  1. Not looking to tackle a DIY cabinet painting so can anyone recommend a cabinet painter in the Dallas area? Thanks
  2. I received my second Pfizer dose today at Eastfield College in Mesquite. Was in and out in 35 mins!!
  3. People ask me all the time about the cost of the horse? Yes, the horse is expensive but once you buy all the crap to ride, the monthly cost is no more than travel baseball, softball, volleyball or soccer. I know people who have paid way more over the years for sports than I did for all the horse stuff. It also made it easier that she just rode horses and didn't play sports!! She bought her last horse by herself, $8k!!!! My first car didn't cost $8k!!
  4. Anyone have a countertop guy in the Dallas Area? Looking at quartz, around 73 to 75 sq ft.
  5. City Guy whose daughter fell in love with horses. Ill I do is drive the truck and the write check. One of these days, I have to get comfortable with her hauling long distances but for now Ill keep enjoying the great daddy/daughter time. She started on barrels and play days around age 8, but she is a heeler now. Not a competitive roper but she loves going out to practice with the big guys. We have owned 5 horses since she was little but only one at a time. Pic is of her current horse and a pic of her practicing breakaway roping. At college (TX Tech) she working toward ranch versatility. Who would ever thought I would be paying tuition for a class where she rides her horse for a grade?!?!?!?
  6. Just returned from a week in Steamboat (skied for 3 days). We got lucky and the mountain received about 6 inches of snow on the night/day of our first day of skiing. No snow for the rest of the trip and things were getting icy by the last day. I will say the lift lines were short and on our last ski day (Thursday) they were no lift lines. 25% occupancy at restaurants and you had to wear a mask at all times at the base of the mountain. Had no trouble parking or walking through the shops in downtown Steamboat. We did eat two dinners in town and needed to make reservations just to ensure we had a space to sit and eat (party of 6). Recommend "Steamboat Snowmobile" - they are top of Rabbit Ears Pass. Recommend "Del's Triangle 3 Ranch" for horseback rides.
  7. We were driving from Illinois to Iowa and had just crossed over the Mississippi River into Iowa. We are driving through the town and pass a bait store. Wife: "I wonder why there is a bait store in this town?" Me: "Maybe because of the big river we just crossed!" Wife: "Please don’t make fun of me for this." Me: "Oh, I will share this story."
  8. We built an electric longboard for my son to ride around his college campus....😕.
  9. Just once and I will never sign up again. Is that to much too ask? We Regret... Your application was not selected for 2021 Masters tickets.
  10. Interesting. I know each mountain has some latitude in what they do, but it is my understanding that there will be no single day tickets sold this year. I know Ikon isn't selling 4 packs, either. Hope it goes through for you. So, while waiting for the last name a DOB of my daughters friend, the website timed me out and emptied my cart. When I went back to the Steamboat page, the "Hall Pass" was not listed. I call customer service, spend way to much time on hold and explained what happened. The guy on the phone said, that technically that deal had expired but they could still sell them over the phone!!! Purchased 5 "Hall Pass Tickets"!!!! $77 round trip airfare and $75 a day lift tickets!! Now time to find a VRBO!!!
  11. The "hall pass" isn't for every Ikon Mountain. I found it under Local Passes and then clicking on Steamboat. I just looked again and the Ikon Hall Pass isn't there anymore! I have them in my cart to purchase but now I'm nervous. I need the name/DOB of my daughters friend to finish my purchase!!
  12. Just looked into the Ikon Hall Pass. 4 days of skiing Mon-Friday. If we go to Steamboat, will will ski Tues-Fri. We really only wanted to ski for three days but at $75 a day, it might make more sense to just buy the Hall Pass. The young adults can ski 3 full days, 4 full days or whatever they choose. They are not selling a 3 day pass or single day lift tickets. I also can find a price of a single day lift ticket but if memory serves me right, $75 a day is a good deal?
  13. Booked 5 tickets on United from DFW to Denver, leaving Jan 4 and returning Jan 9, for $77 per ticket round trip. Yes, $77 per ticket round trip. Now time to find a mountain to ski and a place to stay!!! First trip where both the kids are in college and we don't have to be in school right after the new year.
