  1. Wrong. Larry could do it all. Sidney could jump out of the gym. That was his main strength. As far as Larry's senior year, go and look at the records of the teams we played and their records. Larry would have been drafted higher but had 2 bad knees. And several of Abe's players were recruited before he got there. He also had the advantage of a new gym Also, DKR when he retired as head football coach was more open to basketball then when he was also football coach. In the 71-72 March Madness, Larry single handed beat Dwight Jones and Dwight Davis by scoring 23 points and getting 14 rebounds against UH in Las Cruces. UH was about a 20 point favorite.. Both of them if I remember correctly were NBA lottery picks. We also beat Memphis State at Mid South when they got into the finals against UCLA.I was comparing Larry as an individual player. Of course teams in the later years were better.
  2. Great post. Thats why he is in my starting lineup. I believe that he was the third black student athlete to earn a scholarship bball at UT. Sam Bradley was the first around 1968 or so, Jimmy Blacklock was the second in 1969 I think and he was a JC transfer from Tyler JC and Larry was the third. I think that Spider Johnson was also in Larry's class but he left for some reason after his freshman year. Larry was injured right before conference started his junior year so he was out or he would have won MVP again.. You're right about being a football school. DKR was a great coach but he sucked as an AD. I don't remember what year it was but I believe that we started my black kids.3 than the football team did,2. Thanks for mentioning Larry. He was the best player in the SWC in the 70s and that includes when UH came in.
  3. Thanks for the link. Much appreciated. Great win.
  4. Thanks for the picture. Hurry up and finish it!
  5. Thanks for the update, dallas. Keep up the good work.
  6. Guys, thanks for all of your LHN help. Much appreciated.
  7. I saw that and I appreciate your help but all that I see is Tom Herman. I don't want to see Tom Herman right now. lol
  8. I go back to 62 with you. I agree with you but I wouldn't mind one or two more World Series Championships. Now I just die a little every week with the Texans.
  9. Last Friday, the guys on one of the high school football shows said they thought he was the best running back in the state. Thats their opinion but they watch a lot of high school football.
  10. I remember just about everyone that played even before you were born. Practice is a different animal but then again, you probably didn't participate in many practices so you wouldn't understand..
  11. You could eat 3 lunches and it wouldn't change the first sentence.
  12. New season and you're still a clueless village idiot. Newsflash. With maybe a couple of occasional exceptions, no team at any level sets proper screens. In a proper screen, the ball handler actually rubs against the screener so there is no room for the defender to go through him. You don't dribble 3 feet behind the screener. Go watch a Duke game. Kentucky game, Tennessee game or any pro game and watch all of the improper screening.. Please stick to telling the board who the next hot 16 year old young man is.
  13. Tyrone passed several years ago. Sadly so did Gary Goodner and I believe that Rich Parsons has as well. Saddest of all was Hank Bauerschlag passing in I believe 1979 the day after he found out that he was going to be a Dad. Breaks my heart to this day. I haven't been able to make a reunion in the last couple of years so I am not sure and hope there hasn't been anyone else besides Lynn Howden. Tyrone was a good guy.
  14. As long as we play tough defense, we should be a tough out for any team.
  15. Guys, please quit acting like idiots. Whenever a young man moves to the next level, there is an adjustment period. Things that these kids do in high school don't always translate well to the college game. Greg needs to and will learn that he can't just jump over kids like he did in high school. Probably for the first time, he is playing against competition that is as tall as he is, as strong as he is, a much narrower talent gap and in many cases are more experienced than he is. The more he plays, the more he will learn how to play at this level and he is getting the coaching he needs to not only play better but also playing smarter. Just give the young man more than 5 games. The game will begin to slow down for him. He will be fine.
  16. I thought that a T Man was a former letterman. Now its food?
  17. My uncle actually helped Ninfa get started in the restaurant business at the Navigation location. Long time ago.
  18. Agreed. Any time a young man goes to the next level, there is an adjustment period. It could be a couple of games to maybe an entire season. He is moving a little faster than sometimes he needs to but soon the game should be slowing down for him. Its not like he doesn't have the ability to shoot 3s. He will be fine.
  19. shouldn't there be a couple of fried shrimp somewhere on the shorts?
