I'm not as excited as I would be normally. This team is limping towards the finish line with injuries. (Do you notice the expanded post-seasons never include a contracted regular season?) Now we are playing for a national title supported by 49 states. This was already true when we went to the Sugar Bowl and it just got worse, we lost our LT tackle against PSU and his replacement has missed the entire season with injury.
So the 2024 Notre Dame Fighting Irish story is already a success: We came in wondering if coach Freeman was qualified for the job after the usual 10-15 ranked recruiting class. Took an OC from the Brian Kelly coaching shrub, that we always complained about. Took a transfer QB whom we had mauled @Duke 2023 who can't pass. Opened with a road win at an SEC team, lost to Northern Illinois University at home (kept wondering). Then proceeded to run the table against a medium strength schedule only being threatened a few times. Screwed out of the 5th seed but can't talk because NIU. Broke a 30 year jinx by winning a major bowl against the backup qb. Made history by becoming the first team in history to win two major bowls in the same season 🙄 albeit against James Franklin.
So where we were vs where we are. We are already ahead of where anyone expected. I'll still be bug eyed every play. Doubt I'll be livid this time tomorrow barring a ref job.
FYI the local Texas club started chanting NOTRE DAME at the end of their gamewatch last Friday.
