So the Governor, and all of law enforcement, is gonna simply hide behind the stack of a dead elementary school children and refuse to allow the parents of dead children, and citizens who pay their salaries the truth? Funny how the fucks that continually give lip service to personal accountability and responsibility, refuse to even allow the truth to be known, for fear of taking any fucking responsibility. What fucking cowards.

Hell all Manning need do is win. No amount of manager "brand building" on instagram can add up to the brand building of getting Texas "back." There will be a tsunami of positive publicity, and an indelible brand will be built. All it takes is winning. Typing shit on insta, is just some sort of foreplay. -
NO! They actively look away! Then retrench in ideals they do not believe in at all. Like using tax dollars for the treatment of mental illness. Much better to live in a pretend world where you can find kooky "news" to support whatever your non-fact based viewpoint is. Hopes and prayers, and run out the clock. Rinse, wash, repeat.

All you need to know about Republicans and gun facts, is they PROHIBIT the use of federal dollars to even STUDY gun violence. No studies, no facts! So Abbott and company are hiding and there are a stack of dead children whose parents want answers. Usually the tell a huge fucking lie strategy works for the GOP. THey tried that at Uvalde, did the usual allocation of blame to anyone but law enforcement, and now obfuscating any factual information past inaccurate press conferences weeks ago? Good new is Senator John Cornyn "got tired" of negotiating, predictably. Why is it the party that always preaches personal responsibility, is always dead set again ever stepping up and taking any?
-
I actually used the think that Cornyn was actually one of the lesser evils. When it was him and Dewhurst, then Lyin' Ted comes in riding the lies of the Tea Party and since that seat went even more extreme, Cornyn still is one of the lesser evils. HE like nearly every federally elected Republican has proven themselves to be completely devoid of morals or patriotism. But I did have hope for him, as he did sort of seem principled at one point. When it comes to Sugar Mamas, nobody but nobody can hold a candle to Micheal McCaul. If you dug at all deep into that relationship you would realize that there are some serious blackmail vulnerabilities. Or at least that was the case a couple years ago.

I think it's important to look back at some of the key enablers like Mark Meadows, they were part of the tea party that rose to power on... you guessed it a LIE! You see Obama was going to have "death panels' where old folks would have their deaths decided by a government bureaucracy!!! (worked great for old white folks) Those folks came to power corruptly, no matter how many bible verses they slung around. Now there is a completely new wave of Republicans trying to ride a lie to power. Think every fucking non-incumbent running in the Republican Party on any federal ticket is a "Big Lie" supporter. But it's a lot more fucking dangerous at the State level where immediate power over elections, and a willingness to tell ANY LIE for power make is terrifying to me. The GOP is actively working to try and limit democracy in the United States.. only to races they win. -
Learn me on a car lease for my kid????
horn4life replied to horn4life's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
yeah... you do... but not as much! thanks for the replies. I probably should have clarified on the $8k and buying used cars. IF the used car market were such that I thought I could get a great deal I would for sure go that route. But she's 22 and after not caring so much about school in on her way in nursing. $5000 of the $8000 was offered by my dad just to bite the bullet, and get her a vehicle that I don't have to worry about. We travel more, and I am not always "up the road" to fix whatever might be going wrong. Plus she want to be a traveling nurse for a few years and this, and this car would be good for anywhere and it's safe. My 90 year old Dad T-boned an idiot and it probably saved his life, so he wanted to put some of the cash set aside for her into this car if she/I wanted. I do realize that I am setting her up for a couple extra years of likely payments. However, she's already got an externship at Austin Heart Hospital, and is gonna still work aa REI. She loves the perks. She has this Fall semester to become an RN, then will start the BSN program will be over for a month by this time 2024. She will make decent money as an RN as she gains work experience and the lower payment will be easy for her to cover at that point. In fact, she's so independent that I doubt I will make more than a payment or two a year if I go the lease route. I WILL get banged on the Insurance side, but not having to worry about her car breaking down while we are traveling, and knowing it's a safe car that will be worth more than she owes in 3 years seems worth it. We are really only out of pocket $3,000 and whatever the extra monthly nut is on the insurance. When I sell her car I will recover some of that small cost. ANYONE know about what might be typical of what your or I might think is "normal wear and tear" that might be viewed as excessive? I am just trying to think 3 years ahead when a possible lease return might happen. Having never returned a lease car I have no fucking idea. But don't want her to make the decision to return and find out there are $3,000 in charges for excessive wear that I would have thought were "normal wear and tear." Thanks again! -

