  1. PSA. - for you lowly non-fly folks! ;-). I was looking at replacement spinning reels and saw that Dicks has the Shimano Sedonas on sale for $39.99, which is basically half price. Pretty serviceable reel, especially for $40 instead of $80. So I got a 3000 and a 4000.
  2. Every time I think of the Cowboys I think of "Jerry's Kids." Then I wonder if aJerry Lewis if a telethon could have helped them out...
  3. I think with the embrace and resurgence of more open racism among my Republican friends since Trump has come on the scene makes the election of a black Republican as President, about the same as the actual representation currently of black republicans nationally. Of the 535 seats available in both the House and Senate the GOP's black representation is what 3 of 535? It's more a raise your profile and profit, no chance ever he is elected with an (R) next to his name. Not in 2028, not ever.
  4. I can generally say fuck off to most communications, but with my parents in their late 80's early 90's I just feel like I need emergency access. Also like Flattie Fattie I have become somewhat anal about the trailer in one specific area.... sand and grit on the floors. Gotta plan on giving the dog at least a decent bath after every day on the beach, and we could do that with the outdoor shower hose, but the path of least resistance has become going to IB MaGee. The fact it's about as close to being on the beach without being on the beach and fits 90% of our needs. But a long way from PINS. Maybe I'll get my buddy and do a kayak campout at the Bird Basin at Pins. I used to have an annual pass and went to PINS a lot when I was remodeling a house I had down in Flour Bluff. Just looked at Sandpiper webcam and surf is flat and green, with a very visible amount of sargassum pushing up against the beach. But that second cut.... (wistful dreams of singing line). One thing is certain. You will NOT find this fellow on any beach, lake or river in Texas on Memorial Day Weekend! Too many people with an extra dose of stupid people.
  5. PINS and beachfront camping was the reason I originally wanted an RV. Even scoped out some spots to turn around and park tucked into dunes. But we have been at IB MaGee most every time, for convenience and leaving the rig there for a month in October has been fantastic to bounce back and forth depending on the weather and tides. But next time I go down to Port A I'm going to do some recon on PINS again. But having cell/email really is a must and that's the hard part about PINS.
  6. The only thing that sucks about the coast is you really do need to do a good wash down to get all the salt and grit off everything. If you go Aransas Pass ferry route there is a killer carwash with large bay and spray guns on two sides in the first bay, located just to the left two blocks at the stoplight in Goliad, called Suddz. The second gun helps a lot with the back and forth. Another good RV wash find is on the way back up I-37 the exit past Lake Braunig and then make a U-turn and it's on the feeder. I don't think it has a name, but the best thing about it is that its a true truck wash with elevated walkways on both sides and allows you to hit the top as well. Downside is it's a true truck wash so you better spray the hell out of any brush you might want to use. I need to find something close to Austin with an elevated way to get to the roof. I also love me some PINS. I figured you did the N.Padre Turn before the Park gate. Did you drive down PINS at all or just hang? I'm sure on Pins the sargassum was stacked up, but I do like the steeper deeper cuts to fish. Wind and surf looked ripe this last week for pulling out a few trout.
  7. So you are on North Padre? That was my guess, with the direction of you Cell booster, and less flat beach. Humans suck... I wish there was a way to selectively scrape off the litters. It's such an asshole move. I always try to pitch for folks to simply pick up at least an extra bag of trash and haul it out. Wish I could design a virus to simply kill all the folks that litter after the third offense on the beach our in the waterways. Then I could only talk to nice folks and there would be a lot more room to surf fish. Have fun Troph!
