Colt wins again! Just watched the highlights on YouTube. Looked very sharp with the short passes and completed one long one. Then he did what I assumed he would never do again, fake a draw take off running. What is Kyler's injury? Don't know how fast Colt will be able to rebound.

Does the playbook not contain two backs in the backfield, Bijan and Rojo? On 2nd and 1, I put both backs in the backfield, play action to Bijan, and throw either to a tight end or to Rojo, case closed, gonna get probably 10-15 yards with Rojo because the D does not expect him to be on the receiving end. I would run two backs at the same time starting the 2nd half and give Rojo plenty of carries, probably about 30-40% of the carries. This reminds me of the Marion Barber/Murray? situation with the cowboys. Cowboys used up Murray, and finally got smart and put Barber in as a switch. Kept the D honest. Right now, defenses are not used to the speed of Bijan, learn it in the first half and then come out in the 2nd half knowing if it is a running play to key on Bijan. No threat of another back and our OL being bad leads to the D knowing the plays as well as the O, which leads to 0 yards. Have to utilize Rojo. Is it really that simple? Iow, are the coaches really so dumb that they can't figure out Rojo needs carries so the D doesn't know the plays? C'mon coaches!

108-24! And about 44-0 of that is with our 2021 Old against Rice? what grade are we giving the left side of the OL? D or F? so, the only places on offense that were evaluated incorrectly were the OL and the QB? Since the OL is the only remaining issue on offense, can Sark's OL coach fix it before OU? I'm saying no at this point. Lose 2 or 3 more even with improvement in OL, and I still consider the season a success at 9-3 or 8-4. Bottom line, we just need to see improvement in every phase as the year goes along. Hoping next year is a year when everybody should be rolling for day one. Predicitng one or two losses next year, assuming the OL gets fixed at some point.

update on life/death in Selawik. 3 deaths since I arrived, avg. one per week. That's a lot when there are only 900 people to start with. Latest was state trooper shot robbery suspect. Suspect was carrying. Am happy State Troopers are assigned here.

Ordered a happy light from amazon the other day. Supposed to arrive around Sept.3, which means it will arrive by October 1 at the latest. I researched the cold temps in the spring. lowest temp in December 2020 was -30. Lowest in January 21, -40. They had a blizzard here in April. I told people I brought the Texas heat a couple of weeks ago, when everybody was crying because of the 81 degree heat. No A/C up here.

Just looked at my previous post. The freezer guy in Euless did not work out, so I reversed the process, shopped dry goods in Texas and shopped frozen/fridge stuff in Anchorage. Anchorage had Texas-low prices; $2.99 per pound for 80/20 ground beef, and 6 pounds frozen chicken breast for $12.99. I purchased 30 pounds of chicken breast, 9 pounds of ground beef, plenty of cheese, etc. and one 48 ounce container of ice cream. Managed to get some breakfast sausage. Always got to have the ice cream. Now to conquer Amazon; 5 pounds of peanut butter should ship in the next couple of days. just to kind of document how this all went down, it was really, really weird. Here I was in the semi-bad airport part of Anchorage, at a sleazy motel only because of the walk-in freezer and of course the walk-in freezer was fabulous! A container on the property. Next time I attempt this move I will call the motel and ask if I can just rent the freezer for two nights. There are some other motels in the area better, but they don't have nearly the freezer space the America's Best does. I ended up buying slightly too much frozen food in Anchorage, so I put 7 pounds of the least desirable frozen food in my carry-on. It worked, because the two day housing I stayed at in Kotzebue had a traditional freezer on top of the refrigerator for the 7 pounds. I had already arranged for the local air taxi to store the two totes of frozen food. All good, until I arrived at my school housing, where I stupidly expected the school to put the freezer I had purchased in May inside my apartment unit. No dice. Vast amount of frozen food did fit inside the freezer on top of the fridge in the apt. while I waited the two or three days to get the freezer in the unit. The 7 or so pounds of frozen veggies stayed in the fridge section, so I don't anticipate problems. They will be eaten first. Bottom line the project worked, but I need to do better. The only semi-casualty was the lid coming off the ice cream, which lost an inch or so off the top of ice cream onto the rest of the frozen items. I should have anticipated that, will next time. I anticipate I will not need to make a real order this fall. Hopefully if COVID allows travel I will only need to travel back through Anchorage in December and repeat the process. I can take a chance on the Holiday Inn Express having enough freezer space. I know they have one large chest freezer, which in reality should be enough. It's just not the same as a walk in freezer.

