  1. Being a highly ranked young man is no guarantee of success. Going to college gives a young man a chance to step up to better competition than high school. It seems from a list of the top 10, all but one choses college but that list could be outdated.
  2. I think that Johnny was in 75 and Ron was the following year but there were not far apart.
  3. Ron was a couple years later. I think 76 or 77. I think my sophomore year we had more black starters than the football team did. I remember Philip Stroud but don't remember his first year but I think it was late 70s. If I remember correctly, a year after Baxter, 2 kids from Los Angeles...Johnson and Shepherd played for us.
  4. I am not sure that I want to answer you. lol The first black player at UT if I am not mistaken was Jimmy Blacklock who was a junior college transfer in 1970. His second year as a senior, he started against UH at Las Cruces. His senior year, Larry Robinson was the second black to come to UT but he had to play frosh ball because freshmen could play varsity sports. The next year when he was a sophomore, freshmen could start playing varsity. After Larry and this is from memory, there was Philip Davis, James Price, Ed Johnson, the late Tyrone Johnson, Johnny Moore and the late Gary Goodner. I may have left out a couple for which I apologize. I probably am close to the age you think I am but thank goodness for Texas humidity, I have 30 something wimmens chasing after me. OK, maybe 40 somethings. OK, maybe 50 somethings.
  5. If I was a top high school DB, I would much rather play against SEC teams than BIg12 offenses every week.
  6. Welcome to the Longhorn Basketball Family young man. Work hard, play hard and study hard. Have a great career on and then off the court. Great job coaches.
  7. Thanks again for taking the time to post intelligent responses. It is appreciated.
  8. Once upon a time, the NBA draft was 7 rounds. Maybe some of you can help me out with this league. I understand the going to school vs the league arguments. Both sides have fair points. Having said that, explain the endorsements to me. Take Brown since we all know him. He will make 400k and then get endorsements Take a shoe contract. How many lids in Chicago or Houston can't wait to get Greg Brown sneakers.. Is this more of a locking in of a kid in case he makes it big in the league. What if he fails. Very few fans know who any of these kids are. Will these kids get more exposure in the league than perhaps March Madness. Do they go to this league for 1 year and then go into the draft? Are these kids going to sign with agents. You give an 18 year old who is away from home for the first time about 300-400k and how long will it be before that money is gone? For some kids, this may be the right option. I am not sure its a great option for all the kids.
  9. You may be right but unless things have changed, he may be able to get a disability policy while he is in college and I have to believe but could be wrong but a college degree long term could be a better investment than getting paid for one year and thats it. Probably depends on the individual.
  10. This. And bring back Dandy Don and Kern Tips for the play by play.
  11. Thats what I thought. Thanks.
  12. I could be mistaken but wasn't Iba Eddie's coach in the past or am I thinking of another coach.
  13. Sorry, but he was a piece of crap as a coach with some of the crap he pulled. This is called karma. I don't wish him ill but screw the guy.
  14. Great coach but was an SOB at pig.
  15. Jimmy started the game against UH in Las Cruces. Good guy. I think he should be about 70 now.
  16. Make more posts like this one and less bitching posts. Seriously.
  17. Or maybe they should come to Texas and help the program win the Big12 championship and then go from there..
  18. I thought that Bud Adams had already passed away. Evidently he s still alive and living inside Bob's brain.
  19. Then he had a different reason. Maybe he thought that Davis could provide more offense and that was how we would win. If I ever meet him, I will ask him.
  20. This isn't rocket science. Bagley was being covered by Davis. He's a guard. The mismatch on the other end was that if Davis could hit a shot or two from the outside, that could draw Bagley out from the basket and possibly open up he inside for his teammates. As you even admitted, I was being asked questions by a couple of posters. If I missed a question, sue me. I have probably answered more questions than just about anyone on this board. You're not going to change my mind. I am not going to change your mind and I could care Move on.
  21. I've answered plenty of questions including some of yours. If I missed one or two, so be it.
