  1. I doubt it. He’s pretty meh on both sides of the ball when it comes to Texas standards. If you’re going to be lackluster in one major phase of the game, you better be elite in the other. That’s not O’Dowd.
  2. First pitch of the season is a ball. Fire Pierce.
  3. I used the wrong term. I meant in the batting order.
  4. O’Dowd in the four hole is a bit surprising to me.
  5. But really, @immamac needs to create an exception in the site contents that these two can’t respond to each other. Regardless of who is starting shit over and over again.
  6. We’re watching baseball today!
  7. More from Howe: We just got done meeting with David Pierce and a few players before this weekend’s season-opening series against San Diego. Here are few things to note: — Lebarron Johnson Jr. is getting the ball and Charlie Hurley will start on Saturday. Pierce said when Johnson takes the mound, everybody in the program believes they’re going to win. He thinks LBJ is going to have a special season. — Tanner Witt is available to pitch this weekend, but the Sunday starter is officially TBA. Pierce said Witt is close to top form, but he’s still working through a few things. — Heading into the season, Pierce indicated the team’s top three bullpen guys are David Shaw, Gage Boehm and Grant Fontenot. — Pierce all but confirmed that Jared Thomas will lead off and start at first base. Thomas said he’ll play wherever Pierce wants him, but he’s expected to get some time in center field. Casey Borba, Nik Sanders and Cam Constantine have worked at first base whenever Thomas has gone to center field. — Expectations are high for Jalin Flores at shortstop. Pierce has said Flores and Max Belyeu (who Pierce said has earned the right to start in right field) are two of the most improved players in the program since the end of the 2023 season.

  13. If this happens, A&M's gonna be sad about LB recruiting against Texas again. I'm here for the screenshots. No doubt they'll just talk about "The Elk" unearthing some gritty three-star prospect who is actually better.
  14. Yep, that's what I was thinking... I just don't want to call it yet. However, I'd have to assume that injury will affect her athleticism.
  15. Hunter hasn't played at A&M due to a torn L Achilles tendon. I'm curious to see what happens with her playing career. I was very excited for her when she announced her commitment to Texas. On another note, Shay with another 40-minute game. What a workhorse.
  16. I agree. There's a really good chance it'll be the only match up between two ranked teams in week two. It should be the host site for both programs and carry a 12pm ET/11am CT kickoff if Fox gets the coverage (which it should given their choices). https://www.espn.com/college-football/schedule/_/week/2/year/2024/seasontype/2
  17. I would assume Texas would win the tiebreaker if both Texas and WVU beat OU and all finish with three losses. Texas and OU would be 1-1 against each other, while Texas would be 1-0 against WVU, and WVU would be 1-0 against OU. This all assumes Texas wins out. What's crazy is that if Texas wins out, but WVU doesn't beat OU, Texas may secure a 1-seed for the NCAA tournament without even winning their own conference.
  18. He is what he is. No need to be at the combine. However, some team will give him a camp invite or use a 7th on him.
  19. 100%. I'd even argue that, although Sweat isn't quite the pass rushing threat that Davis was perceived to be based on athletic profile, his ability to take on double teams and push the pocket back on any given play increases the ability of the pass rushers around him. Both Sweat and Murphy boost a line's ability to do this more effectively.
  20. Sweat will measure a few inches shorter than Davis did (6’6, 341), but the biggest difference will be their overall athleticism testing. Davis ran a 4.78 40 and broad jumped 10’3 (the former is rare air, while the latter was a record for a player over 300 pounds). Those two items are why he was drafted 13th - athletic potential. However, I think Sweat is a better player and agree he’s more disruptive.
  21. Not to be a downer, but that can’t be a good sign, right? Alternatives: 1. The BP needs work, they feel Witt can provide help to begin the season. 2. Witt isn’t ready to pitch a SP’s pitch count. Bring him back slowly through the BP. 3. They don’t trust his stuff (at this point) to be a starter. 4. Someone besides LBJ and Hurley is showing promise. 5. Some combination of the above. If Witt starts in the BP and the intent is to work him back as a SP, I’d assume he is a middle reliever. However, maybe he gets a look at closer? Just spitballing. I’m probably off on all of this.
  22. Or giving up steals of home...
