The best part of this time of year for me is seeing bands on the rise in smaller more intimate venues. Here is a cut and paste of some of my google doc on lineups and times. Here are a couple secrets- 1) Most if not all of the bands play multiple shows, you can often find an official semi-headliner at another venue at a time that is not 10pm or later 2) Be flexible, especially if you are going on Friday, Sat or Sunday. Places get packed and having an alternative plan is wise. 3) Bring a cooler in your trunk and put some water, booze and a sandwich or snacks in it. Since I tend to do SOCO, I also buy some white foam cups to make mixed drinks in so I can carry them on the street and sometimes into SXSJ stealthily. I usually freeze a couple waters to sue as supplemental ice and frigid cold hydration. My normal rotation is SXSJ and and open a tab at Continental Club that I let them close adding a 20% tip at the end of the night. My yard dog rotations is now defunct, but I am going to spend more time and Lucy's for sure this year. We normally start seeing stuff today, and are pretty exhausted by Friday, with a revival of some sort on Sunday. The Hotel Vegas has a shit ton of bands and a few really good ones, but the size is a bit on the smaller side and as was mentioned above I imagine packed is an understatement.

China - Policy and Power in a During/Post Ukrainian War Era?
horn4life replied to horn4life's topic in Cloak Room
Well apparently nobody else shares my curiosity about what path China takes after this world order disruption. I feel like I wrote an essay on geometry for world history... 😉 -
My old joke was that you need TWO KIDS! Mainly so your odds are better off potentially having one of them come turn you in the nursing home one day. You have just one, they might just say "fuck it" call me when its over. Dark... but darkly true. I also think that women always want kids more than men. Men want the freedom, women like the stability. It's always been that way since the beginning of time. I think the main thing is to understand that having kids... is almost exactly like being married. If you are having kids to check a perceived box on facebook, then you will be a very shitty parent, and please I beg you, do not procreate. The other thing that is important to know that there are no guarantees in life, and this is especially true in children. You pray that they are healthy. You pray they stay safe. You pray they make good choices. Hope, after hope, after hope, for their well being. It helps a lot if you have family that can give you some mental support. Our first had severe colic, and no lie, I did not sleep more than maybe 2-1/ hours at a stretch for nearly 6 weeks before I begged my father to come spend two nights and let me get a couple straight house of sleep. My field of vision was actually starting to slightly close from fatigue. She's the most successful and kind kid a parent could wish for. But she was hell at first. She was so scary plans for 3 went to plans for 2 and a larger gap in between. Second one was much easier early and much more difficult after that. But she too is finding her way and a lot of here issues were due to us not realizing her issues because she was performing so well despite struggling. Bad parents did not get ADHD/ Dyslexia diagnosis until middle of junior year. Having a near perfect sister was also a burden I would not wish upon any child. I know that for my wife and I NOT having children would have only been the case had we not been able to have kids. I of course (as the guy) was not saying, "hey honey lets stop happy hours, weekend soccer games, and traveling and pop out a few puppies!" She wanted them sooner but I put her through college and Pharmacy school so it was a choice of education or school. I don't think she (we) could have survived both. There is no doubt that your life completely and permanently changes because you now truly hold the life of another in your hands. You love them more than anything, and burn inside wanting the absolute best for them. For us it was the best thing that ever happened to us.

In a during/post Ukrainian Russia war, how do you think the Chinese interpret and try to capitalize on the new world we are in today? China IMHO is actually in a very good position if they can somehow be seen as the negotiator to ending the mess Putin has found himself in. But I think it foolish to think that China was unaware of what Putin was about to do during the Olympics. That could also potentially be an aspect of aligning with Putin publicly to allow them to try to gain favor with the propaganda of a good Olympics and good TV ratings. Sort of a "see we are not so bad" tv show, that would be wrecked by an earlier Putin attack. I might argue that the delay after coming into position so early during the Olympics stretched their supply chain and allowed greater fortifying and planned resistance. So to me the Chinese clearly got the better end of the bargain. Now will they try to soften the financial blow for Russia and risk potentially the ire of the West? There is an opportunity here for China, but I also could see a potential fly in the ointment. Covid, and the stress that was put on long distance supply chains! I think that the US and most modernized countries want to have greater control over their supply chains today, than perhaps at any point in history. I think that plays against China in the longterm. I think it plays even more negatively for China the longer this war goes on, so they have a vested interest in stabilization. So to me there is both a political and fiscal upside to getting involved sooner rather than later. The flip side is that dealing with an authoritarian Russia, is also politically in China's interest in that I could see fears of Westernization of Russia if Putin is ousted from power. Something a communist authoritarian regime does not want. I also am curious about the political calculation regarding military power from the Chinese viewpoint today versus a month ago regarding Russia's military prowess? I'm sure that Putin was VERY sure of his military prowess a month ago. China more and more has been trying to flex its military might as well, and how do they view how Russia fared in their long term thinking. I think the biggest economic risk for China is the west simply pulling more and more higher end (profitable) hi tech production back closer to home. That would be a drag on their economy, and slow their growth. Plus it seems that their covid immunity leaves something to be desired, and that also risks supply line decision making long term to some degree. So if they can come in and be the peacemaker, that might be the best position for them in the short term. Stability means cash flow, and China needs that more than anything to keep growing. Anyhow I thought it might be interesting conversation trying to weigh the contemplations that China is making and evaluating right now? Since most everything is a WAG regarding their decision making, since it's such a closed society.

Dirty's slogan should be, "Turning blood chunky for decades!" Tastes good, but how do they add the grease to the burgers? Shake Shack uses the same methodology.

