  1. I do something like this, except I let teh brisket thaw if frozen, put the brisket in a cooler and pour the hot water over it. Will take longer than boiling. Here is Daniel Vaughan’s method: https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/faux-vide/

You mean the Rounders that used to be on W 6th? Yes, I liked that place. They moved to Jonestown last I knew.
  3. About 20 degrees low unfortunately. Hope it cranks up
  4. Maybe the giant orange is available
  5. You should have hit him with a beef rib
  6. The address is at the bottom of the article. 5119 Burnet. Googled it, and it's now a Torchy's between Hancock and North Loop. By the way -- that article is interesting, with from BBQ history and the general tone of how they portrayed certain establishments...
  7. Had seen some reviews early on about issues, so waited until they had time to work it out. Got pizza there last week and it was good. Not up with the better places in Austin, but better than what is generally available in the Four Points/Lake Travis corridor. Will try it again.
  8. "One of these things is not like the others..."
  9. This. Both stations are owned by Cumulus, and already in the same offices.
  10. I saw an announcement that JAM Session (apparently Jean Jacques Taylor and some other guy) from ESPN are getting a Saturday time slot — not sure who is getting pushed out
  11. I forgot that CDC was portrayed on The Simpsons
  12. Yeah, even with the Aggy owners I wanted to like it because at least they have a Texas connection. They make more Bordeaux style, but this wine was just flat, even after an extended decant. I don’t know how you come up with a boring wine from the 2013 vintage, but they did.
  13. So I’m walking the dog this morning, listening to the Ticket, and I hear a familiar voice. Mark Elfenbein is now 7-9 on Sundays, Work in Progress 9-12.
  14. Tried this tonight. It was OK, but kind of soft, much like its Aggy owners:
  15. I don’t think he’s going to mature at his age. I’m still good with hiring him, just do it with eyes wide open.
  16. And Jimmy admitted he treated players he needed differently. I don’t have a problem with that. Meyer overlooked 30+ arrests in 6 years at Florida, and reinstated a player that punched a woman on video after 3 games. What bothers me most is that he was a complete weasel on the Smith issue. “If I wanted to erase old texts how would I do that?” And, bingo, texts are erased. But I have to say, even with all that, I’m in on hiring him. Just be prepared for the fallout in 4-5 years.
  17. I like this. I add a bit of ground ancho Chile to my salt and pepper rub.
  18. My understanding has always been that the profit margin was higher for the US release because of the deals that have to be cut (and people paid) for overseas.Maybe that has changed (and there is certainly now a lot of revenue from overseas releases)
  19. So it’s a mess. This is straight from someone at a high level in the industry: 1. Theaters hyped that loosened restrictions and the release of Tenet and Ninja Turtles would jump-start the business. It didn’t, and the studios pushed everything back. 2. The result of everything getting pushed to next year means a lot (I mean a lot) of screens will close permanently in the US, unless there is a bailout. 3. Without a lot of screens, studios will release movies overseas (where movies are faring much better) and less so in the US, and move more to streaming — the studios were already ready for this. Think about it — Disney has a streaming platform (and owns 20th Century in addition to its own studios); NBC/Comcast, which now has a streamong platform, owns Universal. ATT/Warner owns Warner Brothers and New Line. and has a streaming platform through HBO; CBS/Viacom owns Paramount, and has a streaming platform. That leaves Sony. 4. The secondary fallout will be large. Lenders could previously hope for a sale, or a Ch 11 with a sale process, but there won’t be buyers. The hard assets are worthless. Oh — and what are landlords going to do with these giant boxes?
  20. Charleston is a great place — went there early Feb before the shutdown. Husk is very good. GO early and get drinks at their Carriage House bar Magnolias is worth a dinner — good food I know you can get steaks anywhere, but Hall’s Chophouse is excellent. Get the pepper jack creamed corn. Breakfast: Miller’s All Day; Big Bad Breakfast The beach at Kiawah is worth a drive. Stop at eat hot chicken at KinFolk on the way
