  1. I really don’t think Ace is going to need anybody to pair with him. His stuff plays. It’s not overpowering but his command of it is not a fluke at this point. There will be days when the wind is blowing out that he may run into trouble but that could be said about any arm. Biggest thing is he has a rubber arm so even in starts where he has given up 3 or 4 runs he can still give you 7 or 8 innings.
  2. Absolutely love the decision to let Ace finish that game
  3. I think Ace is going to allow this team to turn the corner and start rattling off series wins. Will be interesting what Pierce does with Hurley. Wouldn’t mind keeping him as the midweek starter if he can build off Wednesday’s performance because this team can’t afford any midweek hiccups with the hole they’ve dug themselves in early this year.
  4. Okay now I’d pull Ace
  5. Ace isn’t pitching until next Saturday anyway, might as well see if he can get 3 more
  6. Doesn’t mean it needs caveats. Kody was a career .240 hitter in 385 ABs, he got better under Pierce. Why does that need to be a caveat and negative.
  7. Gasparino needs to be dropped back into the 9 spot as well. It was helping him a lot being able to see more fastballs with teams challenging him trying to avoid turning the lineup over to Thomas and Powell
  8. I don’t know why this team is afraid to strikeout looking but for some reason they all seem absolutely prettified at the thought. We get deep into counts and guys just go into 100% swing mode. It kills them offensively, this team can hit but it doesn’t matter because no matter how good you are at the plate you aren’t going to consistently string together 3 and 4 hits an inning.
  9. Tommy Farmer needs to start eating into Porter and Galvans ABs as well. No reason for him to be wasting on the bench not getting opportunities to get better. Took so long trying to find a gif you didn’t see I edited it
  10. Jared Thomas, Jalin Flores, and Peyton Powell are the only 3 guys that don’t look lost and completely guessing when they are behind in the count.
  11. Rylan Galvan is Michael Cantu 2.0
  12. This team is hitting over .300, they just can’t seem to put a complete game together
  13. This team has potential, they just don’t do the little things well consistently enough.
  14. Don’t like to ever declare a series a must sweep but it would definitely be nice. Need the bats to show up all weekend. Hopefully Lebarron and Ace pitch well and give the staff some stability heading into the meat of conference play. Those two pitch well and it gives Pierce a lot of options and flexibility on Sunday to roll with the hot hand and start stacking series wins.
  15. I hope one day soon you find it within yourself to look in the mirror and let yourself enjoy some of the minor things in life like Texas basketball
  16. The Red Raiders are in trouble, lost 8-5 to the Mormons tonight
  17. People really don’t like to enjoy anything
  18. The bullpen is coming together. We don’t have a shutdown arm with wipeout stuff but Lummus and Hudson were both really encouraging. Boehm and Tole have been good all year with each having one dud. Can’t believe I’m saying this but Duplantier has been impressive this year as well, he may have the best slider on the team. It’s interesting to watch Pierce try and replicate past pitchers with some of the current guys. I see a lot of Lucas Gordon in Ace Whitehead and it looks like they have molded Chase Lummus to Pete Hansen (before they scrapped his curveball). With Ace only sitting around 84-86 he can probably throw 100 pitches and not feel it like someone throwing 90+. I imagine the plan with Ace will be to try and get 6-7 innings knowing he’s going to throw a lot of strikes, probably give up 3-4 runs, but you’ll take that any day of the week if he can give you 6-7 innings.
  19. He guesses more than a Senior should at this level which leads to his lack of discipline. He isn’t an everyday player but I agree with you that him and Kennedy should probably be platooning.
  20. His batting average jumped 37 points last night with his one hit in the 10th, that’s what happens when you only have 22 ABs. He is the only guy on the team with more walks (8) than strikeouts (7). I’d say he is doing alright for a true freshman. I’d like to see him continue to bat 2nd. He sees a lot of pitches and puts together much better ABs than O’Dowd. Not to mention he is a much better glove.
  21. Florida: 12-8 (2-1), 37th in the RPI, 2-4 against Q1 teams, #8 SOS, ranked #6 by D1 baseball Texas: 12-8 (2-1), 48th in the RPI, 3-4 against Q1 teams, #14 SOS, unranked Obviously this is going to change a lot but 20 games in I just found this comparison interesting. Goes to show the fault in how humans judge things and how weird baseball can be
  22. Potentially could be a win that you look back on and put a star next to at the end of the season.