  14. If you are a WWII collector, I will suggest a visit to Military Heritage Collection of North Texas in Nevada, TX. Don't judge a book by the cover, what's inside is really cool. If the weather is nice, you may even get a ride in the tank. http://www.fubarmotorpool.com/?fbclid=IwAR2785FOOn3p8EEfpKORlpIDNtxeVXjG_rEJRyNqmUvAIZUWTuh-Yze6wH8 https://www.facebook.com/ntexasmilitarymuseum/
  15. One of the better decisions we made was opening banking accounts for our two kids when they were in middle school. We would deposit there allowance and any gift money into their accounts and it was up to them to spend it all or save it all. It really it home to them, even in middle school, when they would ask if they could go to the donuts store every Saturday and Sunday. My reply to them was usually, "Do you have money in your account?" They also had to pay for any friends who stayed the night or have the friend bring their own money. The trips to the store were drastically cut when dad wasn't paying anymore. My son made a mistake in middle school with in game purchases on an app. He spent about $75 in a week buying crap for his "team"! It was a valuable lesson to him when he saw on the screen how fast the money was spent and when we pointed out that he was the only one spending money for the "team". We replaced half the money and told him that next time he would be on his own and broke. Having a debit card also put us at ease when plans changed last minute and a kid would end up with another family. We always told our kids to offer to pay for any meals, drink or activities and we would transfer money back into their account. They are both in college now and my daughter just lost her debit card for the first time. My wife has lost one every year over that exact time period. Also unlike their mother, they are both savers of money!!! We used a no fee account at Bank of America that is linked to our accounts. We have full access to their accounts but they cannot access our accounts. When I log into the app, I can see their balance and where they are spending money.
  16. We were discussing the Crew Dragon docking with the ISS and she didn't understand the significance of the event. During the conversation....... Wife: Where is the International Space Station? Me: Iowa!! Its in space above the earth!!!!
  17. Lets see if this works. This is a video from a couple of years ago. http://vimeo.com/user107739077/review/386263590/3c9259af68
  18. The wall is owned by me. It was built be the company that developed the lots in the early 2000's. My house was built in 2003. We are a small community with only about 120 homes in the HOA and from my attendance at meetings, I don't believe there is much money. As for the attorney, would it be wrong to retain a lawyer neighbor, who use to be on the HOA board?
  19. Looking for some advice about how to deal with the HOA and a possible drainage issue causing my retaining wall to fail. So I have included pics of the pond, spillway and wall. What is not shown, is that there are 3 more small ponds that feed into the large pond . When it rains, all the water from the top of the neighborhood drains down the hill into the 3 small ponds and then into the big pond (pictured.) All the extra water spills over and down a small creek in the green space behind my house. During moderate to heavy rain, the water coming off the spillway flows against the corner of the wall. Also, the house is about 15 years old. I have contemplated two course of actions. First, call the HOA, which really only consist of one overly active member and other members I don't know and seeing if we can come to an agreement. The president of the HOA (overly active) lives just on the other side of the small pond not pictured. Second, call an engineer and have then complete a report with videos and pics of the spillway after a rain. Once the report is completed and if it says the water from the spillway is a contributing factor to the failure of the wall, I contact the HOA and see if we can come to an agreement. You can see debris from the latest rain at the bottom of the tree, next to the corner of the wall. In Dallas........Thanks for your help!! TL DR: HOA's Suck! Need engineer report! Need retaining wall recommendations! OU Sucks!!
  20. This is a timely thread. i have begun the process of planning a trip to S. Africa. We will be in country for 7 days not counting arrival and departure days. The current plan is to spend half the time in and around Krueger and the other half in and around Cape Town. This is my daughters graduation trip and she wants to see the big 5. We have also talked about doing a shark dive while in Cape Town. A trip to the wine country is a must just so the wife has one day for her. I am open to any tips or further suggestions. We are flying AA because I have a little over $6000 in airline vouchers to use for the 4 of us travel. It only took one cancelled flight to Germany to get those vouchers. Traveling June 2020.
  21. The most surprising thing is my kids have never lost their cards. They have had debit cards since middle school. One is now in college and the other will be soon and never a lost card. My wife has lost at least 3 cards in the same time frame. Debit cards were the best thing when did when it came to money management for them. If the friends didn't bring money, they had to spend their own money on the friend.
  22. Same verse different year! There is always next year!
  23. We went a few years back and spent a whole week in the Arenal/La Fortuna Area. Rented a car and drove ourselves from San Jose. Hiked up Cerro Chato, Hanging Bridges and Zip Lining with Sky Adventures, Rappelling and waterfall jumping with a tour company called Desafio. We also went white water rafting with the same company. Spent a couple of afternoons at Tabacon Hot Springs. They had a pool bar where we watched the Women's World Cup. Visited La Fortuna Water Fall and yes its a lot of steps. My wife and daughter also paid to volunteer at an aminal refuge called Proyecto Asis. Why did we spend the whole week in La Fortuna and not split time on the west coast? We have spent many vacations on beaches in Mexico so this trip was to do things that we couldn't do at a beach. Hope to return someday to visit Manuel Antonio. Stayed at an Airbnb closer to El Castillo on the backside of Arenal from La Fortuna. The view of Arenal from our AirBnb... Proyecto Asis....
