  1. See... rain is good for something.
  2. I bet there are a bunch of posters on the SEC West boards hand wringing about the need to open up the bag man system! 😉
  3. I have always said, Armstrong's only having one ball in and of itself is a competitive advantage. If you don't believe me pull on some bicycle shorts and go ride 20 or 30 miles. You will laugh at how right I am! Can't wait to see if we can get a better game day atmosphere when we get the new Moody with Beard at the helm.
  4. I disagree. Simply because no matter how stoned, or stinking or uninformed. One of them cares about people and the other does not. One takes into account factual information on important things like Power grid collapses. The other does not. Look at Abbott's attacking renewable energy this week. The failure of the power grid was nearly ENTIRELY related to expected capacity that was NOT available from natural gas fueled power. Think about that. The biggest problem we have ever faced is now being not solved, but used to create a lie to reinforce a false narrative. I don't care how fucking stoned or stinky you are, you can do better than that. In fact anyone that gave a shit about people or remotely cared about factual information would be far better than the hypocrite we have in office right now. With of course his feloniously charged Attorney General at his side lending support at every turn. How can this stinky stoner really do any worse than what we have now?
  5. Alright, Alright, Alright! It's time for a change! I would love to hear Matthew simply state, "it's odd to me, that a man who got a huge insurance settlement for a tree limb falling on him, hates OTHER PEOPLE getting the same type settlements the Governor did? I don't understand how it was not bad for the Guv, but it's now bad for other folks? It would be something I would love to hear Governor Abbott explain. or = "Why do we need to wait for $100 million from the federal government to fix our electrical grid, but Governor Abbott can find $250 million overnight to build a border wall? I mean why is OK to overcharge Texas $15 billion in a day and half, but they can't come up with a dime to fix a problem specifically of the Governor's making. I would love to hear him explain that? Just good old folksy question asking of a hypocrite...
  6. Funny how you "know" stuff... that you honestly do not know. Comparing Michigan and Ohio State to Texas is fucking stupid. NEITHER has remotely the media scrutiny that Texas does. And bagmen here simply will not work. But keep convincing yourself to the contrary. And switch hands occassionally.... 😉
  7. Just go buy some tubes, an inflator, and a cooler and go down and float the Comal River on a weekday morning. Then change clothes surfer style and go grab a bit to eat somewhere before heading home. You could probably find a place to car camp, but it's a good out and back trip. Catch a little sun and have a few beverages followed by a nice meal.
  8. And LSU went down the drain the following year.. I know all kids aren't clean. But if you think you can fill up Austin with a bunch of dirty kids and not have it get out, you aren't too bright. I guess I am a dolt, in that I have at least some degree of principles. But again, the spotlight put on Texas, and the absolute fucking hatred of us by so very, very, very many, would doom the bag man approach here.
  9. I speak from experience, you speak from? Comparing an assistant coaches salary to $100-200K illegal payment is simply a huge stretch. And by definition, a coach is NOT a teammate. I'm just saying the most greedy kids may have talent. But, more often than not, they are not good team leaders, and not the best teammates. Also when you start down the bag man route you then have to compete within your own recruiting pool when the kids talk about who got what. Johnny Manziel made shit tons of money while in college, but was he ever a good teammate? I safely stand by my original statement.
