  1. Biggest difference between Houston and SA is that in Houston you have to learn to drive fast if you are going to be in the inside lane on the freeway. In SA... not so much. But SA does have Puffy Tacos!
  2. I am excited about J.Witt having one hell of a season and hopefully getting a chance to make a check in the NFL. Mainly I am praying that the young man can remain healthy for an entire season. I think the little bit of weight loss helps his speed a hair, and you can never fault the kid in his tenacity in getting those yards after catch. Really, really hoping that he can actually have a fantastic time and simply enjoy his last season at UT. Instead of worrying about rehab and recovery as has been a key part of his his focus most seasons. Rooting for you!!!
  3. I mainly picked Mi Mexico because of the solid reviews Taqueria Mi Mexico because there gas station next to it is closed and is a perfect place for me to pull off and hop right back on the road when pulling our Travel Trailer. Still jonesing for those homemade tortillas. Actually this taco talk this reminds me of a conversation I had with a DPS trooper I became friendly with after Harvey. I was helping a buddy with severe back issues, let contractors into his place to give repair bids on the Harvey flood damage. I was about the only guy fishing on the beach in Port A, and twice the trooper came up and I happened to hook up was he drove up. We became friendly and he told me a funny story about he and his wife's retirement plans. His plan was to tape a tortilla onto their truck's antenna and drive north. When somebody stopped him and asked what that thing was taped to his antenna, they would stop, put down roots and open a taco shack! Pretty funny and nice guy, hope he is doing well.

    Austin FC

Ring basically got beat out, and is playing off the bench for the most part is my understanding. It's going to be interesting to see the support if we can't start putting some W's on the board. Hell FC tickets have arguably been the most sought after tickets in the city of late. Funny how winning does that! Conversely will support wane if we continue this level of play? Austin is definitely a soccer town and I have a feeling the seats will mostly just convert to folks who want to go, as rich and corporate seat folks start coming late, or skipping the games entirely. As I think there is still plenty of demand. Hope we can right the ship, but damn this shit reminds me of my years playing with Austin United oh so long ago. Back when it was really important that we eat at Chuy's after games to make sure they would stay in business! About the only games we won were 1-0. As we simply had to pitch a shutout to try and turn our anemic offense into a victory. In a weird way as bad a Druissi being hurt is, he hasn't honestly been pulling his weight. Maybe he's been tweaked in the groin this whole time, but we need to find somebody, anybody who can place the ball on frame with a greater degree of consistency. Right now we seem to be more playing for ties more than victories.
  5. I think there is also an asterisk next to Terry's name in that scenario, because it was "Beard's team." A fair argument to be certain. That's why I think RGBIII is so concerned about losing Holland, as it's a loss no matter how you paint it or justify it. Retaining Holland was important perceptually, and perception is reality in recruiting. Terry needs to win. Without wins it does not matter what situation he was hired in, nor how far we went in this years tournament. He needs to win with HIS guys. He's gonna have that asterisk in a lot of fans and players minds until he wins at Texas with his own crew. I don't think you can really compare Musselman and Terry in that Terry isn't remotely the self-promoter that Musselman is. But I think Terry is a team builder. Now it's up to him to get the players he needs to win, whether one and dones, or in the portal. It's also a new landscape that may not be a conducive to the "family/team" recruiting style I sense he would prefer. Bottom line he needs to get another quality player in the fold to have the sort of depth he's gonna need to be able to get close to last years performance. And I think for a lot of folks he's gonna need to get close to remove that asterisk from their mind.
  6. Incredibly sad news to hear. I sort of view Lance Blanks as the "Godfather" of Texas basketball. He was exactly the sort of human being you felt proud to be associated with as an alumni of The University of Texas. Prayers to his family and those close that truly feel the loss.
  7. I think you could potentially beat Cruz. If I were running a PAC I think I could do a pretty decent ad showing Trump calling his wife ugly, cut to sniveling coward, cut to Trump dick sucking. Along with a quick cutaway of his trip to Cancun during the freeze out, and close with something like "a man committed to sort of sometimes acting brave." A funny way to say coward. Or maybe just say... What is the opposite of brave? That's Ted Cruz!
  8. I honestly do not know what Holland's deal is/was. If Terry got beat out for not outright lying to a kid about playing time then I can't fault Terry. Holland didn't decommit until we started making a little headway in the portal. The problem is you are ultimately dealing with kids. Very talented kids, but still kids. And Kids are simply easily influenced. I remember losing my best player on the select soccer team I coached. I had recently repositioned her to an attacking mid to give her more touches, and a chance to greater influence play. She viewed it as a demotion and was uncomfortable with the switch., The coaches from that lured her away promised her a return to her prior position on the left wing. Of course funny thing was, they eventually learned what I already knew, and they ended up putting her in the same position I was trying to switch her into. Because I was right all along, and they simply lied to her to hurt my team and help theirs. I understood why they did what they did, but I was never ever going to be a coach who was going to lie to a kid to keep them in the fold. Nor put players in positions that were not best for my team. In other words you cannot let the inmates run the prison. So if a kid WANTS to believe the lies there is not much an honest coach can do. Again not sure what Holland's needs, desires, promises were or were not. I just do know that there are a LOT of coaches who want to win and honestly do not give much of a shit about the players. Lying is just part of their process. What the portal does do interesting is allow a much greater movement among the same kids that have been lied to or simply do not like the way things have shaken out. It's going to be harder and harder to hang onto the very talented kids who simply do not want to wait for playing time, that are unable to push the starter off the court. I still think that players still want a sense of "family." But I also think that Basketball for a very long time has been the most fickle and most bottom line of all the sports. Simply because of the potential of a high school kid to make bank. LeBron James became the dream scenario model for every high school player who believes they have NBA level talent. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens. I hate like hell to loose Holland, but if the only way to get a kid is to lie to them? I don't see Terry as that sort of coach. And with the flexibility the portal gives kids, lying about playing time or anything else is simply a one year experiment doomed to another year of portal movement.
