Excellent find, thank you.  Him talking about voice as an instrument and then listening to him in that last song they played, wow.  Such a unique dude.  Oh and loved him talking about Laur, that was great.

Funny story:  me and a buddy went to see Sturgill and Isbell at the Ryman back in 2015 I think it was.  After the show we went to a club in East Nashville to hear some more music.  The band was kicking ass (remember them playing Amos Moses) and there are maybe 20 people in the whole place.  Middle of the set I notice some little dude just pull up a stool 10 feet or so from the stage and just chill with a beer and watching the band.  I turned to my buddy and say “I think that is Sturgill’s guitarist”.  He stayed for about 30 minutes or so and then casually headed out.  Later someone we were talking to said oh yeah, he comes in here all the time when he’s in town.

    Mother fucker.

I've used the same starting word since I began playing. If it didn't hit today, it's never gon a hit. One other time it was one letter off.

If 49 Winchester saved their best songs for the full album release and didn't run them as lead singles, this thing is gonna elbow out Sturgill for album of the year on my end.  These lead singles have been ridiculously good.

I think the new Red Clay Strays is going to edge them both out.  I’m in love with it.

    Digging this whole album's vibe

I loved Red’s first album but he hasn’t knocked me over with anything since.  I’ll check this one out.

TIL that Skipjack and Ladyfish is the same thing.

Oh yeah, we call them skips here in Texas.  Ladyfish most other places.  Kind of like the cajuns call ling (us Texans call cobia) lemonfish.

Also cajuns calling crappie, white perch.  I love all the different names.

  6. Hit the surf  behind Woody’s in G Town yesterday in the rain for a bout an hour.  Gulls started working not far down from me so I moseyed towards them and started catching.  The shrimp were flipping out of the water to get away from the trout.  Eventually I was right in the middle of them and probably could’ve hand netted a few trout.  Never been in the middle of something like that.  Crazy.  Caught a quick limit and headed back to the truck.  Good times.

Note: skipjack was kept strictly for jetty bait purposes.

Glad I’m not the only one on One For The Road. Had that one on repeat a lot this week.

so much instrumentation to unpack on that one.

I can’t put my finger on what vibe I’m getting from the guitar sound on that one and starting to drive me crazy.

thought maybe late 80s/early 90s steve via/ joe satriani, but that’s not it.

maybe that’s the beauty of it: something that sounds so familiar, but mixed in to something that uniquely Sturgill, err, Johnny

Its an Allman Brothers or Marshall Tucker Band feel for me.

    Love it.

  8. Just got through spinning the new one in its entirety.  Kind of same as before.  2 or 3 really good ones and the rest meh.  But by now with 4 or 5 albums he’s got maybe a 10 or so really good ones.  I’ll take that.

And I agree with those above, Ragweed is my favorite.

Posted in "new music" but the new Koe Wetzel album is really good and I'm guessing there's crossover appeal for the denizens of this thread if he doesn't quite fit in.

Sounding good.  I figured he would get better as he gets older.   A lot of his earlier stuff was a little immature and hard to get into but he’s got talent for sure.
