  1. I ate at the original Guido's before the hurricane destroyed it.
  2. I bet Chaminade is dying to play Tenn.😁
  3. They should have put Jimbo's name on the tag. Would have solved their problems.
  4. Thanks. I think that Dr Cooley was on that team.
  5. I think they got to the final four.
  6. My eligibility was up before kanye was born.
  7. Welcome to the Longhorn Basketball Family. Young men with initials tend to do well here. Work hard, study hard and you have the opportunity that few have at your age to have an amazing life.
  8. That's a picture from the early 30s. Probably around Armybrat's 3rd senior year.
  9. My prayers to your family and everyone that has lost a loved one. I lost my grandfather in '79 and my little sister a couple of years ago. I've been a survivor for almost 30 years. As others have said, stay positive. This may sound odd but don't let anyone show any sympathy. Its worthless and counterproductive. Be there to support your family. . As a poster above said, beating cancer is like running a marathon. You don't run 26 miles, you run 1 mile 26 times. I had to go through my cancer alone so every morning when I had to drive myself to the hospital, I would tell myself that I know I am going to die but today's not the day. You beat cancer 1 day at a time. Stay positive and remember that cancer isn't necessarily a death sentence. Things will be fine for you and your family.
  10. Congrats young man. Work hard and someday a scholarship may come your way. Regardless, have a great time and kick ass in practice.
  11. caddy, you nailed it and thanks for mentioning Fonde. I would go there but only to watch and learn. You had pros, UH kids and high school kids there playing every day in the summer. Most high school bball coaches were just coaches who didn't coach football. The UIL sucked big time. One other comment, back in those days there was only minimal support from the AD for hoops. Our coaches basically ran the program on crumbs.
  12. I can tell you for a fact that Armybrat's man cave is a real cave.
  13. and just got beat by a team that got beat by Grambling. by 9 points. At least it wasn't Chaminade.
  14. aggy has been saying this before Queen Elizabeth was Queen Elizabeth.
  15. If I remember correctly, we have/had a member of the UT baseball team whose grandfather was the president when the school was called Houston Baptist College.
  16. I can't remember either. Sorry.
  17. Agreed.
  18. Harrison, great post. One slight change. Freshmen could not play varsity but that changed, and freshmen were able to play varsity starting in 1972. Also, you are correct about dunking. It was illegal Screwed me bigtime.
  19. Dag nabbit! Did I actually say that? That what I was going to say, You beat me to it but you're right...
  20. You may want to call Lew by his current name so most of the young people will know who you are talking about.
  21. underdog, HOT has some interesting memories. HOT was actually nothing more than a big barn with a basketball court at one end. I don't know if this was planned but I wouldn't put this past the bears but every time we went there, they had an FFA convention. The visitors' locker room was at the other end from the court.so we had to literally walk-through livestock and their droppings. I still can't stop laughing about that to this day. Fortunately, we didn't have any livestock casualties. That day, we were tied with Tech for 1st place. They lost that afternoon to SMU I believe so we went into this game knowing that if we won., we were SWC champs. Now for all of you coaches or thinking about being a hoops coach, remember this. Baylor came out in a diamond and 1 and the 1 was covering Larry. Obviously, the purpose was to keep Larry as far away from the ball as possible. He was being covered by a guard, so our coaches put into a 2-1-2 with Larry roaming the lane. It was a great move and I think that we scored roughly 90+ points and won the SWC and Larry won SWC MVP for the second time. Good memories. And yes, that may have been the worst injury in UT hoops history.
  22. Thanks. I knew that he didn't have a good year at the plate, but I am surprised that his defense was that bad. It seemed like he was making great defensive plays every game.
  23. Guys, sorry if already posted. Would Rizzo be a good replacement if Gurriel goes elsewhere. Be curious to hear from some of you that follow this stuff more closely than I do. Thanks.
  24. and when the lights came on, he played great.