  9. So how do you grade Terry so far? The one thing we knew was that the portal has truly changed the landscape of college basketball, with the unprecedented flexibility amid the NIL ATM wars. I said way, way back when that the most important player to recruit was Disu. I also didn't see us losing both incoming freshmen, but figured we would lose one. Morris was certainly a loss as well, but there is that asterisk with his impending court date, that might have more influence that we know. The shakeout is not complete with Mitchell and Hunter half gone, but with some optimism here as well, as reasonable evaluations, make the return of both a real possibility. But you have to like the pieces Terry has plugged in to fill the gaps. Especially when he only had a couple weeks of officially being the head coach to bolster his words when recruiting. Look at the exodus from Bill Self's Kansas, and you can see that every spring is going to from here on out be a bigger reshuffling of the deck than we have ever seen before. But right now the team looks capable, and the fears that some had early on have subsided. I don't know if we are at the back slapping and congratulations stage. But if we can get one out of Mitchell or Hunter back, I would feel pretty close. Get them both to return and I think we are certainly in the backslapping range. But right now I am pretty darn happy with what Terry has cobbled together. This recruiting season sort of reminds me of the team last season when there was a shit ton of controversy and adversity and we came through kicking ass. I also am very well aware it could have gone just as easily right down the rat hole. (which a lot of people underplay IMHO). This recruiting season seems very similar. I think if Terry can come through doing well this season it will only boost his bonafides going forward. Which should make recruiting easier next season, if still wildly unpredictable.
  10. One new place I discovered was Taqueria Mi Mexico in Aransas Pass on the way back if you take the ferry. Called them as we boarded the ferry and picked them up on way out. Homemade tortillas were the bomb for breakfast tacos. Was starting to get a lunch push at 11 am on a Monday so I am assuming the food beyond the breakfast tacos is solid as well, but mainly good for timing with a fast pit stop coming off the ferry.
  11. Since you are buying the battery. If the battery dies again it's the regulator (often inside the alternator). What happens sometimes is the regulator does not adjust to the additional load from night driving when you have the lights, wipers, whatever putting on the additional load. Alternator puts out the 14 amps normally but dips when under load, maybe down to 12 amps which is not enough to fully recharge the battery. So test the output then turn on the lights, A/C, wipers, and hit the brakes. The load will always drop for a second but the regulator should adjust the amperage in the alternator back up to the 14+ amps you need to properly charge. On the squeak, a lot of times the tensioner is the culprit. A quick cheat I have used is to take a spray bottle and spray the tensioner with some water when you can hear the offending squeak. Oftentimes that little bit of water helps the failing bearings enough to stop the squeak for a few seconds or minutes. Cheap lazy way to check that particular problem out.
  12. The good news is that if Texas can finally win the Big 12 again then we make it into the BCS. So let's just finish off this final Big 12 season in style, and cap it off with another championship. One final Big 12 Championship hat... the kind we don't have a large enough collection of. I would like to book another memory like that initial win over the Huskers made me feel... Might even stand in line again at Academy just for the camaraderie.
  13. Reagan could have done his job sitting in depends and never leaving the residence, to be fair.
  14. I think the best way is to let the voters decide. Period. But I will also say that Ronald Reagan wasn't as in touch as he was previously in his second term, and she's where Reagan was most of his second term.
  15. I've had a couple winner ideas but as has been said ideas are almost the easy part. I actually had an idea years ago from memories of the grackle battles at UT decades ago, to deter roosting. Seems that the folks in the market that were the most likely consumers were commercial buildings and car lot owners. Folks most willing to pay (or already paying) to deal with bird shit. Technology was not available in small enough and affordable to execute the idea. But maybe I spend a couple hundred and see if I can prove my concept via some prototypes. How much value is there is getting rid of roosting birds to an individual? I have no idea. But car dealers already contract to have their cars cleaned. I can't imagine trying to sell anything, to anyone, that I didn't have a working prototype for. That's sort of the first step of execution necessary to an ideas success isn't it? Otherwise you are just another genius with a cleaner presentation than the original cocktail napkin. You know the guys who invented the Power Pole for boats knew they had something as soon as their prototype began to work properly. power pole inventor https://www.bassmaster.com/news/power-pole-a-story-of-success/
  16. Not much seaweed Wed/Thurs, but wind and tides brought in some on Friday. Then Blue Norther wailed and the seaweed was blown out. I assume it's going to be coming in as soon as the prevailing winds start pushing it. Yeah dolphin... or dolphin.
