really don't know until you see how they react on game day to a mirror image play. Most offensive formations are not like reinventing the wheel. So if you can run some plays you think will work that also help you see if your assessment of a negative tendency. It's not like anybody UT plays isn't going to have a myriad of folks combing over film. I would be very keen on using the initial script to affirm any negative defensive tendency to take advantage of later. Of course the Mike Tyson rule also applies, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." ALSO - I along with obviously so many had complete disgust with Greg Davis' overuse of the Bubble screen. I used to scream out from section 31, "Thank you Greg Davis" as the kids would trot off and the punt team would come on. I wanted to scream "fuck you!" But the "thank you " always drew giggle and laughing head shakes, so it worked. -
But if you were having fun at Steamboat 1874 you got to see a few good seasons between '77 and '99 and a few that you wish had gone by even quicker. I can't remember the two bartenders that lived next to me on Parker Lane, but it sure helped out the pocket book. Basically I view from here until the actual kickoff as what I call "the sweaty ball sack season."

Her comeback in the early MTV days was great to see. Literally a rising from the ashes like a Phoenix! I was more of a rocker, but I appreciated her amazing history, work ethic, and it was nice to see her come into her own on her own terms. Wife went and saw her in San Antonio in 2000 with some friends, and was so glad she did. PS - Fuck Ike Turner

What we honestly are looking for now is kids that can take some minutes to help keep the starters healthier over the course of the season. Now catastrophic injuries fuck everything, but having and extra kid to put into the mix to help supply at least somewhat dependable depth is the prescription I think Terry is looking for. We are not likely to pull any real potential greatness at this point in the portal. If we did it would likely be a head case, or Holland in the best case scenario, who might be a head case, who knows. But one more, just one more would help as the key to keeping your players healthy over the course of a long season is the ability and WILLINGNESS to sit them to keep them rested. Otherwise they may play through slightly nagging injuries that aggravate into something more. Rest, especially at the end of the season looking toward tournament time is crucial, and depth is the only way to get there. Plus as a coach the best thing you can do is get your new or transfer players more court time to gain experience so they can indeed spell or replace starters. But you need warm bodies. One more quality warm body would be helpful. It not install some height scanners set at 6'4" in all the workout facilities on Campus and find a kid. Give Brock Cunningham $10,000 to find the guy and he will find us some scrapper already on campus! (I can dream can't I?) -

Looks like there is at least some interest in Texas from North Carolina G Caleb Love. Jumped to Michigan in portal then decided not to, so he's in play. He would be a nice final piece to the puzzle. It us, Gonzaga and Arizona according to the Bleacher Report https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10077154-report-caleb-love-linked-to-texas-arizona-gonzaga-after-decommitting-from-michigan -

horn4life replied to horn4life's topic in Cloak Room
The reason is works is they do not care about causing a fiscal crisis, American workers losing jobs, stock market crashes or anything else. What they care about it trying to exercise the power of the minority as if it was the majority. Of course having a Republican in a popular presidential vote is now a pipe dream for the minority party. So it's gum up the works, Fuck up the economy, fuck up the supreme court and try, try, and try again to keep voters from gaining easy access to voting. Dems blink because they actually do give a shit about the country and working men and women. The good news for Republicans since are no longer any recognizable principals nor morals amoung Republican voters, elected Republicans know that there simply is no accountability. Just tell a lie... and they will lap it up. -
GOP pretend fiscal restraint, and fucking the US economy and 401K's
horn4life replied to horn4life's topic in Cloak Room
I wish that some reporter would simply ask. "You say the deficit spending is bad. Why then do Republicans never offset their deficit increasing tax cuts with spending reductions?" McCarthy would look like a deer in the headlights. -
Well here we are again. Another completely and totally disingenuous manufactured crisis, created by the same folks that ALWAYS add debt at a faster pace than their Democratic Satans. But the main thing about these manufactured debt crises is that the GOP does not give a shit about damaging the economy when there is a Democratic President. Republican President means borrow like crazy to pretend that massive tax cuts for mostly the wealthy do not have any impact on the deficit. Only spending from Democrats needs to be offset, tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires never, ever, ever need to be addressed by balances in spending. That is ONLY when there is a Democratic President. OF course how do you negotiate with a person who cannot deliver the votes? McCarthy simply pretends the GOP will pass something reasonable, but the reality is they will not. If the economy goes into the shitter and it's a Dem Pres? Who gives a fuck. So here we are, gonna need to scrub off a 700-1000 points off the dow. And simply because the GOP cannot bring a budget to the floor that will do anything except let folks know that the GOP is full of shit. So here we are. The same folks that don't give a damn about debt, pretending they care about the debt. This biggest difference this time is there is a large contingency of the GOP that will never vote for any compromise of any sort. So the Dems negotiate with the GOP, who cannot deliver. Then the GOP negotiates with itself and comes back to the table to renegotiate. Then return the GOP again negotiates with itself, then again returns to negotiate with Biden. What good is negotiating with somebody who 1) can't actually negotiate, beacuse 2) they can't deliver the votes on anything that has a potential for actual passage 3) In the end it will again be the Dems that have to save McCarthy, because 4) he can't do anything but whine and complain since he cannot deliver the votes. It really does suck having one of the parties being basically a group of children who honestly can't compromise and can't deliver votes.
