  1. The Wizards are doomed to treadmill status with this roster. The surest way to doom your future is to overpay for the talent/production you get back in return. Next year they have over 106 million dollars committed to just four players (Beal,Wall,Porter,Mahinmi) and beyond that are paying 40+ million alone to Wall, and 46.8 million in 2002-2023 season. Ouch. Wall isn't a terrible player at all, but no way is he worth that kind of money and it cripples your other salary slots to truly build a great team. If you're going to commit 40+ million, it had better be with a true superstar (and that is a very small list, maybe 4-5 players rate that money I think when you take age into account too)
  2. I don't get that vibe at all but that may be true for some people -- I think one can easily mean that the Republican platform of spending money to try and enforce social conservatism is a key problem for a fiscal conservative. (which it is for me) The government could leave people alone both fiscally and in general on social issues like sexual orientation, religion, bathroom use, contraception, etc. Money better spent elsewhere solving real problems.
  3. I live in Hawaii part of the year and am very familiar with Tulsi and also her father who is a State Senator. A very close friend of mine has helped counsel Tulsi's father politically for over a decade and helped with some initial Tulsi advice way at the beginning. Tulsi is VERY ambitious and will not likely just be satisfied winning easy House elections in Hawaii for the next 20-30 years which could be the case if she wanted to go that route. She has some conservative roots both from family and other affiliations but above anything else, she is opportunistic. You'd have to be to try running for President while being under 40 years old. She definitely took some risk in the Sanders/Clinton DNC stuff to be sure.
  4. Hard question, but for me I would say more fiscal responsibility, less focus on bathrooms, transgenders, and bakeries selling cakes to LGBT people. These are losing issues long-term, the world is changing and they need to react to that reality. Heavy, heavy. focus on stopping government waste, corruption, and greed in bloated government programs that waste far too much money because of the system as it exists right now. (this is a problem for both parties) Focus on extreme transparency in how government projects are created, written, and especially funded with all information easily available on all major spending for scrutiny with multiple audits by non-partisan entities that are also transparent and available for the media/public. Less deficit spending and actually mean it. Abandon say 500k and more salaries, and focus on a massive tax cut for the middle class without having to break the budget because you haven't cut the top rates. Sacrifice the current healthcare platform and convert to a model more based on utilities and focus on creating a better system for overall healthcare used in many countries that are poorer than us yet have better healthcare outcomes and more efficiency. That's a hugely difficult shift, but healthcare works in a lot of places better than here and with many poorer countries. Fight on the idea that bloated college debt is always the best route for everyone -- it's not actually. Create real job training for the future in tech/innovative industries to give many Americans the opportunity to bootstrap beyond their starting place in life without having to get 100k in debt for a 30k job that puts you in debt for a decade or longer. The truth is that many jobs here now will be useless in 20 years and they should be the party to have a vision for the future. Bottom line even more: A VISION for the future, not division and rhetoric. Why did 1994 go so well with them? They actually presented a vision that resonated with people, when is the last time either party actually articulated a true vision versus attack back and forth? You don't have to budge much on some issues (guns, certain reasonable social issues, tough on crime) as you can't please everyone. Just these off the top of my head, I bet there is so much more out there I suppose...
  5. Yeah's he fine especially for his age and four games into his career. He right now needs to just focus on being up to par mentally on the speed of the game because his skill level is already high. He could take a little better care of the ball and slightly better shot selection at times, but these are very small nitpicks for so early in the season. Dallas should be happy so far I think.
  6. The picks would likely have to be staggered every other year over 7-8 years, so the last two picks might end up decent if Paul ages out or retires and there is a drop off, but they still have to make the salaries work so more moving parts needed for sure. I'm not sure 4 first rounders (two likely very late 20s and the other two probably at best late teens) are worth a single Top 3-5 pick in the right draft.
  7. It was cool to see 2016 Steph again, that was an old school cheat code video game session. Wow. In other news to me, I really like how both Kawhi and Giannis look so far, I am already starting to think they are serious MVP candidates (at least more than I thought initially coming into the season) but we'll see after 20 games or so. I really like Toronto's defensive potential, they just have so many long and quick defenders. They definitely can beat Boston if they play well - and right now I still favor Boston - but Toronto having Kawhi is a big difference from DeRozen if he plays in the playoffs at a high level. Really bad loss by Dallas, that is a game they could and should have won, but still nice seeing the young kids develop game by game.
  8. Houston shouldn't give up just yet -- there is actually a pretty good chance there will be some drop off from both Iggy and Draymond this year. Cousins might not end up that healthy. Curry could get injured. You never know.
  9. I don't think a lot had Trae Top 3 but most mock drafts and analysts had Trae over Sexton and both were drafted at about where they were expected. I recall most mock drafts and analysts having Trae between 5-6 a lot, and Sexton sometimes crept up that high but mostly he was 7 or lower and he went 8. One I recall that was very close had Trae at # 8 and then Sexton at # 9 (SI). Trae would have gone higher if he was a little bigger (his wingspan is the much more concerning measurable than his height) and faster , that's just how it goes for smaller players, always going to be some skepticism there. He should pile up some good stats on the roster they have right now, so it's a great learning opportunity for him to get a lot of experience this year.
  10. Wait about ten games before trying to read anything but this is also a worse loss than any they suffered all of last year too. Mirotic was insanely hot, and Randle was really good too. If those two are consistently playing well, New Orleans is a pretty good team because you know Davis will bring it.
  11. Indeed, voir dick is a critical component of jury selection.
  12. Vile. Horrible. That has nothing to do with politics and everything about who someone is as a human being.
  13. Leach reminds me of a talented indie filmmaker, as you know there is some real creativity and talent there that pushes the boundaries in a good way, but the risk aversion is also there for the corporate (blue blood programs) studios that want specific metrics/personalities for their program heads.
  14. I feel like Shane has coaching potential down the road and if Tom can help him with that goal, that would be really great.
  15. Pelicans look great, Mirotic is amazing tonight. ------------ Finals: Golden State over Boston MVP: LeBron James barely over AD by virtue of record DPOY: Gobert Most Improved: Siakim 6th Man: Williams ROY: Doncic
  16. I've liked Ennis so far, I think he will be ok for the team and hopefully there is not a drop off defensively. If healthy, this is still a great team.