  10. OK - let me make one point. Do you think teams that win national championships are built upon a bag man approach? In general? From my coaching experience the super talented kid that has his hand out, is very, very rarely a good team member. They will not sacrifice for the team, because they only see themselves most of the time. Sucks because these same kids could be truly, truly great, and better players if they could just somehow look past themselves. Now the flip side of the coin is that as things shake out regarding profiting from player images, who is in a better place that we are to provide income streams LEGALLY to prospective players. We are the 800 lb Gorilla when it comes to branding and marketing. I also disagree with those that discount winning in winning recruiting wars. Then why has tOSU been eating our lunch for years? Well maybe, just maybe it's those almost regular BCS appearances? Not saying that dirty money does not influence some kids, but I think winning is a greater aphrodisiac for most recruits. Oregon is likely doing some shady shit, but are they gonna win a NC anytime in our lifetimes? Nope. Not gonna happen. I hate losing ANY battle for the big uglies at this point, but it's gonna happen. IF a kid wants to go the bagman route, it's available, without question. But I honestly question the ability to build NC level teams with those sorts of kids, because of their lack of team commitment. IF we are beating OU and just winning the Big 12 with some toe dips into the BCS our recruiting improves dramatically. We are not sucking at recruiting now, despite the hang wringing of so many between their masturbatory porn viewing. But I think it folly to think that winning is less important than bag men. Because is simply isn't. Flame away future carpel tunnel surgery candidates...
  11. Usually it's somebody that honestly has no business being out over their waste, and doesn't really know how to swim to begin with. OR they know how to swim and lost their footing and start drifting out in a rip tide of some sort and they panic. You can step into a hole pretty easy, and that scares anyone for a second. The average American's body density in and of itself is a flotation device, if you can just hold your breath. It is terrible that it happens so often. Though I will say the rips in Port A are nothing compared to the NW coast of Florida. https://www.portasouthjetty.com/articles/police-still-searching-for-man-lost-in-port-aransas-surf/ Right now the most dangerous thing in Port A is the endless stream of dumb fucks that think the Highway is cool for their Golf Cart. It was nice to see the 6 girls that passed a bunch of folks on the beach get pulled over later. 😉 You think I like driving fucking 20 m.p.h.? But if everyone decides to pass on the right to go 25... I'll be down in 2 weeks.
  12. Well, best I am seeing this weekend is $2.99 at Randall's. Since my party is net weekend I guess I will hold out and see if they need to get rid of extra briskets next week? OR I am gonna see if Prime is better.... 🤪
  13. We had an old Kenmore washer that lasted some 25 years. I got it from my folks and it only crapped out two years ago. I got a great pair of Kenmore He4 for like $250, with pedestals off craigslist. 3rd floor apt... paid their movers $30 to put it into the trailer. But... now the dryer is on the fritz and I assumed it was the "heating element." Bought the part and was going to test with voltmeter but it's battery was dead, so installed the part... still no heat. So sometimes it's NOT the heating element. I didn't even want the electric, as I prefer gas... so better be the damn fuse... The voltmeter at Home depot was $6.99, the 9 volt battery at Walgreens was $6.69... I figured another pair of probes was worth the 30 cents.
  14. If Democracy falls in the US it will be because of Racist Republicans doing exactly what they did under Trump. For an extended Period. Does ANYONE thing the GOP would not have allowed Trump a third or even fourth term?
  15. Well... no way a "jug of anti-freeze" was gonna stop anything from rolling backwards. So that alone made the officer think that clearly the kid was on PCP or Meth? The bottom line is that the way the laws are written if an officer wakes up afraid for his life any actions of deadly force throughout the entire day are Justified. Because they were indeed afraid for their life. I have personally advocated for years that ALL police officers should have college degrees or at least an associates degree. Just as a sort of forced diversity training. right now our pool of officers is mainly ex-military guys, whose only real choice after high school was to join the military. While this is certainly not ALL of the applicant pool, it is currently the majority. As my Sheriff buddy said, long term it looked a lot better than framing houses. If you have a college degree you can rise almost like a meteor in a lot of police forces, simply because yep, you can study for and pass a test to advance. My perspective is also framed from being assaulted by an off duty DPS officer, and having the arresting Austin police release him after putting him in their squad car. A courtesy I doubt I would have been given, had I assaulted him. Only my willingness to NOT throw a punch back in response to his assault saved me... He got off despite committing assault. AND more importantly he was ALLOWED by other officers to assault me with no repercussions. I am sure I was not alone in his abuse of power. And it's cool he has a gun...
