  1. The tow package was the one thing I insisted on for my 2020 silverado 1500. The transmission cooler, dual exhaust and brake controller were necessities for what I wanted to do. I came close to pulling the trigger on a 250/2500 but just couldn't justify the cost. Plus I got a fantastic deal, so I'm happy. I especially like the accurate transmission temp gauge, that I like to monitor if I am doing a lot of heavy acceleration or hilly towing. I think the main thing you would want is the transmission cooler if you are pulling for 1000's of miles a year. Or cut maybe the transmission maintenance schedule in half as an alternative?
  2. i'm with justhookit here. The problem with LYING about why you are closing, is that... you are lying about the health and safety of your business during a pandemic that is killing people and filling up hospitals. It's no surprise that businesses are shutting down due to covid. But why lie? Unless you have run your business in a cavalier way and ignored most of the science? Right now being shut down in a tourist area for ANYTHING but covid among your employees is a relatively small percentage. If you care about and respect your patronage you will go a lot longer way being honest with them than being dishonest with them. In a place as small as Port A, lying is just... well lying. The tourists don't care why you closed, they are only there for a week. But if you are closed for covid, the locals know because... Port A is not that big and people talk. I just hope I can get back to a closer version of the past, for my Octobers in Port A. Last October did not give me the offseason space that I so much prefer.
  3. Here is a rehab link that seems relatively accurate on the street costs of assorted drugs. https://www.rehabcenter.net/the-average-cost-of-illegal-drugs-on-the-street/ Only reason I looked it up was the $20K cost estimates on the ketamine. The one thing I think the average college kid simply does not know is that that little THC vape pen is the same as carrying round like 5 pounds of weed. It's a pretty crazy difference in penalty. Some kid I remember got charged on the weight of his brownies..
  4. Yep- lelos has the best pours I have found. Great place to pregame for La Playa
  5. Well the basic code for "science" is the argument is the Vaccine is not fully approved, only emergency approved. The fact it will save your life and the lives of your loved ones is something to be completely and totally dismissed. But when you believe lies about fundamental shit, it's simply easy to believe a lot of lies that fit with your own uneducated unscientific musings. --------------------------------------- I find this particularly interesting. Two younger daughters of people we know, 22 and 28 both got covid, then got the vaccine, and now covid again. It is just a data point of curiosity. The one girls father has ALS but he is vaccinated and only has mild symptoms thankfully. Anyhow I found it interesting. --------------------------------------------------- Too bad the dumb are dumb. And too bad Republicans as a whole CHOOSE to be dumb. But I guess it's been a while since it's been so easy to see Darwin's modeling in humans so clearly.
  6. I am at the point now where I am actually BEGGING people to get Vaxxed. It's sad that 90% of their uncertainty is based on the endless repetition of falsehoods often from Friends on facebook. It's just sad that so many people are so willing to repeat so many lies about Covid. But when you start lying about a President's birthplace, lying about a healthcare program with Death Panels, lie about fiscal conservatism and you spend wildly, lie about job creation and tax cut costs, lie about damn near everything political... You simply are willing and happy to repeat the next new lie that makes you feel warm and fuzzy about NOT KNOWING WHAT IS REALITY. Killing a few folks here and there is not a concern, not a worry, and quite frankly does not matter. The self-delusion is all important, because without this delusion, they would realize how really fucking stupid they really are. And that is why it is so important to Governor Greg Abbott to not let the reality of his constituents stupidity be pointed out. I guess on the bright side an unusually low temp Summer thus far has saved us from another Greg Abbott sponsored partial electrical grid collapse. So there's that...
  7. I guess the only thing that is now a constant with Covid is when you think you have seen the dumbest fucking political stance in your life. The GOP finds a new way to "raise" the bar of stupidity to a higher level. Greg Abbott's new school guidance measures are so fucking dumb as to be flabbergasting even for that dolt. If the kid next to your kid at school had covid... it's none of your or your kids fucking business. Because.... gotta always but always protect the stupid non-scientific parents that Abbott knows are in his corner. Our Governor's ONLY covid policies are designed to make sure the stupid, don't actually get called out or known as stupid. The freedom to infect others is more important than protecting the population from the stupid.
