  1. Even if Beard is the guy, it still makes sense to go through the interview process because you just don't know who else maybe a better fit for the job. I am liking the fact that we are running a proper search.
  2. Let's not forget Juan Howard had a much better college and NBA resumes as a player. He was a household name when he was hired, which makes it easier to recruit. I don't think Ivey would have that kind of a pull with high school players, most of whom probably never heard of him. The fact that he is loved by former players is not necessarily a strength as a coach. It just means it will be harder to fire him if he doesn't work out. The plan should be to stick with a proven HC. We can't afford to gamble any more.
  3. Whenever Texas fires a coach, everyone thinks we are entitled and obviously made a mistake. Even in this situation where both parties mutually decided to part ways, Seth Davis was calling us out for not making it work with Shaka.
  4. What makes Ivey a great coaching hire? It seems like a big leap of faith. Would we even consider him if he weren't a former player here? I think we will be back clamoring for his dismissal in about 2 years.
  5. May not be one of those two but I think whenever CDC makes a change it's going to be a big time coach to help sell tickets.
  6. What did I say about getting Izzo or another legend? It's really not out of the realm of possibilities when you consider their goodwill in their current gigs may be in the way down. They can come here and build another top program without unrealistic expectation. Many of these hall of famers want to show it to the world that they still got it and they can do it anywhere.
  7. Seems like something Bill Little would write after the annual ass raping Mack Brown's teams would get from OUSux.
  8. Yes it does. People move to the Caribbean for nice beaches and weather. I know because I have done it too. Lots of successful people make such moves.
  9. That's a very defeatist way to approach life. You don't get to hire a coach you don't offer. The key is to understand their individual situation and try to make a case for Texas. Sometimes people move to warmer weather as they get older. There are many such things you can explore but it would require more than a cursory search.
  10. He was at the top of the game back then and wouldn't be as attainable as he is now imo. We just need a successful coach here for 5 years to build our program. He can groom an assistant to take over once he retires. When I look at coaching choices, I see the following: 1) Legends that are taking their teams consistently deep in the tournament. Everyone thinks we can't get any of them. 2) Mid tier coaches that have good teams but can't take their team all the way. Do people think they will suddenly take Texas all the way if hired? Most coaches underperform here, not the other way. So you have to ask, what's our goal? Do we want someone who can take us all the way or be happy with being middle of the pack? 3) Coaches that suddenly rise up and make to FF or even win it all. They are popular choices because of the recency bias. We don't really take the time to analyze if what they accomplished in one year will be sustained over the long term and at Texas. IMO these are the worst coaches to hire. If I am the AD, I hire a consulting firm and ask them to give me 5 names from the top group and tell me what will make them consider Texas.
  11. I am not here for popularity or reps. Texas athletics have been sucking for more than a decade by hiring the next flavor of the month. You succeed in anything in life by making the hard choices and going after it.
  12. Living legends change jobs for various reasons. It happens in football and other sports too. You just have to do a deeper search to find out who may be attainable. We have been experimenting with up and coming coaches for a while and have nothing to show for it. It's better to take the time, explore all options, and pony up the money if you find that one coach who has a very high probability of success.
  13. No, that is missing my point. Izzo seems like one of the legends who maybe obtainable given his current situation. Getting the right basketball HC is hard and nobody knows who would work out. I am just throwing out my observation. You may or may not agree just like other suggestions people are throwing out there.
  14. Why not reach out Tom Izzo? I know it seems like an improbable hire but I think he makes sense for several reasons. He is already in the hall of fame and there is nothing more he can achieve at Michigan State that he already hasn't. His salary is not too high for Texas to beat (not sure about the buyout though). With the rise of Michigan, it will be harder for him to win the Big 10 and losing to Michigan more often than not won't sit well with their fanbase who might see him as someone who is past his prime ala Mack Brown. A fresh start somewhere else can do wonders for him.
  15. Why do people bring up Ramey's stats to defend him? He is an absolute liability on the floor (can't dribble, turnover machine, bad decision maker, average shooter, and so on and on). He should not be seeing more than 5 minutes at any D1 program. You would think people who get paid millions to win games should recognize this. Instead Ramey gets to play almost the whole game!
  16. Shaka's teams tend to do well in tourneys. He has won NIT, Maui, and now Big 12 at Texas. He also took VCU to final four. There are coaches who shine in tourneys but not in regular season and vice versa. While it would be good to be a Duke or Kentucky that win both regular season and tourney games, those types of teams are rare. While I have been down on Shaka since he got here, I am starting to appreciate what his strength is as a coach. Still not sure if he is what we need or deserve but I am happy now with what this team has accomplished so far this year. I also believe we would have been a surefire 2 seed if not for Covid causing the disruptions leading to a 3 game slide.
  17. I got new members with no post count negging me for this post. 😂 It's a wonderful new world we live in!
  18. This is why I liked Maalik from the beginning and didn't care for whether Ewers came back or not. You just get certain vibe from certain players and others tend to gravitate towards them.
  19. I see you defending Caden in several threads. What's the deal? Are you his gf or a relative? He is a selfish bitch and deserves to be called out.
  20. Hope Rojo gets to play on Sundays. Not sure what his chances are of being drafted but if he gets a chance to play, he will make a team very happy. The guy is pure class ... one of my favorite horns ever.
  21. Haven't seen a throw where the WR had to stop and come back for the ball, so that makes me happy. He will only get better with game reps.
