  1. A bit of a lazy take that has a healthy dose of anti-Fuente bias to it. I don’t like to paint with broad strokes like that. If Sark has worked with this guy daily for two years and believes he fits with his vision for an elite staff, that outweighs any uninformed assumptions based on previous professional associations.
  2. There isn’t a ton out there on him, so not sure how anyone would have a well informed opinion on the guy. I did find this paid content link that includes a summary of strengths and weaknesses before the paywall: https://tdalabamamag.com/2020/07/09/grading-alabamas-assistant-coaches-from-2019-season-holmon-wiggins/ So it’s possible that he’s stronger as a teacher than he is as a recruiter. You need a balance of both on any elite staff. If we’re feeling good about recruiters based on Tosh, Raymond, etc then I can see where Wiggins would make a lot of sense if he excels at teaching the position.
  3. Precisely. The initial lists are almost always wishcasting. Let’s see what the list looks like in a week before we start celebrating.
  4. There goes the theory that they are only plugged in on recruiting info. They seem to have had the best intel out of everyone.
  5. Mentally, I’m prepared for a ton of rumors next week but no official announcements until after the title game.
  6. Just because someone suggested it doesn’t make it so. Just let things play out and then assess the situation for what it is. I’ll never, ever understand why people latch on to these crazy unfounded rumors as fact.
  7. Buy yourself a proper slicer. Amateur hour up in here.
  8. I like how you are pretending there is a chance that you won’t drink from it. Drain that motherfucker!!
  9. Handy -> EHT 4 Grain -> Barrell Craft Spirits 15 (2020) And that’s a wrap. Merry Christmas, assholes!!
  10. No. I have a bottle that’s Kentucky whiskey (not bourbon) finished in Sherry Barrels, and it’s very unique and also quite tasty. Their finished stuff is generally well thought of, so I’d imagine that one is gonna be good.
  11. Somehow that doesn’t surprise me.
  12. I disagree that it’s overpriced. I think it’s legitimately good shit more often than not. Yes, it costs more than some bottles that are genuinely good, but I’ve never had a batch I didn’t like. FWIW, Minnick just ranked Batch 26 as his second best bourbon of the year behind ORVW 15.
  13. I poured myself a 2018 Handy and am watching A Christmas Story. Something tells me Ralphie’s dad was a whiskey man.
  14. No Grand Cru, as I asked about it specifically. I think they had the High Rye Bourbon still out, which is distillery only.
  15. For cocktail purposes, you should try the Kooper Family Rye if you have access to it. It’s great for the price point ($39), and they are a Texas company sourcing from multiple place and aging in Texas.
  16. I was about an hour ago. I live in Austin but drove up to scoop this bottle in particular.
  17. Ran up to the Distillery to pick one of these guys up.
  18. Discovery 3 is fantastic. I liked it so much that I bought a bunker bottle. Raj loaded up on it and is selling it for $125. That’s a tough price point in many cases, but I had no problem paying it in this case.
  19. It’s best days are behind us.
  20. Nice haul. You should have picked up some drywall spackle while you were out and about.
  21. I’ve heard they are very similar, but they are not identical. Cousins, perhaps.
  22. If people are still operating under the assumption that Raj’s shop is somehow under the radar, then they are sorely out of touch. That guy is cleaning up, and has more people to take care of than he has allocated bottles. He’s awesome though. His Russell’s Reserve store pick was a definite winner. I think he still has plenty left but I haven’t been in this week yet. Last week he got another EC barrel pick in. I haven’t heard anything about it yet, but they are almost always solid. He also got a Balcones Single Malt that was one of the better bottles I’ve tasted from them.
  23. I think it was intentionally written to obfuscate the precise components of the blended whiskey, but I disagree that the intent was to mislead. By saying it includes liquid from 17 year old barrels, it also implies that it includes other liquid. Transparency regarding the makeup of blended bourbons is still relatively new, and inconsistent across the industry. I'm not going to crucify Woodford for not spelling out the specific components of the juice, even though I am super curious to understand that better. I'd imagine this sort of thing will continue to evolve over time, as newer players like Bardstown are raising the bar by being very specific about the components they blended together.
  24. Eh, I don’t see it that way, but I guess others may feel differently. Previous Master’s Collection bottles included the series number, albeit slightly smaller: It doesn’t feel like a radical change to me, but to each their own.
