I used to love to engage in spirited debate, but for years I have been in the #4 category. As why bring up politics? If I ever engaged back it was for giggles, not serious discussion, unless they wanted to have a real discussion. Bt yep, it's the dumb ones that do. As they don't contemplate that silly keep the peace idea with that thimble of a brain "thinks." .Which i exactly what Fox News told them. to think. And quite honestly, I used to not give a shit! But now we have a budding brownshirt mentality (sadly I know history) in the GOP. And they lunacy is going to continue. As well the lean into racism. As... well... that is the base. But I think this particular holiday season, I think it is appropriate to call out people that do not understand democracy, and simply repeat shit because they saw it on Fox. Maybe I should have made the Title of this Thread, "This Holiday be a Dick to Save Democracy!"

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
horn4life replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
I for one think that Hudson Card could have thrown deep balls that were uncatchable.... Only we tried to modify the offense for Card, throwing more underneath. Might not be a bad strategy considering we hit about one out of 5-6 deep balls. And those deep ball incompletions usually result in a punt. I love Ewers quick release, but every QB is going to have a little bit of happy feet with our OL. Not excusing missed reads, just saying big dogs in your face change your mindset. Anyhow just sort of interesting to me that now UT no longer has a tradition of being in love with the back up QB. I honestly think Card could have done everything Ewers did versus TCU, but that he would make a couple first downs with his feet. I just do not understand why we do not just toss 5-7 yard passes all day long to open up the run game. Our OL simply cannot out physical the better DL's that we face, and won't be able to for another two years in all likelihood. So fucking adapt and dink the motherfuckers to death just enough to keep the run defense guessing. OR we can keep punting after throwing deep balls against better competition. Deep balls are great when your guys win the talent speed race and you have plenty of time. We would have been better off just using Worthy as a decoy running deep and dragging a safety into coverage and tossing the ball to Bijan 3 yards downfield. And that's just the truth. -
I liked Dave Chapelle on Saturday Night live... he didn't want to say something negative about another black man... "But he is... observably stupid. "

The expensive Turkey line was one I too got from my Father, and my wife got from her mother. Never underestimate the ability of Fox News to spoon feed stupidity to the Republican masses in the name of profit. What's hilarious is my wife bought a Ham at HEB Sunday to get... a FREE FUCKING TURKEY! Just like you can get every fucking year! I definitely need to add the "and how much did your turkey cost this year?" to my list of questions I get to ask with a laugh. But again. It is very important to understand, your friends, families and neighbors WANT to believe lies. Be a Patriot!

Well it looks like Mike Pence is no longer a complete and total coward. Well he is still a complete and total coward, but Joe Biden and the Dem's not getting wiped out by Trumpers has allowed Pence to after waiting 10 months is willing to say Donald Tumps tweet directed at him was "reckless." Not exactly a profile in courage, but a glimmer of non-cowardice. The GOP is currently occupied by elected officials who are cowards and compulsive liars. This is a top to bottom thing, with the GOP, if you do not fall into the coward and liar category, you are labeled an enemy of the party. But now that Trump did not win every race predicted in the midterms we are going to get to see a slow but steady attempt by elected Republicans to pretend that they have principles, and some degree of courage. They are going to occasionally, in the softest way possible pretend they are not complete and total cowards. They are going to start saying things that they have denied (but known) are true for several years. I cannot name a single Republican that I would deem a role model for a child that you wanted to be honest and courageous. If you can name one, PLEASE point them out to me! As I all have seen from the GOP is cowardice on a level that would allow democracy to die, rather than and Elected GOP official risk.... wait for it.... a mean tweet from Former President Trump. Our own Ted Cruz is the GOP poster boy of pretend principles and total cowardice. The only thing Cruz and nearly every elected GOP official cares about, is themselves. But that is the fallacy of following a scumbag like former President Trump. You may retain your power for a while, but at what cost? Now of course when you are a principless coward you don't even for a second contemplate any potential danger to anything but your cowardly self. But now the election has shown them that they may need to PRETEND not to be cowards and doormats to the twitter musings of a mentally damaged incompetent former President. So I expect sometime in the next month, Cruz was say something slightly non-flattering about the guy who called you wife a dog that you supported absolutely, totally, and completely. You will see Rubio say something super soft pretending he is not a coward. You will hear this trickle again and again, now that the Dems saved Democracy. It is as predictable as their cowardice is was. See when you have absolutely NO PRINCIPLES you are very, very flexible in what you do and say. Because there is no underlying foundation of principle to guide you toward honor and the truth. Now this is NOT to say the Dems don't have their own issues. But never in my lifetime ,have a see such a clear demonstration of cowardice and a lack of principles than the GOP has collectively shown our nation. So look forward to a very but timid movement towards a very, very soft speaking of the truth by Republican. NOT because the truth is important, but because their level of cowardice has declined to the point where sometimes they are not afraid to speak the truth. A country led by leaders without principles, and that is based on lies in what the GOP is today. But the rehab is now underway, with Pence's cowardly finally coming forward with the softest possible criticism of Trump. What a bunch of fucking principless cowards. They will "hardly even know Trump" by the time 2024 rolls around. Thank you to all the Patriots who voted to save out nations future from these principless cowards who would toss away out democracy for their own personal aspirations. But remember each time you hear a soft criticism of Trump is is NOT courage, is is personal political calculation, nothing else.