  17. That would have been fun to see them offload! Well the spotty weather evened up being pretty damn nice, with a one day interruption of very high winds. Then the heavens bestowed a beautiful day at the beach on Sunday... always stay Sunday! Front rolling through Friday night provided a hell of a light show. But like my buddy said when we were debating coming down, 50% chance of rain, means 50% chance we will be sitting on the beach. Did the usual Kody's and La Playa, but I sure do miss Giggity's. Being able to stay late at the beach until long after dark and still get a good meal, along with some people watching (zoo observation) is something that cannot be replaced. Giggity's I still morn you. The good news is Shorty's look like it will be pretty nice once it's put together. and will be a nice addition to the beach street "entertainment district." Sunday was gorgeous as you can see. Water was super clear! I drove up onto a group of folks sharing morning coffee on the beach and pointed out to the surf asking if they had seen the Porpoise in the Surf? The whirled around and were just trilled to see the porpoise working along with the birds out past the breakers. They were so excited it probably made their day. And a beautiful day it was!
  18. Guess I am gonna go down even with sketchy weather, and high tides. Worst case scenario weather sucks and I eat at La Playa every night! And toss in some Kody's Garlic fish. Actually the real worst case scenario is my buddy is going to force me to go into Grumbles and tell him this Pina Colada he likes is good. Really not wanting to break the seal on my self imposed protest exile, but the arm is gonna get twisted.
  19. Just a couple more and like Burt Macklin said- it helps bolster Terry's reputability going forward. The only concern I had on Terry was could he sell when he was "the guy." All signs pointed to this as a likelihood, but you never know and the Portal is a new X factor that makes things even more fluid. Like I said a while back, the good news is we are going to get a quick report card on Terry. Having an early exodus was/is especially scary, but if the recent rumors and press are true on Abmas then we have made great strides which also increases Terry's reputation. Just a couple more pieces! Please, please, please!
  20. Fuck... that's completely possible. But Tucker is too much of a money whore. And you can't have two money whores on the same ticket! Not enough cash to go around...
  21. I haven't gotten into a political discussion at a bar in quite a while now. Simply as there is no reason to have a discussion (argument) when the person you are trying to talk to only watches Fox News and thus doesn't know a lot of factual information. Because when you try to present the actual factual information you are met with... "I don't know about that." I haven't heard that." "I don't believe that." And on and and on. I have decided now at the outset if some dumbass wants to try to talk politics with me, I am simply going to ask, "Are you a Fox News watcher?" Then when they say yes, I will simply say, "Honestly I would love to engage you and have a discussion. But I simply do not have time to educate you on the factual information necessary to have a reasonable conversation." You see it's impossible to constructively argue anything when one party simply does not know what the factual information being discussed is.
  22. I honestly think he could be the beginning of something positive happening in Houston. Of course that won't happen. And yes it is true that the words Houston and NFL when combined together mean everlasting emotional pain...
  23. Welcome aboard Big Shed! I think you are gonna have a lot of fun next season! Enjoy the Tacos! 😉
  24. IMHO The biggest get that Terry has booked so far is Disu. As I think his return does a couple things. It shows other players that he believed that another year at Texas with Terry is his best chance of punching an NBA ticket. It also give Hunter another "return data point" on a teammate that probably had a similar NBA draft prediction outcome returning. I think just like I thought for Disu, another year in development and raising his game would be better for Hunter. But who knows there? Shedrick was a big get to be sure. As the collective Longhorn nation was about to pass out from holding our collective breath hoping for some good news. Get Holland on campus, get Abmas in the fold and have Hunter return? You have a nice core group right there that could do well if they can all stay healthy. One thing I think that Terry did down the stretch is he did cut some of the minutes for his starters when he could looking ahead to tournament time. But that also illustrates the need for a couple more key pieces, especially if Hunter does not return. Hunter's returning would cure a lot of ills. Anyhow have to like the way things are unfolding, despite the lack of positive info on the internet building to a level of near panic as the exodus list became the only news. Like I said a few weeks back, hopefully we are are all grins and backslapping each other over next years roster when all the dust settles. So far Terry looks like he is a piece or two away from having at least the pieces on paper to again have us watching BB later in March than we have become accustomed to!
  25. My dream scenario would be to trade down and and find a way to get an edge rusher and Bijan. And maybe get a an extra second rounder for dropping down a spot or two. QB is a need for sure for the Texans, but I think with the addition of Bijan and an edge rusher would help the team as much as a rookie QB. Anyhow the good news is I am expecting the team to drop a deuce. But maybe I will re-watch "Draft Day" to see how a smart GM in an imaginary world would make my dreams come true... 😉 I think you might be able to pick up a capable but not earth shattering QB like the Stanford kid in the second round who could look pretty good with Bijan's legs and HANDS!