  8. Bottom line now is if you an older immune compromised person that got vaccinated in January or early February, you are going to need some sort of booster soon. I know of multiple breakthrough cases in fully vaccinated people. My buddies 91 year old Dad got it here and hopped on the plane to Idaho... Insisted it was anything but covid... $20,000 private plane ride later the clan is back in Houston. And he feels good enough to skip the doctors order to use the oxygen about an hour a day. Doc said the vaccine likely saved his life. The Dad and oldest son both Tested positive during the trip to Idaho, though the sun was basically asymptomatic (slightly scratchy throat I think.) Once Dad got to the Hospital and they started treating him he felt a lot better in just 12 hours. He was mostly sleeping and not eating at that point, insisting on not getting a covid test. First thing hospital does is covid test... The folks that insist (for whatever reason) not to get vaccines... are really playing Russian Roulette. AND risking clogging up the hospital system with their illness. I am curious to see how my wife's company (sub- of CVS) handles booster vaccines. Seeing that CVS own's Aetna, and Aetna covers all CVS employees, they probably have a very good idea of the cost/ benefit of boosters. What we need is a new vax Designed for this variant. Then in another 6 month another booster for whatever the new variant produced by the replication among the unvaccinated has brought us. This will repeat again and again all mainly because of misinformation. I see some sort of stick and carrot approach before too long to incentivize the current voluntary covid hosts into making wiser decisions. Either that or we never, ever, ever, hit herd immunity. Some folks are gonna insist to their deaths or hospitalization that "they are right" (even though scientifically wrong). It will be interesting to see how it shakes out since we squandered the opportunity this year to snuff this thing out.
  9. Uhhh... so cheating? By Duke standards????? But with what the FUCK would a guy named Randolph Duck know about fair play. So YES... The tradition is that they DID NOT cheat!!!! Because they guy they had all suited up and ready to cheat was not needed... as they pulled ahead. To me if you are ready to cheat, you are a cheater. But fuck, I play my ball down when I golf, and keep an honest score. Which is very, very far from the norm.
  10. Two things in life for Aggies will never change: And endless butt hurt relating to their inferiority to the Texas Longhorns. And secondly THE FACT that their "greatest tradition" the 12th man is a Tradition based on CHEATING! Imagine that... your greatest tradition is based on hiding an ineligible graduate to cheat in a college football game. Sad thing is despite the never endeing tradition of cheating.. The Poor Ags just cant win (except for mythical championships.) Nothing else really matters.
  11. So bottom line... The GOP protection fo the really fucking rabid (but maybe normally sort of reasonably smart) has helped accelerate BOTH the transmission and mutation of the coronavirus. If you watch Fox news or get your info from facebook stop reading now... And go fuck yourself. And double, triple and quadruple fuck our Governor, Greg Abbot, who simply decided that a certain size stack of bodies was worth distracting from his disaster of GOP designed NOT RELIABLE electrical grid. Just one in my fucking life I wish the GOP actually addressed and solved a PROBLEM!!!! So the spread and variants continue with the BLESSING of our Governor, because he thinks it might help him get elected. The GOP is mainly focused on two things now. Trying to change the votes of voters to the minority view. And protecting the really, really fucking stupid, that won't get vaxed and will not wear masks. Basically the MOST important thing, is to make the really dumb tha vote Republican not feel bad.... as they endlessly infect others.. Dead people are not important to our governor, only his next term. What a fucking scumbag! Anyhow my life is shit right now. House is destroyed from 24,000 gallons of water being dumped into the house while on vacation. And, now my NEED to dine out is gonna get fucked next. But what's important in Texas? No mask mandates, and making sure the stupid folks aren't made to feel bad for being fucking stupid and prolonging the Pandemic. I remember when republican politics were not completely based on falsehoods, and there was a chance a GOP president would win an election with more votes than the other guy. (none of you remember this unless you were voting in 1980... and that's fucking sad).
  12. Yeah.... I put the best braided supply lines on and... boom. I am hoping the receipt I was shitting that I fucked up and used a tool on the supply line and the entire claim would be voided. I knew I put it on hand tight, but I may have over hand tightened and the plastic nut itself failed, the 90 psi was a contributing factor. Already have that... but Port A camping... is well... more fun! Meant to post the above a while. back. I agree with EVERYTHING being automated to some degree, but my guy calls back at least when I ask. It's the wish washy aspect of the whole thing. Look's like Ultimately I will get a place to live, and about $60 a day per diem for food. Which is ok since we mostly go out early and will likley come out ahead when I get into something longer term. But man.... the idea of this being contingent on contractors.... not optimistic. I am tempted to do some research and just have USAA being an adjuster out and give me a raw number. Then work backwards. With everything in the whole hose that touched the ground getting torn out, it's making us think. Might bite off some major changes, but that would shift a lot of the housing onto us, if we went crazy. In the end it's a bunch of sheet rock work, and shit ton of hand texturing, new cabinets and floors. Not exactly rocket science. I just see an eternal drift on the timeline... Thanks for the replies! IF you know of somebody with a house in NW austin they would rent Month to month let me know.
