  1. What I was trying to get at - perhaps crudely - is that I believe Verlander and Cole are cut from the same cloth as Nolan Ryan. They could go 150 pitches when needed, but modern convention says your arm is going to fall off if you go over 100. I’d much rather have a dominant Verlander or Cole going the whole 9 innings, disregarding pitch counts.
  2. Don’t fret. Of course all kinds of bad stuff could happen. But don’t forget that we hammered CFM the last time we faced him. Out team is pretty good too.
  3. Yeah, killed his career. What a shame.
  4. This pitch count bullshit has gotten out of control. Guys like Verlander and Cole aren’t pussies Cole could have absolutely finished the game today IMO. i found this from 2013 : “Nolan Ryan king of pitch counts. In 1989, at age 42, Nolan Ryan averaged 127 pitches a game with a high of 164, which came five days after he threw 150. He's now the CEO of a team that has a pitcher who threw 130 pitches, creating a huge uproar.”
  5. Times sure have changed. I subscribed for roughly 20 years. From when I was in high school in the late ‘70’s. That was THE outlet for in depth coverage of the big sports stories. Of course, the coverage was a week after the fact, but that’s all we knew. Hard to comprehend for those that have grown up in the internet age. The writers were among the best - if not the best - sportswriters in the country. Sad to see SI go down the shitter, but when an old guy like me can find any sports news or opinion that I’d care to read with 2 clicks on my phone, who needs SI? Especially if they are farming out the writing to freelancers.
  6. Yeah, any good team can get hot - see the 2015 Astros against the Royals. They were about to eliminate the Royals in game 4 up until the bullpen imploded and Correa made an error on a ball he should have made a play on. Should be a good series whichever team wins this game.
  7. I didn’t either. I admire that S.O.B. so much. He wasn’t going to be denied.
  8. I could live with that same result this year.
  9. Bam. Was that a little smile I saw on Greinke’s face as he walked off?
  10. No, it’s the fucking high pressure systems to the north and to the east that, as the NHC predicted on Tuesday, blocked Imelda from being able to blast her way north and east quickly like the majority of these storms do. Same thing happened with Harvey. The highs eventually weakened, the storm finds that weakness, and moves that way. The temperature of the Gulf of Mexico has fuck-all to do with the forward speed of these storms after they hit land.
  11. Yeah, that answered that question about whether Tucker could make the catch up against the wall.
  12. I remember this. “Russell Erxleben. Russell Erxleben (born January 13, 1957) is a former American footballplayer and currency investor. He shares the record for the longest field goal, 67 yards, in NCAA history (if not college footballhistory), originally set in 1977 while playing for the University of Texas.”