I guess I also should have clarified. I am not saying get into a debate. Just a dismissal, like... "Is there any stupid lie you won't believe, and repeat? Good Lord!" with your eyes rolling and a laugh coming. Anything more than that, and you will go down a rabbit hole of denial that will engulf the next several hours with dumbass "but whatabout" endless false "truths" they "heard about...."

One of the things I noticed about Covid was the greater isolation into silos of folks who they surrounded themselves with. I remember as I am sure you do, that this whole Covid thing was going to disappear as soon as Biden was elected. No shit, my BIL said these exact words. The scary thing? I have no doubt he believed this bullshit, in large part because there were no contrarian (actually factual) persons to balance the misinformation they WANTED to believe. And that's the key thing, the desire to believe something that is not true, and then cling to that lie no matter what. Because to turn back to truth, would make them look exactly like the dingbat idiots they are. The isolation of Covid allowed this stupidity to breed and be affirmed again and again. Its as fucking dumb as Obama was Lazy because the played golf, but Trump was not lazy playing 5 times the golf and bilking the taxpayers to boot! Or Obama who went to church every week for years was not a Christian, but the porn star fucking 4 times a decade church attendee was a Christian. These are lies that Republicans told themselves and reinforced over and over. The GOP has become a party where honestly the best campaign is a campaign of lies. Think back to the tea party wave of 2010, that brought in the initial round of republican loons. The big GOP issue that year. Obama's health care plan would have.... wait for it.... "Death Panels" where the government would decide who would be given care. A lie out of whole cloth, and it worked. They tried the same thing this year with another big round of mis and disinformation. Honestly it would have worked again, but for the pesky fact some folks are actually patriots and love Democracy. Now let me be clear here. I almost never start talking politics. Inevitably some Republican relative says something that is completely factually inaccurate, and I feel compelled to respond now. Because to not respond, is to tacitly pretend that their bullshit has some validity. Will my strategy piss some folks off in the holidays? Most certainly, but again, I will not be the one bringing this up, but I will respond with FACTUAL information. We have come too close to having our way of life destroyed due to the GOP embrace of lies and misinformation and a dominant political strategy. When you believe lies, you can believe anything, like a guy that lost by millions upon millions of votes actually won. I think most of your Republican relatives will keep their mouths shut about politics, but many will not. And if you are a true patriot it's your duty to point out lies, and try to save our Republic.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2023: Strippers, Monkeys, and 5-Stars
horn4life replied to Machinator's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
You can't really blame kids for going to Oregon and looking into the pot of gold being offered to lure kids there. Plus it's probably a part of the country that they have not seen before. I never blame kids for taking advantage of opportunities, and taking a look. What NIL has done for Texas is allowed us to compete with the schools that have been bagman programs for years, with legal and above board NIL opportunities (our version of bag men). Schools like Oregon has the support of Nike for heaven's sake, so their pot of gold is pretty darn attractive. In the end I think you have to remember these are still kids. Like nearly every kid there will be moments of home sickness. My memory of early UT was going back to Houston at least once a month my first year, to party and see how those younger high school gals turned out, that I passed on as being too young. But mainly it was because "home" was still home. By my Sophomore year I rarely went back home, as my "home" was not Austin. And that never changed. I think that most of these young men would prefer to stay closer to home. To have their friends and family close enough to come home for a birthday, or other family event. I think that in the end Hicks is a lot more likely to sign with the good guys, instead of with Oregon. Simply as our bag game is now on par with anyone's. Because of that I tend to think the normal stuff (for MOST kids) of being closer to home provides a better comfort level, and quite honestly a better chance at overall football success. Now of course if we shit the bed the next three weekends out bag game won't mean shit. But it's nice to know know that we can indeed compete with schools that have been bag man schools for years. So now all we need do with win a few more games that we should have!!! -
Texas 46 TCU 39 641 passing yards My own prop bet We have two 4 minute drives in one game! whoohooo!
-
Basically the defense is burdened by the inability of the offense to sustain scoring drives for more than 3-4 minutes... for a " long drive." I did a quick look at the box scores and found several scoring drives over 4 minutes. But only two scoring drives the whole season more than 5 minutes. against ULM a 5:22 drive, and a 6:12 drive to close out ISU. I love the long ball, but fuck we got dinked to fucking death by both Tech and Okie State. Run the ball and throw a bunch of sandlot 6-11 yard passes, and let our athletes produce and POSSESS offensively. When the other teams offense is good and runs a shit ton of plays, our defense suffers. This shit is not rocket science. Dumb down the offense to throw underneath, and run the damn ball. A Possession underneath passing and run games opens up the deep pass anyhow. Plus the advantage of a dink and run offense is you can go no sub and keep their defense on the field and tiring. Perhaps even more importantly, this team still has a fragile psyche. Sustain drives and eat clock. That's how you win games. Two fucking drives the entire season more than 5 minutes? That's not dominating football. It simply isn't. And we have the fucking tools!!!! Just be happy with first downs, rather than explosive 20+ yard plays. They explosive plays will come, IF you pound them with the run and tosses underneath. down off soap box....

