    TEXAS QB TALK

Some call it whipped dog syndrome, others call it the reality of going 78-60 (56%) over the past 11 seasons. Many cope by choosing to believe it when they see it, others cope by predicting 12-0 in the prediction thread every year. Regardless everyone wants to see the program finally turn it around.
  2. That works both ways though. We needed a prayer to beat Texas Tech, won an ugly game at home against an average West Virginia team by 4, and needed +4 in turnover margin to beat OKST by 7 who doubled our yardage and 1st downs
  3. Whether Louisiana is better than Maryland is irrelevant, this program hasn’t been good enough for the past 10 years to be taking anybody lightly. Until we get away from living and dying by the play at the QB position, we will be stuck in this state of glorified mediocrity.
  4. Nothing against Washington fans but when Sark got there, there was no such thing as a WTF loss.
  5. I think it is pretty obvious he wants to stay in the North though given what he has done at Iowa State and the fact that multiple big name jobs have come open and he is still at Iowa State. Rumors are that he would end up at Michigan if they ever decided to rip of the bandaid with Harbaugh. If Nebraska moved quick they’d have a chance given the fact that Michigan doesn’t have an opening and Iowa State’s seat at the big boy table in college football is uncertain. Not saying it’s likely but if Nebraska wants to save their program they should send the kitchen sink at him. Never thought I’d see Iowa State as a pre season top 10 team and competing for Big 12 titles, remarkable what he has done there.
  6. Matt Campbell would be a home run hire for them. They better move quickly though because if the B1G moves to add Iowa State, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, it’s a better job than Nebraska right now. Only thing Nebraska would have to sell is that they are in the B1G and have rich history.
  7. I just hope what isn’t lost in this, in the hope that this staff isn’t incompetent, is that regardless of who the starting QB is, the best player on our offense isn’t in the QB room.
  8. That is great news compared to what was being heard! Sam is tough, he has been knocked down and gotten back up his whole life. Colts season doesn’t start for another 2 weeks so he could be ready to go by week 4 or 5 of the regular season
  9. Nebraska looks like us under Herman with a lot less talent across the board. Every week it is live and die by the QB with no help from anywhere else. Doesn’t help that Nebraska’s OLine has been horrible since Frost has been there and hasn’t gotten any better
  10. He can possibly turn them into what James Franklin did at Vanderbilt which is 8-4 at best with a lot of 7-5 and 6-6 seasons. I imagine Illinois would be more than happy with that though given where their football program has been

    TEXAS QB TALK

Mac Jones and Joe Burrow say hello...? Neither did anything until their Senior years in college. I can go find more if you like. Pretty dumb take right here
  12. Sam led the team in carries every year he was here except 2018 and I don't think it is a coincidence that was the best year he was here. He was asked to be the whole offense. When that is asked of a player you will live and die by that player. That is exactly what happened during his career, we lived and died by his play and sometimes it didn't matter what he did because the program simply wasn't good enough. Against LSU he threw for 401 yards, ran for 60, accounted for 5 TDs (would have been 6 if Ingram could catch) and Texas lost. Later that year against a bad TCU team he threw 4 INTs in a loss. For the last decade the program has never been at a level where it could overcome mistakes from the QB on a consistent basis with the exceptions of 2014 and 2017 where the defense was fairly good and was let down by the offense. I can only speak for myself but when I look at Sam I see myself or any person who has been a Texas fan since they were a kid. Like many on here we were at one point a fan that went to games as a kid with their dad with the dream of one day playing for Texas. Sam was one of the few that got to live that dream and seemingly played with a Freddie Steinmark like passion every week. I'm going to go out on a limb and say a kid that amassed 127 TDs to only 27 INTs in 4 years was failed by the program more than he failed it. If you think this thread is a Sam Ehlinger safe space you must not have been here during 2017 up until the 2018 Oklahoma game. This thread was a blood bath during that time