  13. Went to Port Aransas with the wife for a lovely week. Came back to a destroyed home with 1-1/2 inch of water most everywhere in the home. All walls have been cut back two feet and the hardwoods will start getting ripped up tomorrow. Apparently 24,000 gallons more than the 3900 we use in an average month. We are going to grab anything and everything we think we might want to have for a couple months tonight and papers, and find a place to go tomorrow or tonight. There is a Residence Inn at the Domain pretty close to our house and activities, but for potentially months? Not so sure. Luckily I have a buddy's house where I can store anything I want so we are going to box up all the clothes and sort it all out later. Grab any paperwork not in the safe deposit box and plan for a few months of displacement. I am thinking an AirBnB type situation with the dog, might be just as cheap ultimately. Anyone insurance is USAA so they are pretty good on the claims side I just don't know what the norm is Happily never having been though this before. Does USAA go of a per deim? I just want to get the best quality within their guidelines but thus far it's been "get a reasonably priced hotel." THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
  14. Well once again the Trailer has been a blessing... of sorts. Instead of me posting Port Aransas pics (I will later) I am doing day a week just North of Austin at Shady Oaks RV park. Because when I was gone a week in Port A my house had a 3/8 inch high pressure line put some 24,000 gallons of water into my house. So... uh... sort of sucky. Anyhow with the dog it was just easier after being gone a week to just change trailer locations. I will say living in a trailer in Port A is more fun than Cedar Park. This trailer has saved us during the snowpocolype, and now during the great toilet flood of July 2021 is a great for a transition to what looks like what may be a few months out of the house.
  15. I may be crazy... but do you know that the new service was wired properly? I would absolutely set up the gennie and see if everything works properly? I am at IB Magee in Port A this weekend and the power went out twice. Made me rethink about not using my surge protector/ power testing box. I didn't want to expose it to too much salt air, but made me think more about surges. I would be pissed if my shit got fried and I have the tool to save me, in the trailer.
  16. Was this a little before noon yesterday? We walked into Virgina's at 11 for Lunch and saw the Coast Guard hauling ass out of the harbor about 30-40 minutes later. I figured it was a missing swimmer, but might have been your bro and co. I think we are gonna hit Shorty's but that 9 pm start time might be a stretch with my 5:20 rise this AM. Gonna try to make it, but it may be too large a zoo.
  17. Yep sorry.... Windy AF today, and looks like Virginia's parking lot is shut off, when I drove by this morning. So... If Robert Earl Keen is playing there, the sound is most certainly going to bleed over. Think I am going to see at 11 if Virginia's is open or not during this event. I figure at 11 AM maybe I can get in without a long wait. I also think we may have figured a way to manage the wait at La Playa. There is always a full house bum rush at 5 pm. But after that folks walk in and say "fuck it" without putting their name on the list. Think next time we are going to just wait until after 5, but our name on the last and just come back around 6. On a THURSDAY that is...
  18. If you boys haven't been to float the Comal then that's my Plan B. You might try "the Other Place" as IF they have a room, it would be a blast for you guys and fairly short travel time. The boys would probably enjoy the eye candy... Wear your mirrored glasses Dad....
  19. Dang... so somebody owes me almost the cost of my two briskets this weekend... just for slicing them up?
  20. Whatever you do.... don't go back the way you came!
  21. Depends.... as always... I can see County Line... but... I would ask the expectations of a dinner for your group? Matt's might be a good choice in that it gives that Tex/Mex flavor in an environment that is corporate friendly. But if you want to be a bad ass... get a reservation at Vespaio and let them see a little of South Congress. I would somehow have Continental Club be involved, likely drinks before the meal as they almost always have early music. If you want them to go to a trough go to County Line. If you want them to experience Austin... I am showing them some music paired with dinner. Upside is they are Yankees.... so just order Tequila shots for everyone and yelll... "Fucking Carpetbaggers!"
  22. Nice trip Big D! I would MUCH, MUCH rather go to La Playa twice than go to the Crazy Cajun. Heading down in the AM, and the beach looks like it's gonna be nice the next week so goody for me!!! La Playa Thursday night then hopefully cooking up a little on the grill rather than fight the lines for dining. Any update on the Robert Earl Keen Rumor? And with the Pachanga based out of Virginia's does that make it impossible to get my smoked tuna dip? Wondering if my get on the list the go to Shorty's for a couple drinks is still a good option. Or does the tournament just dominate the parking lot to where it's not worth it?
  23. I'll be in town starting Thursday though mid week. I went to see Keen's Christmas show to close out 2019 before the Pandemic, so this would awesome! Only way I am getting to get involved in the tourney is as deck hand... 😉. I also saw that Ruben V was playing the Back Porch Friday and Gary P Nunn Saturday. So good music this weekend if I can stay off the beach from dawn to dusk. I saw the island got nearly a foot of rain the last week, and I am definitely going to go and get some more bug spray. While the wind laying down is good for the fishing, the wind is also the only thing that keeps the critters from devouring you during dusk and pre-dawn especially. Gonna try a new fishing technique I have not used before called a pulley rig that looks interesting to me. Can't wait to get down there, especially Sunday onward when folks clear out a bit between weekends.
  24. I will never ever, ever willfully step foot into that place. I fucking hate waiting in line for anything. That being said. IF you ever want to go and enjoy the park... go on Mother's day. Only a few crazy ass mother's want to go with their kids to Schlitterbahn, so you can actually ride a few of the good rides.
  25. I ate a shit ton of Boudin and assorted spicy sausages last weekend. All I can say is that when the scanner rings these up an on screen prompt, with a coupon for Charmin should pop up.