May God bless American Airlines! What a great flight, except that it left DFW about 30 minutes late. Sitting in first class of a 787 for six and half hours, a lie-flat seat, with touchscreen controls, is the bomb. I think the flight actually arrived almost on time, despite leaving late. We were the fourth plane in a row taking off at DFW. I had a window seat, with 2 windows to look out, and of course you guys know about the tint control. Here is how much extra room I had. You know that overhead compartment. I had the entire compartment to myself for my two carryons. Wow! When we left DFW the screen showed 104 degrees. Watched programming I hadn't seen before, on their screen, listened to several kinds of music, watched the interactive screen showing details about the flight, took a 2 hour nap, etc. Btw, Anchorage was almost exactly 64 degrees when I arrived. The bonus was the tasty cold meal. I was told by an AA supervisor the other night about 12:30 a.m. that there was no meal. All she had to say was "there's no hot meal". Tiny little turkey pastrami sandwich with a side...strange no chips, but whatever. It was kind of funny listening to the gate person remind people several times before departure that there would be no food on the flight. She encouraged people to buy whatever. Some people did jump up and buy food. No apple pie. I had half a burger and fries leftover from lunch with the wife. Ate that while waiting for departure. Because of that great nap, I am still wide awake. And of course there is plenty of sunshine in Anchorage right now.

thanks. I am flying on the 787, which is a really big plane. I will check into the club access thing.

One free bag is the max. on any of the credit cards, it appears. True or False?

and Cool Whip Topping $1.99 With Card For two entrees that can be eaten during two nights in Anchorage, this is the number one contender: Home Chef Whole Roasted, 8-Piece Chicken or 5-Piece Tenders 2/ $10.00 When You Buy 2 With Card

flying AA DFW to Anchorage Monday. First class provides two bags at 70 pounds each, so here I go. Anybody care to explain how greatness of first class? First time ever. AA said no meal, so there's that. 6 and half hour flight. I imagine plenty of room in overhead compartments and under the seat?

Markets still falling like whoa
orangecat92 replied to Llano Estacado's topic in Business and Markets
Not at all. I enjoyed the huge run up in the 90s. I remember sitting one morning holding a newspaper looking at the end of the year returns, and my Janus 20 mutual fund returned 73 %. I knew it wouldn't last, but didn't anticipate the crash of early 2000s. Stayed the course, did well, and finally turned some of that IRA money into additional years of service, buying my six years back from ERS in 2012. That is what I call a guarantee good return. I Have stuck with Janus the entire time, and this is the first actual call I have made, calling for a bear sometime this year. I knew the Dow would come back strong after last year's COVID crash, but didn't have any money to deal. I plan to be ready to deal this time. The question is how long can I wait. I imagine one way to do it would be to buy on the dips, maybe once a month, and keep about 40% on the sidelines for the bear. Right now as I watch inflation hit pretty hard, I feel like the markets will feel the impact at some point this year. Could easily be wrong. -