Texas MidTerm 2022 Early Voting Thread- Oct 24th-Nov.4th
horn4life replied to StassneyHorn's topic in Cloak Room
First off early voting for me was relatively painless, as I can go whenever I want. I live in Austin. I also know that it is amazingly easy to vote in rural areas in comparison to urban areas. Especially on election day. So there is a built in advantage that they GOP tries to build on by trying to limit access in urban areas. (The laws may say they are for another reason, but that's the ultimate outcome, as well as the desired one). On a brighter note. It took nearly all my will power to not ask the 4 ladies who were manning the station if they new anyone who had a bunch of Gnomes in their yard, as I thanked them for volunteering. But since it was only a few minutes after 7 am, I resisted. Otherwise I was going to say, "Do you guys know anybody that has some Gnomes in their yard?" No matter the response, would have replied, "We should gather up some of these finger condoms and sprinkle them in their yard. Make it look like the Gnomes has a wild party!" 7 am was just too early for such rapier wit. Go out and vote, and try and save us from fascism, fact free and responsibility free public service the GOP is selling. -

A question for all the Football Historians out there. When was the last time the Aggies did not fuck themselves in the ass with a long term coaching contract extension? IS the answer R.C. Slocum? He got like three years into a 7 year contract before getting canned. Forget that question... just pause and for a second think about the fun that was occasionally hearing "Slocum on a Mobile," on the radio.

Senior Citizen Issues - Assisting Your Parents
horn4life replied to ROFL BOX's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
A couple things I will since my wife's father passed recently. She is a long term care pharmacist so she has connections to different facilities, and has been around the industry for years. It's different when they are dying. Like most things in life you get better with experience, and our parent is our first experience. So you have no idea WTF you are doing in a very emotional state. The biggest smart thing we did was get hospice involved. Simply as they have experience and you do not. She was on the way to making some decisions as the lead in her family, which the hospice nurse helped guide her. Sometimes they rally. Sometimes they rally to see a certain relative, or after having some visitors. It's not a straight downward decline and having the hospice folks tell you what they think the time span is helps narrow dramatically. There were also a lot of other advantages of Hospice related to supplies like depends as I recall. But mainly having an "expert" at death to guide you, was especially helpful. The other thing that was surprising was that some nursing facilities did not have the ability to administer morphine for end of life care. You can have a family member administer. It's a question to consider when choosing a nursing facility. -

Thought I would put up the bookend Sun rise to your sunset MIA if that Was the Saturday we crushed OU! About to shoot back down tomorrow, and try to catch a low wind day in the surf. Will probably actually go to Shorty's this go round since I am solo. But looks like it's gonna get windy as shit so may just boomerang back to Austin if the fish stop biting. Missed the pig party due to a combination of the Sunrise below, jack Daniels, and the slaughter of the Dirt Burglers.

Vanity Fair on the Trump-Biden transition process
horn4life replied to Gil Bang's topic in Cloak Room
Shit the transition process was only one thing. Get rid of as much factual evidence of the Trump administrations communications as possible. There is a reason the Trump administration avoided allowing the American people to have ANY RECORD AT ALL of their communications. They were totally and completely corrupt, and in public service only for personal gain and not at all for the American people. Of course the same folks so concerned about Hunter Biden, don't care about Jared Kushner and Trump hiding their communications, and the Familiy recieving TWO BILLION FUCKING DOLLARS!!!! Anyhow as I have said for a while. Without misinformation, lies and racism, what has the GOP left to sell? -