Isn't really the only drawback that if in the sun the turf gets a lot hotter than grass? I did a ton of research on putting in some turn fields out at T&C years ago, as water was our biggest expense, and found that they actually throw off a lot of heat. The new products are better looking for sure, but doesn't plastic heat up more than organic matter? The good thing with the Dogs is durability. The bad thing is the temp of the surface for their pads 20-50% hotter. So if there is a lot of sun and the Dogs are outside a lot... "Surface temperatures of artificial grass are about 20-50° F higher than natural grass and typically reach the same temperature as asphalt pavement. The highest temperature measured during research was 200° F. Wow!" link

Basically want to get my daughter (no pics) a Subaru, and want to keep the payment low and flexibility high. I was going to just buy it, but I am thinking that 3 years from now, she might want something different. I will probably still buy the car with the option, but let's assume I am going to return her car, because that is where my questions lie, having never leased. My dad was actually the one who suggested it initially, after he leased a Subaru. My Daughter has been working at REI since she was 16 and Subarus are pretty popular with the REI crowd. What is extra cool is REI has an MSRP employee discount program, so she's getting about $1500 off MSRP at Austin Subaru. If you are looking to buy or lease yourself, my Dad bought in Georgetown. They were selling as MSRP whereas every other dealer was adding $1500. So my daughter's car is about $3K less than a normal customer buying from Austin Subaru. So what are the CONS of a lease return? Pros for me are low monthly payments, no sales tax, and flexibility with the option of returning the car if there is something else she wants once she is making some money. The math sort of goes like this $18K residual value on $29.5K car, with $8K down. Payment would be low $200's for 36 months, which is easily manageable for her most months and no problem to cover is she every runs short on cash. Versus with tax a purchase would be like $390 over $60 months, which I would be fine with and I would split the note with for the next two years until she graduates with her nursing Degree. Not paying the $1900 up front in sales tax is like 9 months of lease payments, so the lease option is attractive. Since she is buying basically $3k or 10% under market value (discount + extra dealer markup) I figure the lease return price should not be underwater with the $8K down. My Dad said the Finance Guy will ask you about wheel insurance and whatnot. The kid has a big ass Golden Retriever that is going to likely do some damage to the interior or scuff the plastic door trim. Seat covers should protect the upholstery. I know that the lease covers "normal wear and tear" but WTF does that mean? If I have any rash on the aluminum wheel is that $500 to replace it? Scratches on interior door panel? Just not sure what the potential liabilities might lie if we for some unlikely reason did decide to return the lease rather than buy it. Just want to know how the car dealer is gonna try to screw me in the end? Or is my basic distrust of car dealers and salesmen making me worry too much on the back end? Thanks in advance folks!

With penalties and interest, this is gonna sting... It's possible you might be able to negotiate a reduction of penalties.