If Lindsey Graham wants to show some fucking character and guts, then finally come out of the closet. In a weird way, I am beginning to have a glimmer of optimism. Simply as I am seeing this as potentially unsustainable financially for Russia. Not to say it's going to get better before it gets worse. As I think the brutality is only going to increase, but the long term sustainability is very much in question. If the reports are true that Putin is asking China for help already, then to even ALLOW THE ASK, is huge. My calculation on China is that they are taken aback at the unity of the Western world on sanctions. I do not think either Russia or China expected the sanctions to be so universally embraced. I think that changes China's calculous relating to becoming closer to Russia, or moving away. China will come in before long trying to be the peacemaker to provide Putin an offramp. This is not to say Putin will not continue to use what he still has in the bag, meaning a lot of artillery shells. So he will pound civilian targets hoping to break the will of the people. He also has chemical and biological weapons that he may feel forced to use as the war continues to go poorly for Russia. Each day this going on Russia is in a weaker position than the day before. The financial reality of the collapse of the Russian stock market is unrealized because it has not been open. You cannot "propaganda away" a complete stock market evaporation. Right now Putin is winning the interior propaganda war, but how can you shout "all is well" on the TV channels, when virtually all investments in Russian commercial enterprises is reduced to nothing? You can't hide that shit, and that's why the markets have not opened since the end of February. I have no illusions that things are going to improve anytime soon, but I am beginning to wonder how much longer Russia can both fund a losing war, and keep the stock markets closed to maintain the lies that "all is well?" Putin is scared to open the stock market. Until he can do that, Russia is only getting weaker and weaker every day. And China is the only nation that could markedly help them, and they are seeing far too much financial downside to do much more than give very limited support, from my perspective.

Or simple fiscal math to what today is called a "conservative."

One thing about the GOP, never, ever, ever underestimate the gutlessness of that group of white men.
-
And Trump would be flying over, to meet with the Puppet. Lots of cheap available real estate in Novorossiya, to gild.

The bottom line is a LOT more legitimate voters are restricted from voting today, than in the past. Mostly of minority representation, than will EVER FUCKING EVER be close Republicans can document voter fraud. So the "cure" works to hurt minority turnout, when there was nothing at all to cure to begin with. Just another made up GOP problem, like the dangers of transgendered kids... Voter fraud is most similar to the Republican Healthcare Plan. It's somewhere out there, but nearly impossible to find any widespread documentation of it.

Jerry Jones Being Sued By Woman Claiming He's Her Biological Father
horn4life replied to Vic Mackey's topic in Football
Jerry is like a lot of very rich guys, just shitty taste and shitty judgement. Big chicks with big racks racks and a skinny yacht. When the smart move is big yacht and skinny chick. The one thing I have always pitied my extremely wealthy friends for, was their relationships with their fathers. Not all, but most were constantly craving attention, and then when they finally got it, had performance anxiety like a motherfucker. The kids and wife were usually just part of their image check list rather than something to be cherished. Their true love was money. -
Seems like with the high dead ration that it's probably more cost effective to just bring a cooler and buy a bunch at Stuffed and bring them home, still avoiding the strait tails of course. I was going to stop into "the Boat" (formerly Sam's Boat) and get some on Fat Tuesday, but at $15.95 a pound I sort of lost my lust for the little buggers.

Yeah the trust fund inheritance folks got their parents house, but in most cases not the work ethic. Had an old guy, whose father was a very wealthy attorney and he was bragging about his wealthy upbringing. I told him that I doubted many of the people he knew still lived there as my experience with the few River Oaks kids I knew, were only cashing their parents checks, not building their own careers. He explained to me I did not understand the level of wealth he was talking about. I'm 60 and he was late 80's?, and I got pissed talking to the old fart, and asked him to write down a few names of folks he knew. I picked up his tab to still my temper. i searched the street name in the Harris County appraisal district, and not a single name he mentioned lived on the street. It would not surprise me at all that the kids of the rish live paycheck to paycheck. Simply as they are certain the check will come on the first, so they spend it all.

Hey! My wife is quite content with my gummy bear... 😉

At the end of most every Republican Presidency the people living paycheck to paycheck is higher than when the Republican President took office.

Marshall, TX seems like a second world country.....
horn4life replied to Aqua Buddha's topic in Daily Texan
I was going to say the way the town voted but didn't want to point any fingers... -
We have been going to the coast for more than 20 years now. Weather is usually good. I did go wade fishing once in my Texas gear in the early 2000's when the weather was shit, and we were shittier losing 63 to... maybe 13? The 63 and the crap weather I remembered pretty well. The good news is that about 80 percent of the time the weather is great. More importantly the fishing is usually very good in the surf, and a throw next will get you the live mullet you want for a solid chance at the trouts and reds while DWFing (drinking while fishing). So likely I will be down there in some capacity or another.

Voter Fraud is Republicode for "well we can't just be openly racist" so Voter Fraud! ironically almost all the voter fraud that was purposeful has been documented to be by... hold your breath.... fucking Republicans. But when you have a minority party and cannot win the popular vote for a first term President in more than 4 decades, you gotta unlevel a fair playing field. Of course when white voters are caught cheating it's a hand slap, black voters? Years in jail.

The "PERFECT PORK CHOP" - help Roxette Win @ BBQ Austin.
horn4life replied to ROFL BOX's topic in Food and Travel
Came in too late here, but I would have spritzed the thing with orange juice to add just a touch of sweetness. IF the chop is all thick I am pulling before 140, 137 as others said seems about right. The reverse sear ided is good as well. Had a damn fine chop at Cover 2 of all places 2 weeks ago. They Cooked Sous Vide, the slapped on the grill for the grill marks. Meat was tender throughout. Hope it was fun for you guys! -

The one thing that I wondered about last night was if the US legal moves to secure and freeze Russian assets in the US begins to show a pattern of inflated transactions with the GOP's former dear leader (trump) that accidentally builds a money laundering case?
