  1. Maine was never that good of a team or program. Back in the late 1970's through the mid 1980's the NCAA required that Regionals be played in all sections of the country. Maine was the best of the teams in the Northeast Region and hosted for several years. The NCAA also required that teams from the region be in the Regionals. So, for these years Maine would win this Regional and go to Omaha. They would usually go 0-2 and be eliminated. They were coached by a crusty old guy named John Winkin. He was a gruff guy that was an old school baseball coach. He was friends with Coach Gus and Maine would come to Austin to play the Horns fairly often and usually get beat badly in those games. The one-year Maine did well in Omaha was in 1982 behind the arm of future MLB pitcher Billy Swift. He was a nice guy and us Texas fans always got along well with the Maine players and fans; they just usually weren't there very long. This year they made the final four teams before their nemesis Miami, eliminated them, after Maine had beaten them earlier. Then in the late 1980's the NCAA allowed other schools to go to other Regionals, as the top seed there. The first year this happened of all teams Miami went to the Maine Regional and easily won it. Then the NCAA dropped the rule that there had to be Regionals in all regions of the country and that was the end of Maine as sort of a baseball power. They haven't been back to Omaha or even been that good since the days of when they would host and be the #1 seed of those Maine Regionals. I still got some things those Maine players and fans gave me back then. Those were great years watching Texas Baseball, other teams also at Disch-Falk and then in Omaha, or as we called the Horns, the University of Texas at Omaha. I knew Abe back then too. We used to stop in Oklahoma City on the way to Omaha for the CWS and talk to him, when he was coaching there.
  2. The fake punt that Bama tried in that game was intercepted on a diving catch by Blake Gideon. Problem was that it was fourth down and if he just lets it hit the ground it would have gained over 25 yards in field position for the Horns. It was like the polar opposite of when he dropped the easy interception against Texas Tech, but still a bad result for Texas. The end result in both games were bad too.
  3. These are some of those reasons.
  4. The reason for optimism for me is Mafah is not just banged up but has left games at times this season. He has a shoulder injury, that will require surgery at the end of the season. That with their second-string running back Jay Haynes is out for the season. The Clemson rush defense isn't that good either, so Texas can reestablish the running game and open up the passing game. 5. Mississippi Valley State looks like an NBA team compared to this bunch.
  6. Hide the Western Michigan womenz, Major going to get the win!
  7. Bronco quarterback threw "Sambucci" a pass he couldn't refuse.
  8. Website said that the new football season has "set the table" for the Broncos, now they need to "eat."
  9. Recipe - Makes 17 burritos. That does seem like enough for company.
  10. Those don't look "thick" enough for Major.
  11. Need to see pictures of the female trainers.
  12. Go Army! Beat Navy! My cousin went to West Point. My father was Army Air Corps and flew all the big missions from D-Day, the relief of Bastogne, Market Garden, and all the way to Berlin. This is my father on top of his plane, "Mrs. Mutt." and a map of all his missions drawn by a fellow airman, that was an artist in civilian life.

  14. After the Barron interception they were afraid to let Stockton throw down field other than dinks. The only thing they did was a quarterback draw, which wasn't stopped either.
  15. This if the defensive formation Texas should have been in on the last play of the game against Georgia, in the SEC Championship Game.
  16. He turned or twisted his ankle dribbling up court. He stayed in for a bit, then went out. Then he went to the locker room and didn't come back. This was in the second half; it didn't look that bad.
  17. It's no mistake he has Clemson beating Georgia in the title game.
  18. Tragically Texas loses the second half by one point, but otherwise did look like a more complete team tonight. Hope Johnson is ok, it didn't look too bad.
  19. Mark needs to be a volume scorer for Texas, take some heat off Johnson. Tight battle to see who wins the second half.
  20. Aren't these the same shirts they wore against Ohio State? Looks like them, if so, they will have 1-1 record soon.