FInally got covid and this shit is contagious! And Vastly, vastly, vastly underreported. I would estimate that for every positive text the healthcare system says have tested positive, I would bet the number is double if not triple, that now rising infection rate. I have been going out to Bars and Restaurants from hours before the shutdown, to days after the reopening. Never got the Bug even after a tone of SXSW concerts and whatnot. I know my undoing. Ironically caused by the Covid my sister caught on her Memorial Day week travels. So she gave me tix to see Herb Alpert at the Paramount. I'm not normally a big music Paramount guy because I like to move around and party at concerts. But she gifted me the seats and the wife and I went. I remember the guy next to me dab his nose about a minute after I sat down, and thought, "damn it I better not get covid." As I was heading to float the Comal (plug for The Other Place) for our renewed annual trip after a covid 2 year break. 3 days later I felt a little off and a day later tested positive. Low grade fever and light cold symptom, barely runny nose and just sort of a sinus head pressure behind the eys and forehead, along with overall dull headache. Ultimately I got 6 people sick over the weekend at the River. But what is so fascinating to me is how varied the responses are. Wife sniffles, scratchy throat, but no fever. SIL, and his Mom same symptoms as me light. Youngest Daughter testing today, but will be positive with symptoms like wife. Interesting my older adult daughter had it the worst, 101+ fever, and basic body aches and flu like symptoms. Everyone was vaccinated and had a single booster. Only two of the 7 positive tests would be noted in any rising Covid infection count. With so many at home tests out there, I would be surprised if even a third of the folks who have actually tested positive make it into the official infection counts. SO... either go get a second booster, or assume you are going to have covid in the next 6 weeks. I guess on the bright side I lasted the same amount of time as Anthony Fauci, and I know I had a lot more fun. -

So the GOP LEADERSHIP currently elected, completely and totally lied about the tours. Well after knowing they were caught lying, I think they did come back with "did not enter the tunnels" or some other non-substantive denial. I wish there was audio of the pointing and directions the rep was giving the recon team! -
I fucking loved that game. Mainly because I LOVED playing games like that in my youth. 3/4 inch metal studs on washers on the heels and half inch studs in the front. Knowing you are going to get completely soaked and it will truly be survival of the fittest. The thing I hated about "mudders" is when there it is pouring and there are puddles the ball will often catch in the water making passing consistency extremely difficult. Honestly El Salvador played better early than the US. They were using longer balls hoping for the inconsistency of the pitch to help create opportunities. The same puddle that can stop a pass, can also cause a powerfully driven long ball to skip off that same puddle and past you. We were lucky early honestly that the early opportunities they created did not result in an early goal, IMHO. Ref let the game get a bit out of control as he allowed the constant slight fouls by El Salvador slide (pun intended) and predictably the fouls increased in intensity. I can see how the Arriola red card was given (see my 3/4 studs above) but given some of the non-yellow for prior fouls I would have expected a yellow with a harsh warning that next foul and you are gone. But it's fair to argue that his cleats were up, and that alone was enough for the red. The clear prevention by foul of scoring opportunity, when we finally used a bit more long ball, was a clear red for El Salvador. The game did remind me so much of my youth with the incessant whining, and protests of every call, while you are constantly fouling the opposition. I was totally with Alexi Lalas, that the US should not whine about field conditions, weather or fucking anything related to the playing conditions. I think his words were, "suck it up buttercup" and "oh... your uniforms got dirty." Playing in shit weather is all part of soccer. Learning to play on shitty pitches is just part of the process. You need to revel in the shitty conditions. If you don't want to make 12 foot long sliding tackles to keep your uniform clean, or keep mud out of your face, pick another fucking sport! Overall nice comeback effort, and a tip of the hat to the El Salvador keeper, he was amazing, and nearly, nearly gave his team victory.

If you want to see the GOP game plan to create Chaos for future elections... GOP commission refuses to certify election results because of... the use of Dominion voting machines. "The commission's members include Cowboys for Trump co-founder Couy Griffin, who ascribes to unsubstantiated claims that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Griffin was convicted of illegally entering restricted U.S. Capitol grounds — though not the building — amid the riots on Jan. 6, 2021, and is scheduled for sentencing later this month. He acknowledged that the standoff over this primary could delay the outcome of local election races." THIS is how the GOP is going to try to prevent democracy county by county in 2022. -