  8. Yeah I remember Cool River up off Palmer... Pretty accurate with the "Cougar Unleashed." 😉
  9. One bad mofo! Rest in Peace.
  10. Well as I hoped (expected) Hunter moves us (or at least me) into the backslapping stage of Terry's first class of his own. Disu was the most important piece for me, as I think this extra year is gonna reap real NBA dividends for him assuming he stays healthy. I was a little surprised Hunter was testing the NBA waters, but figured honest evaluations would bring him back home. I can still dream of Mitchell returning, but right now I think backslapping and good bourbon is the order of the day. I am very curious to see what sort of kids Terry can reel in this next recruiting cycle. The main thing I thought after we hired Terry was that both the good and bad news would be that we would get a very quick at his recruiting ability because of the portal. We survived this cycle pretty damn well, especially considering everything Terry said to recruits the whole season was as an interim, without any actually ability to promise anything past the end of the season. Really hope this is the beginning of something great, or at least really, really good. But right now I am pretty damn happy with step one, a solid group of guys to start with.
  11. Also if you are older and you have not gotten the NEWER shingles vaccine, you are a moron. My Dad is now 92, about 2 years ago he had a car pull right in front of hime going about 45 mph. Destroyed his 4 month old Subaru, but the more modern safety features likely saved his life. He had 2 broken ribs on one side and 4 broken ribs on the other and a cracked sternum. He said that the recovery from that was actually easier than when he had shingles. He was lucky and the nastiness stayed away from his face and eyes. But ran down along the back of his leg and he battled the shit for months, and it incapacitated him. He would be feeling pretty good one minute and then lose all strength in his leg without warning and practically collapse. If it were me I might indeed just toss in the towel and resign. But as I point out above, even a completely senile Feinstein is on par mentally to Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville.
  12. So is it safe to say that even if she is totally Senile, her mental acuity is in line with that of Senator Tommy Tubberville?
  13. I think sort of the whole point is that there is no perfect way to handle this shit. The only certainty I think everyone has is that this scumbag should not be a teacher now or in the future. What mullet has to do is weigh the positive that said scumbag is no longer at his daughter's school, against what sort of additional levels of effort and potential bullying for his daughter might occur if he continues to press the issue? Or at least that's how I see it. It's like all parenting. You do the best you can, and pray you are making the right decisions.
  14. Total misread. I assume that every son or daughter is "Darling" because we all hold them so dear to us. Not as any aspersion towards your daughter. I also mention your "perception" as I was under the impression that you were concerned about the potential negatives that could be directed towards her to provide cover for the scumbag teacher. Mainly I assume in assorted types of bullying, that you indicate you think could be more intense in a smaller community. Maybe I misread your concerns here. Don't know why you leapt to such a bizarre conclusion as "she was asking for it?" When all I was trying to do was state that I thought the best way to prevent this guy from teaching anymore is through the school. In large part because is would protect your Darling Daughter. Again DD meant not as a sign of perfection or flawlessness, but of her intrinsic value as a young person worthy of protection.
  15. What's interesting to me is how successfully the lies are sold to Republicans. You can honestly bring up, "Hunter Biden's Laptop" and hear a stream of assertions. Ask them about the $2 Billion jared Kushner got from Saudi Arabia, and why has he kept secret his communications while representing the American people with Saudi Arabia... and the "I haven't heard about that/know about that/ or i'm not sure that's true" response. The GOP is very, very good a lies. I have no doubt that Hunter Biden has done some shady shit. But he sure as fuck did not get $2 billion from a Saudi Prince murderer days after leaving the Whitehouse. Not to mention the refusal to allow any light onto Jared's communications. The scale is monumental in Jared's case and a direct result of using your influence as a government official to secure $2 billion. As a bonus Trump gets LIV golf and helping gaslight a dismemberment murder is apparently good personal profit from government work. I am happy as fuck to talk about Hunter Biden having done some shady shit. But fuck Jared's actions aren't just shady, they are like a solar eclipse in corruption. But... "I haven't heard about that/know about that/ or i'm not sure that's true" is all you can get on an issue magnitudes larger than "Hunter Biden's Laptop." The sheep are so very, very easily fed.
