  1. neighbor's tree fell last night: dammit, why can't i insert the images?
  2. Thanks again mdmost for the tips. We are going march 20-21 and staying that one night at Disneyland Hotel. Really trying to keep it low key. Little one won't be able to ride majority of the rides, and 5 yr old is a bit of a scaredy cat, so we're mostly going for the experience, the characters, etc. And we have a dinner reservation at Goofy's Kitchen, which I am dreading but know the kids will love. Do you guys think the parade is "important"? We were planning on doing our half day at DCA and then using our magic morning and longer day at DL, but we need to leave by about 2:30, so we'll miss the parade at Disney. If we wanted to, we could do DL the first day and do the 6:30 pm parade, but I have a feeling the kids are going to be super exhausted by then (8:30 austin time, plus we'll be traveling all morning and disney-ing all afternoon). I want to just skip the parade stuff all together, but also don't want to miss out if people think it's super worth it. Also have little desire to line up and wait for it to start.
  3. Thank you mdmost! If we get it at the beginning of the day, will we be able to get fast passes to the stuff we want? My boys aren't really thrill seekers so no magic mountain for us, but I think they'd like the Cars Land ride and other small ones. I have literally no disney experience at all so this should be some kind of experience (disaster?).
  4. Ok i should read the whole thread, don't have time. Help me with this. Going to Disneyland one day and California Adventure another with our 5 yr old and almost 3 yr old. We purchased tickets through an agent type person that a friend recommended, but she didn't purchase any max pass or fast pass thing. What do I do now? We have a 3 day pass because it was cheaper than a 2 day, and we have magic morning one morning. What's the difference between maxpass and fastpass, and can we purchase day of? So annoyed - thought I had it all figured out!
  5. For anyone wondering, it was awesome. Boring game, but the little guy made it all the way through with the promise of running the bases and meeting some players. He thoroughly enjoyed it and is still talking about it. And informed me we are going to go "every Sunday there is a home game." Hah!
  6. Planning to take my sports/longhorns-obsessed 5 yr old to a game this weekend (and probably several this season). Do they still do the "kids run the bases" thing on Sundays after the game? Do you have to be a Kids Club member to do that? Any other tips for taking a little kid? Been a couple years since we last went and can't wait to share it with him now that he actually gets it (and is playing t-ball).
  7. we stayed with our kids - 2 and 4 - in Frisco this summer. It was great, cheaper than the other places, and we had a big house with a yard. It's a nice central spot - we did one afternoon at Copper Mountain, where the fun park was mostly free, and one afternoon at Breckenridge, where the fun park was ridiculously priced. But, kids had a blast at both. I think next time we would stay in Breckenridge for the convenience of being close/walking distance to so much, but we did really enjoy Frisco.
  8. We live in Allandale and I like it a lot - we've been in our house 8 years. However, we have two kids - it's definitely more of a family friendly neighborhood. It's very bike friendly, but I'd love to move two miles south to Rosedale, which is more walkable. But I don't want to pay $750k for a 2/1 that needs work, so... In your situation, Clarksville, Barton Hills/Zilker, Travis Heights, Hyde Park would probably be best, but you're going to pay upwards of $700k for sure.
  9. Hey Ocugolf. I'm not a dad. But I'm a mom and a psychologist. This website http://www.emptyarmsbereavement.org/ is a great resource and support for those having gone through miscarriage and stillbirth; it was started by a friend's sister. Lots of good resources and questions and answers, even though the support groups themselves are likely not in your state (Massachusetts). They do offer telephone and email support, and may be able to help you (and your wife) find someone locally to process this heartbreaking experience.
  10. Best to scalp them? Buy at stub hub? Don’t want to spend a ton, taking a 4.5 yr old who will probably want to leave after an hour, but don’t want to be so far away that he can’t even see what’s happening.