    TEXAS QB TALK

I remember when Jevan Snead was a 4* ESPN 150 recruit battling 3* Colt for the job, Shane looked better than Sam in practice because he threw a prettier ball, Chris Simms looked every bit the part of an elite QB while Major looked like the opposite, and Vince Young was looking like he was going to be a WR until halfway through the 2004 season. Some guys have it when the lights come on. Neither guy has hardly anytime under the lights at the college level at least nothing to make any declaration about the future. What we do know is that we have a Redshirt Junior who is 20-29 for 309 yards 7 TDs (6 passing) in limited action battling a Redshirt Freshman who hasn't done anything other than reports that he looks better in practice. Sarkisian has forgotten more about football than I know, but he better not have any doubt if you roll Card out there to start week 1 because if it blows up, buckle up
  14. The idea that making a pitching change increases your chances of getting out of a jam, if that is the basis of your premise, isn't even remotely a fact. You like anybody is certainly entitled to their opinion as we all are but leaving Witt in the game wasn't' an awful decision it just didn't work. He has best K/9 on our staff which is what you want out of a late inning guy. Texas used 3 pitchers (Wood, Jungmann, Dicharry) in the 9th against LSU in 2009 with a 6-4 lead and they managed to allow 2 hits and 2 walks and essentially choked the game away. Was that bad management? Good management because Augie simply made changes? Funny enough, Witt is the only pitcher on the team with 25+ IP that doesn't have a loss
  15. Every time this thread is started especially after a good season I always think of the somberness of the ending scene of Friday Night Lights where they are outside the stadium and coach removes their names from the depth chart and discards them... Last night was the final time we will ever see the 2021 Texas Longhorns baseball team play... Yet a month and a half ago we were playing TCU in Lupton sweating out seeding wondering if this team was good enough to make a run and here we are a run short of playing for it all... Sad but proud 🤘🏻
  16. Okay, okay, you’re right so you go to Cole earlier I got it yeah that makes sense. I bet you have no idea that tonight was Cole’s longest outing of the season. This entire game was going to be asking guys to potentially go out and do things they hadn’t all season. Tristan was at 72 pitches, yes they had hit him around, no he wasn’t missing bats (partially because he pitches to contact), he is the best pitcher on the team at inducing a ground ball. Guess what, he got one, and like all of us watched it bounce over Cam Williams head. He tried to get one last double play out of his ground ball sinker ball starter so that he wasn’t asking Cole to attempt to go out and do something he hadn’t done all year.
  17. So your solution was to throw a guy who didn’t look good to finish the season and faced 1 batter all tournament in Lucas Gordon or Kolby who hadn’t made it out of the 2nd inning in 2 of his 3 previous starts. Sure he puts somebody who has never been in that moment and they succeed and he looks like a genius! Or they get lit the fuck up and everybody is calling him a moron. You dance with the ones that brung ya and tonight we danced for 8 1/3 innings with the ones that brung us and Mississippi State turned off the music.
  18. Who are you going to throw? Lucas Gordon who was shaky towards the end of the season and only faced one batter all tournament? Palmer Wenzel? Jared Southard who I love but has 10 innings all year? You going to throw Kolby who in 2 of his last 3 starts has looked absolutely pitiful? Tonight was going to be the Tristan and Cole show and Tristan couldn’t give us enough. Is what it is. Putting anyone else in the game would have just been a Hail Mary and a prayer.
  19. If he is talking about Stevens fair enough but I’m seeing people say he is an idiot for not pulling Quintanilla which is just stupid.
  20. Good job NCAA, now you just fucked what was a great event for no reason. Really well handled by all involved.
  21. But why were 4 NC State vaccinated players that tested positive allowed to be in the dugout yet not allowed to play and why were they even allowed to be in the dugout to begin with. (Edit: It seems some of them may have played which is even more reason to test Vanderbilt) Vaccinated people can contract the virus so if you are going to test NC State’s vaccinated players that came into contact with the unvaccinated NC State players then one would think you would test all the Vanderbilt players if you actually cared about the players safety. Vanderbilt had played 2 games in the past 5 days against NC State but NC State’s vaccinated players are the only ones you were worried about getting it? Yeah I’m not buying it. If you want to say NC State and everybody new the rules, fine and fair enough, I won’t argue that, but don’t say it’s about player safety if you aren’t going to test a single Vanderbilt player that played 2 games against them in the past 5 days.
