  1. I have always wondered why Golden Chick, Chicken Express and Bush’s have basically the same products and packaging (though Bush’s has crinkle fries). They are all so similar but, subjectively, my favorite of those 3 is Chicken Express (which has spicy tenders, by the way)
  2. Not my favorite, but choices are limited under $20. I understand the metric, but that is an awful sugar bomb
  3. Meiomi Pinot is decent and runs right around 20. Pessimist is a red blend also around 20. Please no Meiomi
  4. I will say that when we go to Napa we always stop by Addendum for the chicken. Yes, it’s that good...

Sheridan is great, though Soldado (though I liked it) was a step below. Hope the next is better
  6. Tough price point for what you want, but some suggestions, all under $20\ Malbec: Ben Marco (they also have a cab under #20) and Catena Zapata California cabs: Josh Cellars, Hess Select. Josh is surprisingly good at that price
  7. I did (we always decant). We have a good bit of VHR — decanted 1 1/2 hours before the first taste, and still working on it.
  8. Dry Aged Bone In ribeye from Salt and Time in Austin (great butcher shop, by the way). I love dry aged beef...
  9. Our H-E-B has had ground beef throughout the hoarding period
  10. If it’s what he serves at Addendum (the chicken and bbq shack behind Ad Hoc), yes, because he brines it in a buttermilk concoction overnight.
  11. (Sigh). I’m not talking about a place where you go in and get the #2 plate or the Senorita.

Yeah, I expected more of a fight, and also something with the airplane.
  13. Grabbed Fixe to go last night — they have their chicken and biscuits, and a few other items. Great stuff.
  14. In the words of Jim Morrison: Five to one, babyOne in fiveNo one here gets out alive
  15. Not starting a fight, just a debate. Have to disagree with you. No, the menus aren't the same, but they fall into the "space" of gourmet interior and coastal Mexican food occupied by El Naranjo, Suerte (forgot about that one until it was mentioned above), Manuel's, Hugo's, Javier's, ATX, etc.
  16. Javier’s is another place I’ve always liked, but could use an update as well. It is a crazy scene on weekend nights, however
  17. I have no issue with this (i.e. good food is good whether it’s leading edge or not), but FSM holds itself out as high-end Mexican and competes in that “space.” Price wise, it is. Quality-wise, it no longer is
  18. Never liked her. I will say that we ate Brunch at Koko Head Cafe in Honolulu, and it really good. Voltaggio seems to be going strong this year.
  19. This. Menu really needs an update, and the last couple of times we’ve been there the food was just OK. Sadly, FSM is nowhere near the leading edge of creative, high-end Mexican cuisine. Bar is nice for margaritas and appetizers. In Austin, ATX Cocina, Comedor and El Naranjo have passed FSM for “gourmet” Mexican.
  20. Well, for the time being it’s the kitchen table Posted this elsewhere, but Fleming’s is running $40 off on any order over $100. That means their Tomahawk Tuesday (2 sales, a 35 oz. Tomahawk, 2 sides and 2 desserts), which goes for $125, is now $85. So that was last night’s date night, with a bottle of wine
  21. So just got takeout from Fleming’s. I know it’s not local, but we’ve been going to the Fleming’s at the Domain for years. The workers are locals, and we have a waiter we always go to. On Tuesdays, they always run “Tomahawk Tuesday.” For $125, you get 2 salads, a 35 oz Tomahawk, 2 sides and 2 desserts. They are now running $40 off any night on orders over $100. So for now you get that for $85. Crazy deal.