  11. We are going to Frisco, CO next week with our 4.5 yr old and 2 yr old. Staying at a HomeAway and planning to mostly just relax and enjoy the mountain air, and renting a boat on Lake Dillon one day. Any other must-do things with little kids? Restaurant recommendations? Easy (like really easy) hikes? I'm considering horseback riding as well - Breckenridge Stables offers a 1.5 hr trail ride with a double saddle so kids can ride with parents, but worried my 4 yr old will chicken out and waste the money.
  12. I never sleep in them and have never had a problem before - started wearing them at age 10 and I’m 39 now. Not sure what happened, but over the last month one eye got swollen and uncomfortable, particularly felt bad with the contact in. Optometrist and then ophthalmologist both diagnoses GPC, which is basically a developed intolerance to contacts. I’ve been on steroid drops for 3 weeks with barely any improvement. And I hate wearing glasses and they give me a headache. Hence this research- both drs said dailies are the best option (after not wearing contacts at all). Glad to hear people like them, makes it worth the investment. Going to get fit when I’m done with steroids. Trying to spend majority of my time in glasses right now, my personal hell.
  13. I use the Peppers brand - found them at REI and really like them. Polarized are really good, and if I lose them I don't feel like shit because I lost $200. However, I should note that I bought an extra pair on Amazon and the lenses keep popping out, so not sure if it's better to get them at a legit storefront.
  14. Where do you buy them? Do you find it to be more of a pain to have to take out a new pair every day and travel with a whole bunch of them? Or does it end up being the same-ish?
  15. Any of y'all use daily contacts? My eyes are rebelling against regular contacts and my eye dr suggested trying dailies. Trying to figure out how much of a pain in the ass they are, and where to find them the cheapest - I got a quote for like $770 for a year supply from my regular eye dr, which seems like so much, but maybe that's just standard. That's for the Acuvue Oasys 1-day moist (I think).
  16. So LHN is still just Vue and DTV Now? I am having trouble with the DTV app on my Roku. Never have been able to get it to work. Going to uninstall it later and try again.
  17. My 2 yr old keeps yelling at his 4 yr old brother "GO TO YOUR ROOM!" It seriously sounds like an adult saying it. The older one will get in trouble for something and be having a tantrum, but starts to giggle when the 2 yr old comes up and yells this and then tries to push him toward his room. 4 yr old has so many gems I can't even list them. Best for this forum recently: "Charlie kicked me in my penis and it hurt really bad. Is there any bones in your penis?" Highly recommend the app "QuoteMe Tots" - I keep track of all the really good ones in there, and it's hilarious to go back and look through them.
  18. Thanks. Going to stay in Paris the whole time. Probably 4 nights. Deciding about Normandy - I really want to go but worry it will be freezing. Also husband says “too depressing” for an anniversary trip. We’ll see.
  19. Thanks. A small room/studio is fine - clean and convenient is most important. And we just need a decent sized bed and not a futon (my husband is 6'7"), which is proving harder to find.
  20. Going to Paris for a few days in October. We've never been and want to stay in Le Marais for under about $200/night. HomeAway/Airbnb or hotel? On a related note, we are looking to go outside the city for two nights. Want to do something more relaxed, within a few hours train ride from Paris. Options right now are Lyon, Bordeaux, and Annecy (leaning toward Annecy because of the views). Not sure how cold/rainy it will be in October. Open to suggestions
  21. Anyone used it? I tried to do a search but I couldn't find a thread. We are traveling with two kids (4 and 2) to Colorado later this summer, and it seems like a good option - no having to deal with a rental car shuttle, some have car seats they can provide, etc. I'd appreciate any feedback - we'll be going to Frisco for a few days.
  22. How much would I expect to pay for scalped tickets for tonight?
  23. Hi Jabronis - took me a bit to realize ole shaggy was done, but I'm back! Wish I had tickets, but don't think we can manage the heat, anyway. If anyone wants to donate night game tickets, I'm your gal. Hook 'em!
