  1. Looking at the history of Texas, there needs to be about 3 qualities that fans require to embrace a b-ball coach. 1. Personality of the coach...blame Abe for settling this high standard....Shaka?...don’t think so 2. Entertaining b-ball.....look at weltlich....the year he finally won, Brownlee etc. took a picture in front of the Erwin Center sign “sold out”. That was the only game sold out in Bobs tenure...and the game was against aggy pretty sure..visiting fans helped a ton, I believe. Weltlich ball was about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Shakaball...entertaining? Don’t think so. 3. Winning. See Penders/Barnes level..........Shaka? Big thumbs down here. IMO Shaka is 0 for 3......... I can see a razor close win against OSU, followed by a loss, followed by a big loss as a 12 seed....The hot shooting is coming to an end soon? Did it already end last night?
  2. Is he weak if he gives a 3 or 4 year extension?
  3. Shaka is gonna win at least one game in the tourney, and his agent is gonna come in sky high expecting four more years and a big pay raise. Hopefully cdc is so ice cold that the agent gets upset and tells Shaka it’s time to move on. Home attendance avg. is still going to be one of the worst years. Some teams will be interested. Should be interesting.
  4. Well, if getting a T is what it takes, I say go for the T early and often. The discrepancy is so great, he should go for 2 Ts if one doesn’t do the trick. Getting kicked out of a game is not the worst thing that could happen. The players should know the coach is fighting for them every game, not just every so often.
  5. 19 point ft discrepancy and the team on the bad end wins? It’s hard to imagine that happening before.
  6. any chance Iowa St. pulls upset? W. Virginia is awful lately.
  7. And it starts. I looked at contracts yesterday and shakas contract ending in 3 years was on the low side. His agent will be all over cdc wanting an extension as soon as the season is over. I hope cdc has a brain.
  8. Exactly. The key will be how many years are left on his contract. Only 3 years left. His agent was smart enough to figure out that because Perrin was temp., he wouldn’t care about the long term. Boom, agent gets Perrin to add a year. In a couple of weeks, agent will be trying to convince cdc to add years. Hopefully agent will suggest he can get a longer than 3 year deal somewhere else. Hopefully cdc says go ahead and Shaka will get a great recommendation from UT.
  9. So, I looked at an article showing coaches salaries from last year. Shaka was number 17, but my theory is the team stays hot, and some teams below shakas salary will leap up, to pay him more than he makes here. There are 42 teams that paid at least 2.4million last year, including a bunch of sec teams. Remember SEC teams have their network to pump more money, so they can jump up and offer Shaka a raise. This could really happen. All we need is one win in the big tourney. And an AD smart enough to say no to extension.
  10. Looks kind of like Norm. I see both Junior and George are there.
  11. How about a really off the wall possibility. Team wins next 4 games, wins a first round NCAA game. Shaka s agent comes to cdc expecting an extension, gets turned down flat. Agent is so pissed, he tells Shaka to strike while the iron is hot, so Shaka gets a job at another power 5 school. Since he gets a raise to go somewhere else, that voids the contract, correct? We would get to move on.
  12. Can still lose 4 in a row, or win 4 in a row.if he wins 3 more, I say he comes back. If he wins 4 or more, I wouldn’t be surprised to see extension.
  13. Shot more free throws than tech. First time in conference play since?
  14. Final on fouls....in the last 22 minutes of game time, which is after the tech. Foul, 8 against us, 10 against tech. called evenly.....If shaka doesn’t get technical foul, do we get the evenly called 22 minutes? Don’t think so. lesson learned. Shaka should come on even stronger at beginning of games. Let refs know he’s not laying down.
  15. Foul calls sill favor us heavily since technical.
  16. Fouls 2nd half ..tech 4 us 0....getting the tech foul worked.
  17. Last two fouls, yes, so game was called even after tech foul.....granted only 2.5 minutes, but better than before.
  18. So after the tech. Foul Refs called 1 against us and 3 against tech. Maybe next game Shaka should work refs harder earlier?
  19. All fouls called 10 to 3. Can this go on the entire season?
  20. Imo, it got better because the writers were able to adapt the script to fit the actors. Example, the basic theme being cheating people is bad: Burns cheated soldiers out of money by listening to a baseball game, betting the results with enlisted men and making $ when the game was replayed. Winchester's character attempted to cheat the locals of their money during the script change episode. The Winchester episode was a better example I believe, because of the way the writers showed Winchester's emotions when he realized he had been had by Hawkeye and BJ, who used Winchester's words against him in the end, offering 10 cents on the dollar, the exact rate Winchester had offered to the locals. I think better writing, because we got to see the gamut of emotions from Winchester.
  21. The thing I liked so much about MASH was that it didn’t matter which actor they lost, they just got better. After Larry linville, I thought the show would go down quite a bit, but Ogden stiers did such a good job with the Major Winchester role. The writing was the real star of course. I really enjoyed the crazy visiting generals, and. Colonel Flagg. The only time the writing needed a boost I think was at the end. That show needed the return of Flagg and some funny lines. The show was taking itself way too seriously by then. MASH is only the 3rd finale I remember, and the most watched prime time finale ever. MASH lasted almost 4 times as long as the war it depicted.
  22. This. I think CDC is waiting for the motivated BMD to come to him. Cdc is not going out of his way to pay 2 head coaches at the same time and cause himself more work, when a year from now he can interview candidates with the promise that they will get to open a brand new gym. Plus cdc doesn’t know if Herman will work out or not. He doesn’t want to have to hire both football and basketball at the same time. This thing has got to make sense fir cdc, or a BMD has to make it easy for him. I think
  23. I don’t think most of the actual winning games or not matters to the degree that a fan might think. Go back and look. Before LHN basketball was viewed as a revenue sport, the #2 revenue sport behind football. It even released some coaches with years left on their contract, specifically weltlich. Why? Because UT believed we needed the revenue? I think so. Now, we have this awful team because of a horrible coach with a marginally winning record because nobody cared enough to make the coach schedule some decent teams. So we have this awful product on the court, nobody goes to the games, but AD doesn’t care about attendance because? I think we don’t need the money, because LHN has replaced basketball as the number 2 revenue source. There is no way to make our AD care about the sport unless there is enough embarrassment to make a BMD come to CDC with the big bucks to pay Shaka salary for the next 2 or 3 years. Why not take some of the gazillion $ that we get from LHN and pay this “coach” to go sit at home? This is what I don’t understand. How do you fix this? Wait until LHN expires to expect excellence?
  24. But we’re definitely in the NIT, that is for sure. The key for Shaka is to postpone the end of the season, as long as he can. If we host 2. NIT games at 2000 fans each, that will lower the season average attendance down to maybe a record low. Keep in mind the record low attendance figure is about 4000, from one of weltlichs years. I think Shaka comes back unless he loses out. Cdc wants no part of this, IMO.
  25. I view it this way. It's all about CDC. He is doing what the previous AD did, listen to the BMDs. Allegedly the reason Shaka was given an extension was the BMDS wanted it, or one BMD wanted it. I think CDC is gonna lay low unless some BMDs come to him and demand change. I don't think CDC cares about the money lost from low basketball attendance, because there is so much $ from LHN. The game that interests me is the last game this season against OSU. Imagine a tight game and we revert back to folding in the last minute, giving us 3 losses in a row. There will still be some doubt in Shaka's future at that point.