Still sitting out since a really good day in late January. Have missed out on 8.89% gains in Dow Jones so far. I don't mind missing that amount. Still think there is a bear coming. Inflation is real and is here for a solid 2 years, imo. I remember the Exxon station at Burnet and Anderson Lane, during the inflationary 70s, all of a sudden gas hit an incredibly high 39.9 cents. Shocking! How soon can we expect the bear is the question. I am thinking consumer demand for back to school shopping and driving etc. will keep pushing prices higher, and then by the time we have 4 or 5 inflationary months in a row, the bear will start to come out of hibernation. Other than a quick appearance last year, dude has been sleeping forever, it seems. -
Misplaced ID story: How can businesses improve?
orangecat92 replied to orangecat92's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Imo it is called risk management. The feeling is 100% mutual. If I give a business my REAL ID, there is a chance of the business losing my REAL ID. If you told me I had a 5% chance of your employees losing my REAL ID at your business because of your employee incompetence, I would say no thanks. I get 5% because there were 20 customers who left the business during the time my sister and I were on the water. Not what I would call high traffic. The employees recovered by following my sister's and my guidance in problem solving. They were not 100% trained to problem solve by themselves. ID is viewed differently depending upon your circumstance. Maybe to the nice folks who live in Texas an ID is easily replaceable. My sister was the one who gave up the ID, but it could have easily been my REAL ID. I am in a little different circumstance wrt an ID. Living in Alaska since 2018, and visiting Texas, I am 100% dependent upon having a REAL ID to travel. Were it not for the pandemic, it is my understanding that a REAL ID would have become a nationwide requirement by now. REAL ID requirements are much stiffer than a regular ID. It is my understanding that a person cannot get on an airplane without a REAL ID, or a Passport. Please read Alaska Airlines info. below. "What is REAL ID? In 2005, Congress passed the REAL ID Act This indicates a link to an external site that may not follow the same accessibility or privacy policies as Alaska Airlines. By selecting a partner link you agree to share your data with these sites. to set nationwide security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. It prohibits federal agencies like the TSA from accepting identification from states that do not meet these standards, including getting through an airport security checkpoint to board a plane. REAL ID enforcement had been set to start October 1, 2020. Due to circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic the enforcement deadline has been changed to May 3, 2023." (Alaska Airlines response to REAL ID legislation, retrieved from alaskaair.com July 3 2021) Please tell me what kind of business you run that requires a 5% chance of your customers having their REAL ID lost because of employee incompetence and I promise I will avoid the sector. Seriously. -

Went kayaking with older sister yesterday on Lady Bird Lake. We got in a kayak for one hour, and the business misplaced her id. We both figured out at the same time what they should do, call everybody who left the business while we were on the lake and tell them to check to see if they have the correct id. Business slowly agreed with us. On the lake from 10 to 11 a.m. Hung around until my sister got what she needed, wrt promises, maybe 12:30 p.m. The id was delivered to my sister around 3:30 p.m. Hour of kayaking was free. No request necessary. Here is what I think happened. Being around water, I think her id was stuck to the back of someone's id. At one point while employees were looking all of the id's were stacked together Our scope of problem solving was too narrow at first. We thought business had given her id to someone with the same or similar name. Business reported no names similar. Business has cameras, good. Employee reported to us while she talked to a manager; manager saw on camera the employee put the id in the correct spot, and did not see anybody give out ids from that spot. maybe. We were a good team. I demanded to see a gm in person, told them we weren't leaving, etc. She was waaay too nice, but effective. She got them to agree to text, call, and email those 20 people. She got the GM to agree to sign a statement in front of notary(my idea) saying they misplaced the id, so she could get a new id if necessary. Other than hiring employees who do a better job, only thing I can think of is that if I am ever in the process of giving up my ID, I tell this story? I am good at beating people down with details. Also, maybe have a lanyard attached to id, and refuse to remove lanyard? Honestly, I don't think I am every giving up my REAL id anytime, ever. I mean at least with the airlines, you can see them holding your ID. interesting.

couldn't bring myself to go through the entire last three months. Is Norm retired?

I see this as a great series moving forward. The maroon gets my attention, and the fact you guys have the best stadium in college baseball makes me think this could be a fantastic series every year or every other year or so. Home and home. Let's do this CDC.

Congrats MSU. Couldn't come up with better nickname than dawg. Dogged, determined, never-give up attitude.

dang, I forgot about NC State. I was convinced we were #2, easily. I still think that, but it doesn't matter about NC State, because COVID etc.

I will split the difference and predict 6 innings for Bednar. I suspect the star reliever will be able to go three pretty easily, but if Vandy somehow ties it up things will be dicey. Are we sure State has the better bullpen? Hard to believe Bednar is a freshman. Fantastic job being a pitcher as opposed to a thrower. I think his ability to adjust is what gets him through 6 instead of 5.
-
This.HERE. We went in as the team with the clear advantage in pitching depth. By the time the 6th inning rolled around, we were afraid to insert any number of pitchers that were fresh because they had NOT pitched. Some of these guys are on at least a partial scholarship, or at least I would think. We recruit well. So, I am thinking the relievers we recruit have to be good enough to have confidence that they can pitch in a CWS game. But our manager thought better of that. He preferred a used up pitcher who had pitched about 100 pitches in the two appearances, who was falling apart, over a fresh, confident young pitcher from the bullpen. Why? Somebody please answer why he preferred the falling apart pitcher over the fresh pitcher? What am I missing? Seriously.
