  1. That’s a helluva 1-2 punch. Nicely done.
  2. In a world where you can get everything at MSRP, maybe it’s not worth that. But, we don’t live in that world. Looking at what $80 gets you in reality these days, it’s a damn fine deal. Super happy to have this in my collection.
  3. Picked up the latest Remus Repeal Reserve (series IV) today. It’s MGP heaven in a bottle. So freaking tasty.
  4. I lived there for nearly 4 years before having to move back for family reasons in May. I loved it. Happy to answer any questions about pros/cons.
  5. Has anyone made the trek out to Hye for the annual Cowboy release? I’m thinking about doing and wondering just how early I need to be there to make sure I walk away with a bottle. It doesn’t feel like a situation where I have to be there super early but I really have no historical context for that theory.
  6. Yeah Sam Houston 14 is a great pour. Glad to have a bottle in my collection.
  7. So, Discovery Series 3 is another clear winner. It checks all of the boxes for me. These guys are putting out some fantastic blends right now.
  8. Eagle Rare is a fine bourbon, and a great value at MSRP. It really starts to fall apart once the price point creeps north of $35-$40. It’s not complex in anyway whatsoever, but it’s one of the best baseline expressions around. It’s a bit of an odd product in the sense that it’s been referred to as underrated so much that it has now become a bit overrated.
  9. For now, it definitely is. Mind you, the Discovery is twice the price. That said, it’s a much better product. The Fusion is 60% Bardstown’s juice, which is still on the young side. I hit about 5-6 stores today and I saw Discovery series 2 and 3, as well as The Prisoner collaboration bottle (also excellent). It’s out there if you look for it.
  10. Today’s haul. I loved series 2, so my hopes for series 3 are pretty high.
  11. If you’re in the greater ATX area, buy the LB4. If you don’t love it, drop me a message and I’ll buy it off you at full boat. Love that stuff.
  12. Talk to me about that Belfour LE Rye. Their standard Rye ain’t half bad, if not a bit overpriced. There is little to no info on the higher end Rye. How is it?
  13. I fucking love LB4. I have two other buddies deep in the bourbon game that feel the same way. I’d buy a second if I happened to run across one.
  14. The OF barrel proof is supposed to hit by the end of the month.
  15. So I’m off this week and want to hit up a non-Austin BBQ place with my old man. The tl;dr version is that he has stage 4 prostate cancer and I don’t know how much longer I’ll have with him. I thought it would make for a fun day to road trip to a great BBQ spot for lunch. I moved out of Texas in 2016 and only recently moved back, so I am not as in tune with the current state of BBQ spots outside of Austin. The options I have considered are Black’s, Cooper’s, and Luling City Market, but that’s all based on my BBQ knowledge before leaving for a minute. So, my question to all of you is simple. Where would you recommend we go that is 3 hours or less from Austin?
  16. Damn. That blows. Getting serious Kirk Johnson vibes.
  17. Well, my weakness is disgusting and I went in for one. I’d love to live in a world where WFP was plentiful at MSRP, but I don’t see that happening. I haven’t popped the cork yet but will report back once I do.
  18. So did anyone swing by Debs yesterday for the Weller Full Proof store pick?
  19. Sipping on some Little Book 4 tonight. Just my 2nd pour so far, but I am picking up what it’s putting down. Getting caramel, creme brûlée, and some nuttiness out of it. I haven’t had any of the previous chapters, but this one is great.
  20. I know that some view the use of MGP as something of a crutch, and I get that up to a point. MGP can be delicious, and they play a really important role in both meeting consumer demand and enabling new entrants to the category to get on their feet sooner. I don’t have a hang up on MGP in principle, and for me, my interest is often a function of how unique the finishing process is and how transparent the label is about where the juice comes from. Magnus Cigar has been high on my personal list of things I want to try for awhile. It’s a blend of 11 and 18 year old bourbons, which is a totally different animal than using 4-6 year old MGP like several others are doing. Everything I read about it says it will be right up my alley, so I was stoked to find it.
  21. Damn good day of hunting.
  22. Looking forward to trying this one.
  23. I need to try that. I have a 2017 Four Grain and it would be fun to do a blind taste test.