  16. Randall's had had brisket on sale twice in the last few weeks. I think it was choice rather than Prime I think it was under $2 both times. Since I need to do two briskets for a Party on the 10th I am going to keep an eye out and will check back here as well. I doubt that anyone from taste could tell the difference between Prime and Choice on Brisket. If it's cooked right it's gonna kick ass. My money is gonna be on Randall's, with HEB and Sprouts being close to the same price. If Sprouts is close, I like their meat the best.
  17. Perroni... While he may be Aggie, he's not stupid. Do you get more or less clicks for saying, "still hope!" It's like every Aggie every after the traditional beatdown of the Little Sisters of the Poor in September with a gazillion Aggie cheer, which traditionally turn to Aggie tears in October. I give the edge to Texas because the guys that cover Texas prefer not to always look stupid. Whereas, Perroni knows his fanbase won't notice? 😉
  18. I wish that some Trump supporter would actually document their hospital experience from life to death from Covid. Then do a Yule Brenner type of mea culpa. It's not a nice way to die, drowning until your heart gives out. But instead you have folks that have so fully invested their lives into an alternative set of "facts" that they cannot admit even as they die, what they are dying from much less that their choices are the only reason they are dying... The really bad thing? Is that because the new strain is so virulent, you protection from only the first shot is only about 33%. So when the anti-vax folks do start to realize their folly, the lead time to protection will be weeks away. What a waste.
  19. I have been saying for about 15 years we are going to have something scrape off a good percentage of the population. Maybe those choosing not to get vaccinated are doing nothing more than affirming Darwin's theory of Natural Selection. Although in Darwin's theory the "natural" part of the selection process was to exclude human decision making. In this case human decision making is creating the opportunity for the virus to "naturally select." I hate for folks to lose their lives, or be debilitated forever. But damn, there is a free shot that removed you nearly completely from both those categories. It's crazy. 99 Percent of covid deaths in May, were unvaccinated
  20. I thought I was crystal clear. Free market forces would have closed the businesses down anyhow. Might have been a slow bleed, but they would have closed. Simply because free markets would have made restaurants, movie theaters etc. known transmission points for death and hospitalization. The bonus of such a laissez faire attitude would have been lovely scenes like we got to see in India, with overrun hospitals... maybe folks really would have been saying, "Hey Honey let's go out to eat! But avoid the route near the hospital because of the traffic jam." But I am not dumb enough to believe that. The PPP loans were nothing more than a massive give away to the weathiest Americans, "damages" had nothing to do with it for a LOT of the loans. The great thing about the PPP loans was you DID NOT even need to show any need at all. Just if you owe the bank a lot, they are going to make sure you are first in line to cover their own ass. But that was exactly how the GOP wanted it. No accountability at all.
  21. yeah... and we could stack up another 200,000 - 300,000 bodies and the businesses STILL would have died. Because more educated people (those with the most money) pay attention to science and death rates. It's an illusion to pretend that folks would have kept going out, and workers would be so stupid as to have just kept going to work as their co-workers headed to the hospital? Sorry to be so harsh, but reality sometimes needs to be inserted harshly. The biggest issue is the US has ALWAYS relied on temporary migrant labor, to fill seasonal geographic needs. Whether they produce pickers following crops, international students working the coastal towns of Florida, or the back house of most every place you have eaten at the last 20 years, we use a lot of non- US born folks to fill these roles, legally or illegally. No immigrants due to covid, and just wanting no immigrants and certain industries get additional labor pressures. Fresh off the boat, over the fence, or off the plane labor is a necessity, to maintain the standards we are accustomed to in the service industry. Money will change it some, but not in areas that are seasonal. By definition seasonal areas have huge swings in population, and thus needs for level of service in a small geographic area swing from impossible to manage, to nearly non-existent. For US born folks the wages are no longer being suppressed by the availability of the cheap labor that we bring in for these surges of need. With a smaller supply, those jobs need to be filled and the only way to fill them is to raise wages.