  16. The bottom line is that the teacher should not be a teacher, IMHO. Saying "you're hot" to a 12 year old is only OK if you also are about 12 years old. As far as criminality, maybe, maybe not. But if "you're hot" isn't criminal (which alone likely isn't) having some sort of repercussion is what I think everyone here would prefer. Right now the school district has the greatest ability to place a true black mark on this teachers record. That is specifically why I suggested pressing the shit out of the school. Perhaps even threatening suit to push them in the right direction. It's a direction honestly that the district does not want to go because of expense and publicity, so you need to be the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Getting the police involved is a separate issue, and in a small town any presumption of anonymity after pressing the police to investigate would be foolish. And that brings in potential negatives for 12 y.o. darling daughter according to OP's perception. So there are both positives and negatives here. About the most you can expect from the police is a good scare at best unless there is a lot more evidence. But how does anyone know if there is not more evidence? Catch 22. And my faith in the police of solving or prosecuting anything difficult is about a 3.5 on a 10 point scale. And that may be way too high. I'll be interested to see if pressure on the school district can get the black mark we all want on this guys record. Right now that's the only way I see anything close to the outcome to prevent future situations like this or worse in the future.
  17. That's what she said...
  18. HaHa that was a bookend for me. I remember when I first saw the band setting up and Club Foot and thought "oh no, another bunch of fucking screamers" Then Billy Idol sang a couple and I was hooked. ACL was funny because the had to restart the song a couple times to get on pitch. But I feel his pain. I used to be able to hit every note of his in the early 80's, now I can hit about as many of those old highs as Billy can himself. But year especially hard to be a leather clad punk in the Texas heat, but put on a decent show for an old guy. Still better to see Billy shirtless than Iggy!
  19. I really wish Houstong would have picked up Duece Vaughn. Simply as a more positive representative of #2, than the historical Texans performance...
  20. Uhh... they are looking up answers to the shit they did not read, and finding calculations for the shit they do not know. In other words cheating like crazy, because they can and.... wait for it... "everyone does it Dad!" The one thing I understand is that kids "need" phones the older and more active they get. That phone is also the gateway to the worst exposure to shit you would like them to avoid. One truly double edged sword. But fight it was long as you can, and track the fuck out of their activity, and for heaven's sake keep it out of their bedroom at night. They can be great tools, but they are not being used as calculators on any fucking test. I honestly think the phones should all have to be locked up in lockers, but I would also allow some "communication breaks" to let kids communicate with their parents. For a single parent a phone is a necessity early IMHO. But back to scumbag coach. First off 12 years old is the edge of sexual awakening, and the last thing any daughter is gonna discuss with Dad is anything regarding sex. I coached multiple girls soccer teams for about a decade, and if the coach is not actively avoiding individual contact with any of the players outside of practice something is wrong. If only the incredibly poor judgement of the coach. What's going to happen here is that your pressing to have the coach's name included in the banned educators is a the ONLY way you are not reporting this to the police. The district does not want to litigate the matter, and the "resignation" leaves the door open to the reasons for the departure. District would rather simply appease you and put this behind them. Sort of like the Catholic church... Unfortunately. To avoid litigation. I would likely point out that unless you see the teaches name on the banned list you are also inclined to sue the school district while also getting the police involved. Now the problem for you is the "small town" aspects of this shit, in that connections and tribal nature are usually horrifically ingrained in the community, and said scumbag coach does have some folks firmly in his court. So there is plenty of opportunity still for this thing to blow back on your daughter, do not disregard this possibility! Especially if things seem ambiguous in the firing and the scumbag and his allies try to mount a campaign to rehabilitate his name. Only way to do that is likely to fuck over your daughter somehow to hurt her credibility. So your situation is different perhaps because of the small town nature. So my having no ambiguity from where my daughter could potentially be attacked might be my goal now. I think my line of questioning to the administration (beyond the principal) is can you insure he will not be teaching again? If the answer is not yes, then you need to go to the police. Tell them as much, and say it's concerning that the actions of the administration is simply to remove him from one school (parish) and allow him to move on to another school (parish). District is going to go the path of least resistance legally, you have to be the resistance to steer the outcome, IMHO.