I think having Watson and Ingram for this year is just fine. With Coach Hand here now, I think things long-term are going to be great in both recruiting and development because I really felt the RBs had little to no chance last year to be great with the OL play. Our run blocking is not on point yet, but I feel like they are being coached much better and developing as players which bodes well with the next batch of players and beyond. I'd like to see Ingram next year (did he get stronger in the weight room, did he develop more sophistication in understanding the block/pass/run schemes) as a barometer as well.
  18. 1) Waste and corruption in government 2) Fiscal efficiency - more value to citizens per dollar spent 3) Modernizing America and preparing ahead of time (and jobs/training) for the reality of a future with new technologies making many current skills obsolete
  19. There are a couple of church lots right near/on campus (near College of Communication building side and 27th garage) with $20 donations usually, I've always had an easy time parking there and we like walking the campus and looking around on the way to the stadium. I usually am not getting there too early (about 45 mins prior to kickoff) and it's always easy to get a spot. I like that area because I can get out of there pretty quickly.
  20. I think they will have to really highlight her normal background growing up as much as possible to connect her better with normal Americans who might initially see her as an old, white, Northeast liberal in an ivory tower. Carter and Clinton were Southerners that could play well to a broader demographic and I think that helped for those specific campaigns. Obama was young, dynamic, racially mixed, with a compelling personality and vision. I don't see Warren with these natural advantages starting out but her background is a good story for her campaign. Her populist stances could help with some Clinton defectors who went with Trump but her very strong anti-corporate stances could tweak some specific types of independents too, so they should hear she was a Republican (during general election mostly) in the past to try and show some balance. I think the Democrats should pick someone else personally, but the biggest factor in my humble opinion for 2020 will be the strength of feeling towards/against Trump more than any specific candidate as long as it's not a terrible choice.

    Cruz vs Beto

Being completely fair, I personally find Heller kind of comparable to Roe. I am not 100% convinced that a pure originalist bent shows that either right was specifically geared as a right the specific ways the framers had written, but fully support both cases anyway.
  22. I'm definitely open to this type of proposal/solution versus what we have now, and I think people should really in their mind try to separate healthcare as a separate classification from typical markets.

    Cruz vs Beto

Well, I will definitely respectfully disagree with the first sentence -- for some people that is literally life and death for them and even one abortion taking place in America is rage for them. I don't agree with this at all, but I think there is a decent minority in the Republican party that feels this way and always will. Koramatsu is a shameful case and I personally know many people impacted by that decision. Maybe I'm just more optimistic about abortion clinics than you are, but I am not as worried about it, but to be fair certainly I'm no expert in the financing/health of abortion clinics.
  24. Well I definitely buy that our current healthcare system is completely broken and inefficient compared to numerous other countries on this planet and the evidence is clear and pervasive in many other countries with less to work with overall. That could be an entire book on its own but suffice to say I am comfortable being a free markets advocate but also advocating for a much different healthcare system in this country.
