  1. I'm dubious but hopeful. If Sony puts in money where it is needed and stays out of the way, could be good. Big companies aren't known for that though. Best case is probably that it's such a small part of their film business that no one really pays attention to it and it can just do its' thing.
  2. Watched "Scoop" with my wife last night. It's about the booking of Prince Andrew on News Night in the UK and his disastrous interview regarding Jeffrey Epstein (the New York financier). Definitely not essential, but interesting enough for your time. If your wife is interested in the royals and their insanity, you can get some easy points here.
  3. The CF should be allowed to kick the 3B in the nuts.
  4. Yeah, that’s been fun too. They’ve basically turned the Village theater into a repertory theater. We’ve seen multiple kids movies as a family (Snow White, Cars, Little Mermaid) and I have seen Speed and Alien (I know Alien was a larger rerelease) there the last few months. Speed and Alien back on the big screen was dope and everyone was having a great time in the theater together.
  5. Agree with this. I almost go exclusively to the Alamo in Austin (usually Village or South Lamar). I really enjoy the pre show and their effort to make it more of an event with specialty food and drink. I rarely (if ever) buy anything specialty but it makes me feel like they at least give a shit. I know it’s ultimately a money making endeavor, but I feel like the people who program and the people who work there are movie people. I never get that feeling the rare times I go elsewhere. I also enjoy the limited previews/commercials. They’ll still show 10-15 minutes of previews but I enjoy previews. What I don’t enjoy is 5-8 minutes of commercials I see at home, then 10-15 minutes of previews. I was in Houston for a few months last fall and had to use the AMC and the commercials drove me insane. Also, the preshow was just commercials or other nonsense.

    The Wire

This was a true story relayed to Simon when he was writing Homicide: Life on the Killing Streets. I can’t remember if it made it into the book (the filmed scene may have overtaken the book story in my head), but that book is great. So many wild stories.
  7. Wouldn’t shock me if Sainz isn’t interested in going to Red Bull. He’s spent years behind Mr McLaren and Mr Ferrari. He may want to be #1 on a team for a change.
  8. I think it is though, right? I know the rights are super messy, but Venom was in the post credits of No Way Home. I know Spider-Man has its own rights mess, but he has been part of the McU. Also, the YouTube link literally has Marvel in the top corner.
  9. Glad it’s available. I know the rights to this one were super messy, so there was a chance that it was going to be severely delayed. It’s great and everyone should watch it.
  10. So did the Spice Girls.
  11. Would “All That You Cant Leave Behind” count? 9 years and 2 misfires since Achtung Baby.
  12. Not sure there is a better, "Whatever, just fuck off" song than this one:
  13. So, where are we now? Two pretty big disappointments this month. I know the easy targets are the youths, but it seems like it's really the lack of adults going to movies. Take a look at the winners over the last 6 months (Anyone But You, Wonka, Kung Fu Panda 4, GxK, Apes) and they are all targeted at a younger audience. Even something like Challengers got a ton of buzz just for being a Zendaya movie. On the other hand, movies that are aimed at adults, like Furiosa and The Fall Guy are struggling. Adults just aren't motivated to go out (find a sitter, etc) when they know they can stay home and watch it in a month. It seems like an inversion of what would be expected. Dune is a little bit of a special case as it is a continuation of a big movie, long standing IP and has some massive young stars. It brings in people of all types. I guess we'll see what happens over the summer, but it doesn't look promising for the "adult" movies out there.
  14. Saw St Vincent at Bottle Rock last night. Fucking rocked it out. “Broken Man”, in particular, ruled. Just a bonafide rock star.
  15. I have been a stutterer all my life. Not terrible, but it pops up, particularly if I am nervous or excited or it is a loud place. I did therapy for years and it is for sure better than when I was a kid. It definitely hurt my confidence growing up and stopped me from doing various things I would have done otherwise. I still don’t love meeting knew people or speaking to people on the phone (phone for some reason can be a trigger). Overall though I got through it and have somehow found myself leading a great life. Sorry, just started talking and kept going. My point to the above is that I have mentioned this to many people who make comments about Biden’s flubs. As mentioned above, you have your find synonyms when you see a road block in front and you have to find a new route, even mid sentence. Not to brag on myself, but it’s a weird kind of super power. That said, to others it can make things sounds super disjointed. I don’t know if it sunk in long term for any of those people but at least for a moment, it gave them an alternative to “he’s just too old!”
  16. I’m irrationally excited for this.
  17. So, if he’s the one to break and rebuild the federal government, why didn’t he just do that last time?

Well, get on with it motherfuck…
  19. Summer of Powell is starting in a couple of weeks. An incredibly well liked indy movie on Netflix and a massive blockbuster.
  20. So, for months, I have been trying to get my head around why vouchers are good. Last night, I was thinking about the flow of the voucher program in regards to Paragon Prep here in Austin. I don’t know their tuition, but let’s assume it’s $10k. So, any student would get $10k of taxpayer money to decide where to go to school, so Paragon Prep gets that and the family would owe $0. Great for the family! But Paragon Prep already gets more applicants than they accept, so they decide to up tuition to $15k. They would get the $10k from the taxpayer funds and then $5k from the family. Is that right? So Paragon Prep just gets to raise their revenue by 50% on the backs of state taxpayers? Oh, did I mention that Paragon is owned by a PE Fund owned by “Chinese persons residing in Hong Kong”? So, now we’re just shipping Texas tax dollars to Hong Kong?
  21. Saw this a few weeks ago as well and really liked it. I’m not a big horror fan, but I like those dudes that directed it, so I went. They did the last two Screams, which I enjoyed and Ready Or Not, which is a movie I love and watch when I catch it on TV. I heard someone say they wished they could have kept the vampire reveal out of the marketing and it would have been so much cooler, but may have been harder to get asses in the seats.
  22. Scottie tried out a round over par and did not care for it.
  23. After the middle of the 3rd, Mavs had 1 turnover. Throw out refs and all that BS. That is the difference and why they won.
  24. MTG can talk shit all she wants and post however many workout videos she wants. She is all bark and no bite. If she ever discussed these things with Crockett in the ring, it would be over about 5 seconds in. Ultimately, these people know they’re cowards, but they have an insatiable need to fool everyone else into thinking they’re not.
