  1. I understand. Freshmen have their ups and downs but he is a major contributor in many different ways.
  2. He's a freshman, He will be fine. Great win.
  3. We're a basketball school!! Well, we were for a couple of hours.😁
  4. Great game guys. Enjoy the win today and tomorrow morning get focused on the next game.
  5. How many stars does this recruit have?
  6. Its not about sympathy. Its about reality. The coaches didn't fumble the ball at the goal line against TCU. Its not the coaches fault that our punter took an extra 5 steps before having the punt blocked against OU less the coaches told him to take those extra steps. The Iowa State game is a different story. Coaches at all levels make mistakes. I am not making excuses for coaches but its really easy to be a Monday morning QB. If a young man decides to commit to another school, sometimes it could be due to the coaches but there may be a number of other reasons why they go elsewhere.
  7. Thanks for some common sense. Every program in the country has kids that are upset with the coaches for a variety of reasons. Most of the time but not always, its not the coaches fault. Too many kids come to a major program and expect the same treatment that they received in high school and when it doesn't happen, its the coaches fault. Coaches get too much credit for good things and too much blame when things go bad.
  8. Sad, Heart attack Monday. He was 38. RIP.
  9. We were told by the Houston media that if we didn't show up, it would be a 2-0 forfeit instead of getting whipped by 20. Here is a quick recruiting story. When Larry played at Hobbs, they were a national power like Wheatley in Houston. They probably averaged close to 100 points a game with the old rules. On Larry's team, the starting center was a 6'9 center whose name I think was Kyle Williams. Every coach in the country including us wanted Kyle. While our coaches were watching him play one game. they kept noticing some skinny black kid. They did some homework and offered Larry and he was the third black hoops student athlete to come to Texas. Kyle would up going to Kansas State when the great Jack Hartman was their coach. You are right about the kind of young man Larry was.
  10. Wrong. Larry could do it all. Sidney could jump out of the gym. That was his main strength. As far as Larry's senior year, go and look at the records of the teams we played and their records. Larry would have been drafted higher but had 2 bad knees. And several of Abe's players were recruited before he got there. He also had the advantage of a new gym Also, DKR when he retired as head football coach was more open to basketball then when he was also football coach. In the 71-72 March Madness, Larry single handed beat Dwight Jones and Dwight Davis by scoring 23 points and getting 14 rebounds against UH in Las Cruces. UH was about a 20 point favorite.. Both of them if I remember correctly were NBA lottery picks. We also beat Memphis State at Mid South when they got into the finals against UCLA.I was comparing Larry as an individual player. Of course teams in the later years were better.
  11. Great post. Thats why he is in my starting lineup. I believe that he was the third black student athlete to earn a scholarship bball at UT. Sam Bradley was the first around 1968 or so, Jimmy Blacklock was the second in 1969 I think and he was a JC transfer from Tyler JC and Larry was the third. I think that Spider Johnson was also in Larry's class but he left for some reason after his freshman year. Larry was injured right before conference started his junior year so he was out or he would have won MVP again.. You're right about being a football school. DKR was a great coach but he sucked as an AD. I don't remember what year it was but I believe that we started my black kids.3 than the football team did,2. Thanks for mentioning Larry. He was the best player in the SWC in the 70s and that includes when UH came in.
  12. Thanks for the link. Much appreciated. Great win.

  18. Link please. Thanks
  19. I go back to 62 with you. I agree with you but I wouldn't mind one or two more World Series Championships. Now I just die a little every week with the Texans.
  20. Last Friday, the guys on one of the high school football shows said they thought he was the best running back in the state. Thats their opinion but they watch a lot of high school football.
  21. LHN link please. Thanks in advance.
  22. I remember just about everyone that played even before you were born. Practice is a different animal but then again, you probably didn't participate in many practices so you wouldn't understand..
  23. You could eat 3 lunches and it wouldn't change the first sentence.
