  1. The two point conversion debate proves how DKR was way ahead of his time. He wanted to surprise the Hog D in 69, by going for 2 earlier than the last few minutes of the game. So when we scored to make it 14 to 6, at beginning of 4th quarter, he went for 2. Boom 14-8, led to 15-14.
  2. Colt’s last game in uniform.
  3. I went back and realized I was on page one of this madness. You can thank me now, because I have not watched one second of this incredible season. I read about the Kansas game on the Herm fired thread, and understand Shaka is channeling his inner Samson. What is happening? Did Shaka learn how to coach all of a sudden, or was it a slow process? Have we beaten any other really good teams, or is KU overrated? I will almost certainly keep my streak of not watching the team going, so you are all welcome.
  4. 1. Hire a great staff 2. Keep the foot on the gas 3. Play as many young players as u can. 4. Have fun, and let players see u having fun. Do these things and they result in the following: a. Team chemistry, playing for each other and the coach b. Kicking ass of all teams with less talent, just guessing 7-9 teams? c. Competitive game with OU d. A never give up attitude among players, which results in very low numbers of opt outs. If he does these four things to the highest degree possible, I don’t care if he wins 7 games or more. Win 6 and to me that means he failed at one of the objectives.
  5. aggy favored by how many?
  6. So, Urbs was on the good guys side. He just wasn't willing to put himself in there 100% to show how it can be done. I am just thrilled we are almost certainly never hiring anybody from the UM coaching tree again. Exception for Chris Ash, only because of his success this year? Is he really going to the pros? He's crazy. He will come crawling back to the college ranks in less than 3 years, imo.
  7. Ok. It's been real. It's been fun. and hell, yeah, it has been real fun! Now that this has gone this way, I am interested in Saban's power in this game. I will take a shot. I think it is possible Sark went to Saban and said I'm gonna accept this job, and we can keep it on the dl until Monday night after the game? And Nick thought about it about 30 minutes or so, and said you know what, what are the chances this can be kept under wraps for 9-10 days with absolutely no leaks? Also, Steve, you're going to want to interview assts. here and all over the country for possible jobs, so there is a ton more possibilities for leaks. Bottom line, this will leak out if you try to contain it. So, instead of trying to do the impossible, let's embrace the publicity, get the big news over with as quickly as possible after we beat Notre Dame, and that way get it out of the way, and also give the players something else to motivate them as well. They can give you a going away present- a National Championship. Saban can also give Sark hints on how to budget his time during the 9 days in between the semi-final game and the final game. Is Saban smart enough to come up with that tactic? He has certainly been around the huge stage long enough. Very possible. Will it work? I think it will. And once again Saban proves he is the GOAT of college coaches. Now for Urban, well dude, we tried hiring two of your "top" assistants, they couldn't do shit, and we finally gave up and tried you. Who knows why you positioned yourself as the best candidate for the job, but you did. You were so successful we offered you twice. We wanted to wait after the NC game and offer you a third time, but some people in our camp wouldn't wait. You passed up an opportunity to become that rare bird, a man with NCs at three different universities. And you passed up a chance to have a net worth of about $100 million in about 6 years. I hope you enjoyed this little fishing expedition, and I hope to God we are done with your coaching tree. has·ta la vis·ta
  8. If we're talking about a safe hire, Kelly was the only option after Urbs. If I was CDC I would have made Urbs say no a third time, and then gone to BK. But, that assumes CDC is running the show, which you guys are saying he doesn't. If I am CDC and have no control, this is what you get. The only questions for me are the following: 1. Will Texas have a clause in the contract about coaching while impaired? 2. Will Texas have a more favorable buy-out option than existed while Herm was here? 3. Will Texas commit to no extension unless the coach wins the Big 12? 4. Will Texas structure the contract with heavy performance bonuses: i.e. lower base salary than Tom, but say $1 million to win the Big12, another $1 million to be in the playoffs and $5 million to win the whole thing?
  9. You cannot describe the situation in hindsight. Were you actually around when the Freedom Bowl Massacre happened? I lived in Austin at the time, and revisited this the other day. The team voted to NOT go to the bowl game and the AD decided to go anyway. Akers could not persuade the players to give a shit about the game. The score was 55-17 in the third quarter. Anybody who cared about Texas football enough to pay attention knew at the time that Fred had lost the team. We had to wait TWO full years to let Fred go. I saw many aggy cars shoepolished "Keep Fred" before the 1986 aggy game, that we knew we would lose. Fred was a good man, but he was long overdue to be let go. There was no way anybody could predict in 1986 that there would be a one-person coaching search. Just like today, at least the first half of the equation was 100% correct. The good news is the decision-makers have accelerated their decisions. After spending two years too long with Fred, we spent much less extra time with Herm. I personally did not feel like Herm needed to be fired until the 'Sam all by himself singing the eyes' event occurred after OU. Imo he should have been fired after our last regular season game. I don't think you fire a coach mid-season unless there are incredibly rare extenuating circumstances. So, by that standard we only held onto Tom about 3-4 weeks too long. This is a major improvement.
  10. This is the answer. This is absolutely David McWilliams 2.0. If memory serves, the difference between then and now is that David was hired based on DKR's recommendation and nobody else had a vote. David was much younger in his head coaching career also, having been a career assistant. Sark has had two or three attempts at being a head coach. The only reason he may not crash and burn is his offensive philosophy/recruiting ability.
  11. Is this the ultimate head fake? Feed Chip Brown Sark info. to let Urbs know what?
  12. Fields' injury? Anything to report?
  13. To be more specific, Leach owns the best record in Washington State history, making him the best coach in Washington State history.
  14. where do you think he learned that bs from? GD that's who. GD basically ended Colt's season two years, not one, with multiple stupid QB sneaks Against Kansas State one year and then the NC game against 'bama.
  15. I feel like this is the closest two TD game ever.
  16. Well, I wasn't impressed by the ND showing, but I have to stick with what I believed beforehand. Since Kelly's team did not get blown out by more than the spread, he is in position 1A, trailing only Urbs, in terms of what he could actually accomplish here. He certainly meets the experience factor indicated earlier. He has been the chief and been successful at more than one place. He appears to be a successful CEO. Of course the gap between Urbs and BK is huge, but this move certainly looks like something Texas might make happen. I do not believe Urbs has felt like there was another coach that Texas could possibly be interested in. Now, there might be a slight nod from Urbs that the Texas job may not be open indefinitely just for him. He might want to think about how many chances he has left to win a NC at a university that has an open bank account. Will his value to college football be any higher than it is right now? I don't think so. I think he has reached his peak and now is the time for him to act to pile up multi-generational wealth for his family tree. The timing is perfect for Urbs to make his ultimate decision after an OhioSt. loss tonight. I am still on the Urbs bandwagon. The ball is still in his court.
  17. so a meaningless TD coming up for ND, so they beat the spread! Wow!
  18. game over, only thing left is the margin. I say 24.
  19. I can't believe ND actually stopped 'bama. ND have a chance at getting back in this thing?
  20. If I could get 'bama -21.5 right now I would take it. I don't think Saban is about to put up with this ND keeping it close bit.
  21. Can we put a "no caught drunk" clause in the contract? If so, the advantage is we could leave the D alone. Would he even need to change OCs? Change OL coach of course. Is this option a better option than Herm? Of course it is, right?