  21. Dirty's was great, but Mad Dog and Beans was honestly something different that was a cut above. I used to get the Austin's favorite a burger on whole wheat, with sprouts and guac. Fucking fantastic, and their thick cut fries were the bomb. But more importantly there was no better seat for a male in all of Austin in springtime to view the beautiful co-eds. I would bury Dirty's 100 times, to be able to go back and sit down on a beautiful spring day like today and have one more Austin's Favorite in a good seat with a view...
  22. odd ball answer is try the VFW. But you would likely be Happy at StingRays on beach street as they are the "sports bar" in town. Decent food and multiple screens if you want the sports bar vibe. Blue Water Cowboy has a few screens, but my second choice might be Lelo's next to La Playa. I'm sure they would put have the game on and solid drinks and food.
  23. 1) Don't let them use a pacifier constantly. It becomes too much of a crutch and removing the crutch is tougher than you think! 2) Put off buying them a phone until as late as you can. They will hate you for this, but it's the smart/right thing to do. 3) Get her involved in youth sports! Girls who play youth sports generally have higher self esteem, and more importantly have better body image. Simply as playing sports she will see girls of different sizes and shapes, that help avoid believing the "perfect" bodies they see on their phones is reality. 4) Read, read, read and then read some more to them when they are little. This simple act will help carry them educationally and allow them explore the world better than any single thing you can do. 5) The single biggest gift you can give your daughter is the gift of your time. (see#3) So many parents are willing to spend any amount of money on their kids and their activities, but inevitably what their children crave is more of their time. In other words money is NOT a substitute for your time and affection! 6) Finally- tell her, "All guys are lying scumbags with sores on their weiners! And you are going to need a flashlight!" With that reading foundation, and a healthy fear of STD's you will likely be able to push back their sexual awakening to some degree. As well as let them understand they some guys will say anything to get into their pants. I have personally changed to path of several kids lives with this simple humorous question and answer. "Do you know what the key to your future is? Pause a second and then pound the table and say, "Condoms, condoms, condoms!" A friends' son was named in a paternity suit, and the son told his father, "I am not the father! I listened to horn4life!" Humor is a great way to tell kids truth about sex in a way that sticks in their brains, but opens the door to thinking about uncomfortable subjects more openly. Lastly, good luck! And enjoy the ride, knowing it's not always going to be fun and she is gonna be a crazy bitch as a teenager in all likelihood. But that will pass... just stay the course. Also realize you are not perfect and will make mistakes, you hope they are little mistakes.
  24. IF I lived in San Antonio I would be down at the coast every other weekend. The one thing that is really starting to push in San Antonio that reminds me of Houston is the infill is starting to happen. SA is like Houston 20 years ago. Gone out and out and out with the suburbs to now New Braunfels is the edge of SA commuting traffic. I don't think there is as much loose money in SA as in Houston so it may take a little longer, but redevelopment downtown is already starting to rage. I was born and raised in Houston, and wife in SA before a teenage Austin move. I think if I was forced to move to another big city San Antonio would be top of my list. I would find the place I liked with the best Margaritas a reasonable distance from my house and probably do a lot of what we do now, at new and different dining establishments. But if I were moving there now I would be trying to get into South Alamo Heights if I had kids, or maybe south of that with the idea of buying something that would need a remodel. Or ability to add on another unit in the best case scenario, as I think it's only going to get hotter in R.E. closer in as the burbs have gone out about as far as they can.
  25. McCarthy really, really, really, needed this scumbags vote or he would not today be Speaker. That's a pretty fucking sad commentary on what the GOP elected congressional representatives have devolved into.
