Yeah ok. Negged. However, you bring up a point that I think bears repeating. If nothing else, China has provided the blueprint for how some malevolent actor could take out the US as a superpower. Simply unleash a virus. Everyone else will work their ass off to get vaccinated. Americans will not. You could kill off millions of us with a well designed virus that has a vaccine available for it. And don't think that other countries haven't noticed that. It's why what you are trying to use as a gotcha is really just more reason that people on your side of the fence ought to be out yelling from the rooftops to vaccinate, for patriotic national security reasons if for nothing else.
But I don't expect to see a behavior change. Best we can hope for is that as many of the dumber members of your party as possible die off quickly to give the rest of us a better chance when the real attack eventually comes.
Because of what we've seen in this country since the vaccine became widely available, good luck with your crusade to hold China responsible. Even if we agree that China is 100% responsible for this virus getting out into the world, we've had vaccines for 8 months now. The only reason this is still even a thing in the US is because we've decided that we want China to do even more damage by ignoring our doctors and our government in favor of giving China even more kills in this virus war. It's fucking moronic to be yelling about China at this point. They no longer have anything at all to do with why we are where we are.
So let me make sure I'm understanding your argument. Your argument is that this was a virus unleashed on the world by China and that it is their fault it has killed ~677K people in the US so far. Am I reading that right? Or are you saying that China has actually had that many people die but they are underreporting their own deaths? There's a discussion to be had here, but I don't know which discussion before understanding what you are getting at. Can you clarify so that we can talk about whichever one it is?
I'm aware of the tuck rule in drag shows.
This is super frowned upon, but not technically against the rules. You will get points taken off in the judging though.
So wild assed idea, if I’m a hospital doctor, could I sue these people spreading covid misinformation for defamation? They are impugning my reputation as a care giver and making people less likely to use my services, therefore causing me financial harm. Does that work or do I have to be named directly before I can sue? If that worked, making these people pay would hopefully drastically reduce the misinformation going around at the very least.
yeah I'm still not a fan of naming people after towns and cities. They call you Madison, I'm gonna call you kitten lips. Madison is already being used elsewhere, so you are going to get a synonym for the official animal of Madison, the badger as your new nickname.
In fact, I move that we change the name of his thread to Kitten Lips.
Hey Trauma, and also you @Bama Chick, I’m still in for a celebration when this is done, but I bet we have a bunch of people ready to pool resources to make sure y’all continue to get surprised with food until then. Who would we talk to to sponsor the next food truck Friday, TB? BC, what are some options to help y’all out as well? We should be making this a regular thing.
I suspect there's going to be a grace period for some. If there are high performers that are going to help make sure that fiscal year ends successfully, I expect some companies will push that date til a month or two after their fiscal year ends just to make sure they aren't having to mass replace people in the 4th quarter. They'll do it this way...Voluntary work from home, no in office requirement, til a month into fiscal year. Then day 1 of new fiscal year they'll announce the date is no longer moving, but everyone must be vaccinated. I'm actually looking forward to the shit show at my company.
I don't think that should necessarily be off the table, if she'd even want to spend time with her coworkers on a getaway. At the very least a nice dinner, lots of drinks and free rides to/from wherever it is going to happen. If we can't make that happen, we're aren't nearly as good a bunch of assholes as I thought we were.
Hey @SubliminalHorn how far out are you from the second shot again?
Didn't watch. Was he also blaming those dirty immigrants or have we moved on to only blaming the wrong colored citizens?
In for $100.
No worries there, I watched a really well liked employee get herself fired on Workplace by Facebook last year for her thoughts on race relations. I've heard that we've had similar shit go down on Slack. And we don't use Teams but I expect it's not much different. Even without Yammer, there are plenty of places you can go to wreck yourself.
Yeah and Eddie was a product of his times when he did that. Whoever made that post on surly is a moron who should know better. If Eddie Murphy came out and did that standup routine today reaction would be way way different.
My high school tennis coach called me a fag in high school and it was just one of the ways he joked with his team. A couple years ago that coach, now an administrator, ended up “retiring” to avoid getting fired for not knowing the right way to handle a sensitive situation with some gay students. Times change and you change with them or get left behind.
This makes me very very happy. Been missing New Orleans in the worst way, this makes me think I might be able to get back there this year at some point.
No I didn't miss your point, I think I wasn't clear in my rebuttal to your point. I was saying I wasn't sure about there being a difference because the types of places I was talking about weren't attracting the type of customers that would have been willing to pay a premium, so I wasn't aware that a premium existed. However, there could be completely different rules for dry vs. non dry areas too. Your followup made me think that there is potentially a different set of rules depending on your county and so I repped you and dropped it.
Why do you say that? I grew up in Texas, in a dry county. Every bar was a private club. It had to be in order for you to be able to buy a drink there. You got a card for like $10 that gave you the ability to buy drinks at the club and this was a small hick town of 8000 people, they didn't have the foot traffic or the high brow clientele that would've been required to sell at big margins.
I’d pay $199 for him to film his moment of clarity when he realizes he’s pissed away his legacy and his friends for a piece of shit that did exactly what everyone expected by not paying. It would need to include real tears and contrition, and he’d need to agree to exile himself and stay out of the public eye for the rest of his miserable life. You think he’d go for that?
If I was an old white man that didn't know any, nor know anything about black people, and I'm thinking I want to talk to the utes, this is the type of commercial I would've come up with.
Meanwhile, this was never a problem for the measles vaccine, or chickenpox vaccine, or the rubella vaccine, or the smallpox vaccine, or the polio vaccine or any number of other vaccines that parents have routinely forced into their children's bodies since vaccines were developed.
As a country, we also have no concern about forcing a shit ton of vaccines into the bodies of every immigrant who applies for a green card. I think my husband had to get 10 vaccines as part of his green card application.
I don't buy this bullshit excuse, because it is bullshit and we as a country have a proven track record of not caring about personal choice when it comes to vaccines going way way back to before I was born.
Hell, I don't have a smallpox vaccine scar on my arm because so many people got the vaccine that smallpox was eradicated in the US. That didn't happen because of people who needed to do their own research, it happened because people listened to actual experts and did the right thing for their countrymen. I'm not in the mood to excuse the people today who have chosen that they are going to selfishly ignore the experts in the name of choice, when in reality they are just scared of fucking needles.
Also, if I had a dollar for every time someone claimed a slippery slope was coming I'd be Surly .0001%.
