  1. Even if we don't sign an elite prospect at RB, WR, TE, CB, or S in this class (which I can't imagine will be the case come signing day), guess which positions are the easiest to come by with top talent in the portal... It will never be a bad thing to build around top QB, OL, and DL talent in high school recruiting. Some of y'all are acting like you want to go back to the Mensa Tom era where damn near all of our top-10 recruits were RB, WR, CB, or S. And again, I have every bit of faith that we won't be outbid often come December for guys this staff determine are must haves.
  2. You can with 26's version.
  3. ¿Por qué no los dos? Championships are pleasurable, after all.
  4. Bros (and Troph), this team is going to fuck. That is all.
  5. Welp, I guess BO&W woke up and chose Surly assisted suicide today.
  6. Just to clarify for everyone - JUCO guy. HS c/o 2023
  7. Yeah. I just want him to make it to campus.
  8. Supposedly not a big draft risk, but who knows...
  9. Friday: Volantis (L) Saturday: Harrison (L) Sunday: Riojas (R) Fourth: Bing (L) or Flores (R) Long-relief/relief: Grubbs (R), Dotson (L), Burns (R), Saunier (R), Hamilton (R), Howard (R) Situational: Walker (L) Closer: Higgins (L) And this doesn't even factor in a freshman like Cozart that could absolutely contribute. This staff should ball out. Also, check out how balanced that list is between LHP and RHP. We haven't seen that in years...
  10. WKU transfer left-handed power pitcher Cal Higgins gives Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle options (by FCB) 1. Sounds like he's set to be the closer next season with Volantis seemingly having the Friday starter role locked down 2. This article makes it seem like Harrison and Riojas are both set to return 3. "Higgins is from Kearney, Neb., so he took a visit to Nebraska before signing with Texas." Well, well, well. We best the old rival, again.
  11. I bet he'll significantly improve this season. He won't be playing on a dirt/grass field either. Oh, and he'll actually have adequate lighting... Fuck, still too soon.
  12. Borba is going to be fine. If anything, his decent .951 FLD% should increase next season with an entire off season of work. If he even marginally improves at the plate, he's one of our best all around contributors. Visually, he's a player with high highs and low lows. When one actually drills down into his stats, he's a good contributor.
  13. His OB% was .410 and he slugged .574. Those are both excellent numbers for a college player. While he certainly seems limited at 3B, we could do much, much worse than Borba at DH. I'm not concerned if we roll with him at DH.
  14. I know they're still after Ford from UVA, but Ford is ranked as a third-round pick, at worst. I wonder if this ends the portal for Texas, or if they'll still try to land another pitcher. Either way, they've crushed it in the portal.
  15. https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/draft/ Neither of them are on MLB.com's most recent top-200. I believe it's much more likely both are back than none. However, we probably retain one. My thought exactly.
  16. Agreed. Although, I think Mendoza should hit second.
  17. What freshman pitchers do you think will actually contribute this upcoming season? Cozart is the only one I really know much about. He has great stuff.
  18. C - Tinney (hopefully) 1B - Livingstone 2B - Mendoza 3B - Borba/ARod SS - Becerra LF - Moroknek/Freeman/Williams CF - Robbins RF - Freeman/Moroknek DH - ARod/Borba Seems like an upgrade at the plate, to me. Seems like Volantis, Harrison, Riojas, Bing, Hamilton, Saunier, Flores, and Dotson may all factor into the starting rotation conversation (including Tuesdays). Grubbs and Burns seem destined for long relief, with Walker as situational stuff, and Higgins as the closer. It'll be interesting to see how Howard, Navarre, Rerick, and Moffett develop. There will be attrition here, though. While I'd love another proven SP, that group is a great base.
  19. Yep. I corrected myself pretty fast lol. Oops
  20. While I totally get what you're saying (he lacks the big offensive upside for a SS, like we saw from Flores in 2023), we could do a lot worse than Becerra, especially at the bottom of the order. I'll take a guy with only 13 errors at a premium defensive position and an OBP around .400, especially when we had multiple black holes in the bottom portion of the batting order this past season. Any idea what his avg and OBP were in ACC play this season? I can't find them sorted out. Edit: looks like the avg was .333 in ACC play.
