If they were to commit now, they could join Jalen Milroe in making this a monster class and increasing the possibility of big success on the 40 Acres.

That's the type of deal that's gunna help change Texas for the better. Whatever you think of Herman or whoever the next wave washes in, a mega class of the best who bet on themselves to make that change would be, as the kids say, dope AF, and hard for any coach to fuck up. Kids who buy into themselves as being the difference makers, and not having to go to an Ohio State or wherever to get put into the NFL early.

It'd be a whole lot quicker and easier, anyway, than waiting for Herman or the next guy to do it themselves, I guess.

If Blake is stupid enough to fall for that shit, then whatever

I mean, shit happens, and you can't possibly control everything, but I'm gunna give a hard disagree and hell no to "then whatever." Put aside how much Texas can benefit from the BetterBrock being on the field, but outside of a sign of just how much you fucked up losing on a legacy like that, that'll be hammered to death by other schools on the recruiting trail, and for good reason. Would be a terrible fucking look.

But tbh, seeing some of the people who I at the very least semi-trust on here talk, I'm gunna say we'll be fine.

Try it the other direction, who has developed at all at RB while Drayton has been here? Name one RB that improved even a little bit under his tutelage?

Why did a true freshman QB turned RB look markedly more decisive and competent than our returning RBs?

Keaontay finally improved once his vision got better. Not sure who you credit that to, but it was frustrating to watch how many yards he'd leave out there. At least that got better.

Alright, so, the 2020 recruiting cycle is mostly complete. Now that puts 2021 into full swing. So what do we think?

    Class Size for 2021: 25+

Class Finish for 2021: Top 3

    In-state/OOS Mix: 80/20

Highest Ranked Player In the Class: Tommy Brockermeyer

Biggest Drama That Texas Avoids: Camar Wheaton

I assume a top 5 of Bama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida and Texas. I'm sure LSU, Ohio State, and Oregon will be right there as well. ATM will buy their share, but the wheels flying off whenever their hopes are shattered yet again will start to pull at the fabric of the JimboForPresident tapestry.

OU finish: Top 12 with the usual overloading of offensive players by numbers and ranking

ATM finish: Top 15 and I alluded to their issues above beyond that.

Of course I'm being a little optimistic, but I'm expecting Texas to have a big 2020 season. I'm also not expecting Texas to recruit like pussies in the new landscape, and they mostly haven't.

Anybody else want to take a shot?

Whoa whoa whoa on the sunshine there, CTJ....

But seriously, how confident in Tommy Brockermeyer are you? Scale of 1-10, or of your choosing...

Replacing Sam coming off the Sugar Bowl win where he carried the offense to replace him with Fields would've been locker room suicide

And also, even if you were open to it, the chances of those guys willingly inserting themselves into that situation with Sam here is at about %.001.

I think there are a few tiers for players entering the portal.

Tier 1 - The player could play virtually anywhere, for anyone. This could be a grad transfer or regular transfer. Justin Fields and Jalen Hurts are examples. The WR from UCLA is another one. The player is either blocked by another elite player or something else weird happened, and they're available. Every school should be on these players unless they also have an amazing starter in their slot.

Tier 2 - Lesser recruited player went to a smaller school, has suddenly developed into a really solid college ball player, and he wants more exposure and experience at a bigger program. Could be GT or regular. Blue bloods are advantaged here, and they should be taking hard looks and working these guys. This type of player is going to continue to emerge and play a bigger role in CFB going forward. This premise is currently nascent.

    -------

My view is that Texas should be vigorously involved with Tiers 1 and 2 and landing 1-3 each year. It's a sign of something wrong if an established regime is pursuing guys in tiers 3 and 4 more than once every 5 years. Bluebloods should never be involved with tier 5 unless they're undergoing a coaching change and need bodies because of prior regime idiocy.

    That's all fair.

Crossing off positions acting like we don't need help is silly.

But I really don't think that's what anyone here is doing, is my point. Of course we can always need help, but the reality is we're just solid enough at those positions with the 1s (*at most positions) to where the likelihood of a portal kid coming on at that position is lower.

If a portal transfer is better than someone we have then it's a take ALL DAY. You don't pass up better players in the portal because "we already have guys here".

Chances are, if a guy is in the tampon portal, he's probably there because he's not cracking starts at his current gig. He's going to want to go somewhere where he has the best chance of starting.

Texas may not be the perfect team, but there aren't a lot of portal kids who are going to be shoe-ins to start if they come to Texas..... except for probably LB.

Obviously, make your team better if you can, but you can't put in waiver claims on these kids.

I'm with you.  Losing QJ and not getting a 2nd CB does change the outlook of this class though.

    Absolutely.

When talking specifically about the class itself, it is decent considering. Saying it is "decent" does not eliminate the existence of disappointment. Obviously "decent" isn't where you'd wanna be, and obviously we know how we got here and that is even more disappointing.

Just a....decent class. Hopefully the coaches assembled and in future can get a lot of production and wins out of it.

I have inside information that there is a new school that Collins is considering. Its Stanford. He really likes the academic side of it but there are some in his circle that are arguing that the education opportunities at the University of Texas are just as good. I think I agree. I mean I know Stanford is a good school and all but come on, we are talking about THE University of BY GOD TEXAS! Austin vs Palo Duro? No contest. UT connections vs. Stanford. Easy. I dont think Stanford will be able to pull him but I guess you have to at least consider the possibility...

Have any Stanford CBs come in for Collins? Also, what does CB even mean thx

Between turning down him and Dunson, there better be a transfer/JUCO backup plan.

In previous classes they've been pretty good about that, so hopefully that continues even through the staff turnover.

    Hope to the fuck.
