  1. Similar view, facing West from The Peaks:
  2. FWIW — the road from Rico is better. Been stuck on the road from Placerville due to mudslides (hillside runs right along the road in several places on 145)
  3. It is a pretty easy drive. There is the one “pass” not too far from the Ralph Lauren ranch, but it’s about the least intimidating pass I’ve ever been on
  4. Ridgway is almost an hour away. To Mountain Village, 30 minutes is Placerville to the West, or Rico to the South.
  5. What do you serve to pair with beating a weak team by just enough for Tom to keep his job? Or should we find some side dishes that guarantee a loss by a wide margin?
  6. Yep. Been there many times. No weekend ski traffic (compared to areas closer to major cities) = shorter lift lines. And incredibly scenic, winter or summer
  7. Universal. They work great with red, white and champagne. Also takes less space to store with only needing one stem for all. I know many who have gone to using teh Zalto Universal stems, including some high end wineries for tastings

The Tumble 22 on Lake Austin Blvd is, what, 3 miles from that site?
  9. Does she not like you or something ?
  10. Brisket looks good. Kraft mac and cheese not so much. If you’re going to spend that much time on a brisket, use some of teh waiting time to make a proper mac and cheese.
  11. Oh, I’ll still go to Valentina’s as this is the first “off” experience I’ve had. L & L is a great choice as well. And nothing wrong with Terry Black’s. Especially the beef ribs.
  12. Love Valentina’s, but just had a mixed experience there. Had preordered for Christmas. Got a chicken enchilada casserole for Christmas Eve, which was excellent. Got a brisket and potatoes for Christmas. Potatoes were supposed to be 32 oz. Turned out to be 17.5 oz on the food scale at home. Worse, the brisket, though tasty was dry and even a bit stringy in parts. Reheated using sous vide (and about 30 minutes on the Traeger at about 200 after taking out if the vacuum pack) so I don’t think the reheating was the issue. Fortunately, the tortillas were spot on. Got extra, so still eating on them.
  13. I think that’s the way a lot of people (including me) are about Caymus. Years ago I would drink it, then moved on. Everything the Wagner family makes is too sweet, but they sell a ton of it. I see that one was a Special Selection, which is at least aged, and aged in oak, unlike the base wine. I have a bottle of the 2013 Mascot left — drank one, gifted one, and letting the other lay down a while. How was it after the decant?
  14. It looks like the “one household” rule was announced after he booked, if you look at the posts when he said he had booked which was 11/13 at the latest (code red policy officially announced 11/19). Now, the question is whether he could have received a full refund if he’d canceled when it was announced.
  15. Nice lineup. Except for the Caymus.
  16. It can work because 5 0f the 6 major movie studios own or have an affiliated company that owns a major streaming platform. Sony is the exception.
  17. Tony C’s schtick is teh coal-fired pizza, a la Grimaldi’s. Had teh pizza from the Hill COuntry Galleria location a couple of times — not top-tier, but good
  18. Last night’s effort
  19. DDD always has good suggestions (and Bedrock makes nice wines) but as a counterpoint I’d say that a cab with firm tannins can cut through the fat from a prime rib. If you want something in the $50-60 range that is easy to find and would pair, try Stag’s Leap Artemis. Full without being overpowering.
  20. His career earnings are $19,235,000. Plus endorsements. Plus his business investments. Likely a coaching future. He’s doing fine, and has earned it.
  21. Maybe we can recruit Bill McCartney to fill in