Electoral College founding Fathers constitutional convention Electoral College: A System Born of Compromise At the time of the Philadelphia convention, no other country in the world directly elected its chief executive, so the delegates were wading into uncharted territory. Further complicating the task was a deep-rooted distrust of executive power. After all, the fledgling nation had just fought its way out from under a tyrannical king and overreaching colonial governors. They didn’t want another despot on their hands. One group of delegates felt strongly that Congress shouldn’t have anything to do with picking the president. Too much opportunity for chummy corruption between the executive and legislative branches. Another camp was dead set against letting the people elect the president by a straight popular vote. First, they thought 18th-century voters lacked the resources to be fully informed about the candidates, especially in rural outposts. Second, they feared a headstrong “democratic mob” steering the country astray. And third, a populist president appealing directly to the people could command dangerous amounts of power. Out of those drawn-out debates came a compromise based on the idea of electoral intermediaries. These intermediaries wouldn’t be picked by Congress or elected by the people. Instead, the states would each appoint independent “electors” who would cast the actual ballots for the presidency. Sort of interesting to me that one of the main reasons for the electoral college has had the exact opposite effect as intended. As with greater and greater percentages of populations in fewer states the rural states where they feared the uninformed grew in electoral power. -

Odds are if there are more than 10 people there at Father's Day and you all take covid tests I would almost bet you get at least one positive. I am sitting at home right now with covid, but it's mild like a cold. But extremely contagious. Me, wife, daughter from out of town, and TBD since I tested positive Sunday. So maybe you won't have to fake at all! If you nose is runny, maybe give it a little wipe before the handshake with the FIL. (JUST KIDDING!!!) -

What I think is most fascinating about the January 6th Committees investigation and finding of fact, is that nearly every single Republican you know will have avoided watching it, and would ALWAYS prefer to believe a LIE than to believe an actual truth that goes against their delusion based reality. Nothing is going to change that. And that is fucking scary as shit. Republicans now largely do not have a basis of fact to base decision making on. They avoid facts, and instead prefer endless "what about" musings based on non-fact based falsehoods. I wish as a whole rank and file Republicans had a better grasp of history. Because for those of us that were fascinated as kids about WWII and the origins, the ability to suspend reality, and find false grievances to rally around. That's exactly how a former German elected official, became a dictator. The similarities in the US today among a certain demographic of our country are scary to me. They will believe almost any falsehood. And that can be very, very dangerous to a Democracy.- 4751 replies

First off if you are spaced starved it's stupid not to make the master a shower and the secondary bath a tub bath for bathing the kiddos. I do not believe that we every, every bathed a child in our master bath. And yes right now everything is fucking expensive. For me the hardest part is the decision making as far the fixtures go. As sometimes what you think you want, ends up maybe not being what you wish you bought. If it were me I might try to get some cost breakdowns for demo and then reconstruction. I will also say that when things are expensive (especially labor) less experienced contractors are often the ones most available. In other words you really need to make sure your contractor knows WTF they are doing. Lots of HGTV on shit contracctors taking the cash. If you have pier and beam moving plumbing is usually pretty damn simple. For example: if you convert a tub to a shower you will need to have a 2 inch drain pipe with P trap, and add a vent to the drain. Your existing Tub's vent is the overflow drain, which I did not know until I tore into it and did some research.. I got a quote of like $1200 to tear into the slab and do the ventwork and P-trap. It's basically a lot of slab cracking in my case. I always like to try and get the demo price broken out. As damn near anyone can tear shit apart if they are physically able. My thinking is that whatever money I can save with can be pushed into better materials that add more value. Good Luck! +++Visually a shower enclosure in the master will look like a "real" remodel. And will give you the illusion of more space because of the more open vertical height. MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!! Pick large tiles, not smaller tiles. Larger tiles like 24 x 24 or 24 x 18 will make the space seem much larger than a smaller 12 x 12 or 18 x 18. Big tiles on shower enclosure also give the illusion of more space.
