  1. I was there. What a game and whoever talked about how great the announcers were back then was right. Today, you stick a former jock in the booth. My fondest memories from those days came from the Cotton Bowl when the broadcast started with ...This is Lindsey Nelson and he was wearing his jacket with 20 different colors. After the game, I go back to my car and just as I am opening the door, I noticed that both of my back tires had been stolen. Didn't get home till about 4 AM but it was worth it.
  2. No. Please keep posting. No one cares what the board expert thinks.
  3. And he has been great coming of the bench.
  4. I have no idea what your rambling was in your above post and quite bluntly I could care less. But commenting on what Coach Barnes said is more proof that you have no clue. Coach Barnes who I knew a lot better than you did was referring to experience. What you don't have the ability to understand is the huge leap in physicality that these kids face when coming to the next level. You play them too much now and their legs will be gone by February and that experience won't matter. And not that you would believe this but Coach Smart is a much better judge about playing time than either of us. If he wants to start a shorthorn on occasion thats fine with me. And your last comment about Long proves again you don't know what you're talking about. Successful teams need a 6th man off the bench to provide a spark for their team. And right now, Coach Smart likes him off the bench. Ever hear of any 6th man awards.
  5. Its not who starts but who finishes. Coach Smart is doing the right thing. Very few freshmen are able to make the jump physically from high school to college. You start giving the young kids too much time early in the season and they will have dead legs when the season really counts. Sometimes a young man like Long is more valuable off the bench. I don't care what the score is at any point of the game other when the clock is at zeros. You probably think that the runner who gets to the 10 mile mark first in a marathon wins.
  6. Not only the points and assists but just as important is the loss of their leadership. Thats tougher to replace than points. It will be interesting to see who if anyone steps up for them. Never count out Huggie.
  7. Agreed. They have some young guys that can score. The problem that they will probably have is dead legs at the end of the season. They have an experienced coach but some things are out of your control.
  8. Welcome to the Longhorn Basketball Family. Come to campus ready to work hard in the classroom, on the court and play hard in your free time. Making smart decisions now can result in a wonderful future.
  9. Kat, thats a great question. It may depend on the situation. Some very well may but thats why we are working to find a bone marrow match for Andrew. If you can find a match and do a bone marrow transplant, that may be enough. I have a cousin that was on his death bed and at the last minute, they found a match and for the past several years, he has not needed any treatments. I know how badly Andrew wants to contribute and be a good team mate but he needs to look at the big picture and get well. Then he can come back hopefully stronger than ever.
  10. He needs to redshirt, get through his treatments and come back and have a great senior year.
  11. If you're talking about Johnny Ringo, aka John Wayne, may you be forced to mate with one of Vic's wimmins.
  12. Catdaddy, I understand your point but lets use a football example. Would you rather root for a team like Tech that can be really exciting but is .500 or the Purple Wizard whose teams are more fundamentally sound and conservative but has a better record? Maybe its a personal preference.
  13. What I do know is that I know more than a piece of trash like you. Putz.
  14. Quit using the Erwin Center as an excuse. I have probably been to more college gyms than anyone on this board. We went to some really bad gyms like the old Barnhill. It had dirt around the court. It had wooden bleachers and behind the bleachers, they had a batting cage and pens for the FFA animals. And yet, the fans would show because they were fans. The Holler House had a corrugated steel wall behind one of the baskets with no seating but they showed because they supported their team.. Fans will either show because they're fans or they won't.
  15. You say that as a joke but in prehistoric times, rims would be slightly tightened or loosened and something our resident expert didn't know is that if we were playing a team that liked to run more than we did, our managers would put new nets on the rim and not stretch them out so when the ball went through the nets, it would be slowed down a little giving us an extra second to get back on defense. Thats called the home court advantage.
  16. Then why isn't he coaching at a Power 5 school with a resume like that. And before you make a total fool out of yourself, I know far more about him and his Dad than you do so don't pull that crap on me.
  17. Good job guys. You may not always play well but when you keep playing hard, good things can happen.
  18. Welcome to the Longhorn Basketball Family. We have a long tradition of Bakers wearing burnt orange. OK, a short tradition but welcome!
  19. when he wasn't gassing my family.
