  1. Does a balloon have a terminal velocity? I would think horizontal wind speed would always be zero. Wind blows you blow with it - feels like no wind. But vertical - thermal rising… if you go up too quickly the think inverts or collapses or something sporty like that? what is terminal V?
  2. “We’re going to put this thing in a steep dive and as soon as the skydivers jump, we’ll go up like a ballistic missile. Then we’ll dump a bunch of air until we level off. It’s gonna be great - hold onto your champagne flutes everybody.”
  3. Aha! Informative. Is there an upper limit in ballon ascent velocity? As I understand it - dropping all the skydiver weight causes so much positive ascent that may exceed balloon’s limits. So they start off in rapid descent to ameliorate that, and then start dumping lift as soon as it gets light? More dangerous than I initially thought.
  4. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna133898 Ballon, skydivers skydive, and the rest perished. comment. What’s the failure mode for these things? Power lines? Fire? Storm?
  5. Can we get on flight radar and figure out what we have loitering in the neighborhood? Oh, and highly irrelevant but cool nonetheless. The CO of the George Bush is a W.B. Ray high school grad from Corpus Christi. I’m sure he wanted to go to Texas but Navy offered him a ride.
  6. Somebody splain to me what is a Houthi. Yemeni person not with the government? yemeni soldier? Are all Yemeni’s Houthi’s? are they like the Kurds? There but sorta anti establishment? Long established or new visitors to that area?
  7. Mr. Elko’s agent needs to parlay this into a raise. You know the play - run it.
  8. Maybe I can find solace in the fact that some of those Washington fans we saw in NO spent a lot of $$ to get there, and then turned around and did it again, just to taste defeat. I'm guessing a W fan that went to both games spent minimum $6,000 for the experience. Now, you Huskies go back to your desks and get to work like the rest of us.
  9. The play that was called was three receivers left side to clear out, running back goes out into the flat, and ADM alone on the right. That play is designed (I think) to get a 1 on 1 for Mitchell. It looks like he is the first read. Ewers go/no go is probably "if Mitchell is 1 on 1 throw it - if there are two purple shirts there, look left and crank it to the open guy." Seems like it was very effective because he was... 1 on 1. Seems like Ewers did his job because the ball was in Mitchell's catch radius. Maybe not perfect - 2 feet lower would have been nice - but not a wild miss. After all the batted balls, I could see the qb throwing everything a little high. What is success rate of that play for 13 yards? 50%? Maybe some football expert can help with this - why is that play to the right/short side of the field and not left/wide side of the field? Shorter pass?

    Onside Kicks

Somewhere there is a spreadsheet that includes number of scores and possessions per game, average yard line of recovered onside kicks, and quantifies the risk and benefit. You give up 40-50 yards of field position if you don't recover, but you gain a possession near midfield if you do recover. How do you value that in a football game? Does it matter if you're a high scoring team or grind it out team? Seems like a team with a finomenal defense would risk less than a porous defense.
  11. The 4th down play/last play of the game - wide open playbook, right? Run/pass/option/reverse whatever, right? Clock doesn't matter, getting tackled in bounds doesn't matter. Run 1 play to get 13 yards? What play do you call? Something with QE rolling out looking for receivers and a chance to make it happen? I know we had some misdirection plays where we roll right and throw back left to running back. Do you run that? It is clear to me that Sark thought J Whitt and AD were the best options in that situation. They were the first reads for those 4, right? In 2005 the play on 4th down was to give VY a zone read, right? That was about 8 yards but I bet that same play would have gone for 15? Oh, and rewatching it, Selvin was open. Somebody named Young was going to score on that play.
  12. I stand by what I said. Cruise terminals screw up destinations. Galveston may be an exception.
  13. Having a cruise terminal in your city pretty much screws up the culture. New Orleans is special, but waiting in long line at cafe du monde, and having long line stare at you while you eat, just makes it feel a little cafeteria-ish. Get in the herd, stand in line, get your little taste of _________, and then get on/off the ship. Oh, and don't forget your Marriott points - you can use those to buy a Big Captain platter at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. next time you travel with us.
  14. I for one would like another shot at that game. I feel like our A game against what I saw in the superdome, we would whip their asses. I understand that's not how it works.
  15. The wife and daughter sitting next to us were as cool as could be. If it's your crew, your wife gave us "Quinning" buttons and your daughter has a pretty cool pair of boots. They were the best neighbors we could have asked for - good people. I'm the guy with the 11 year old from east Texas. Cocaine Washington guy got lippy with my kid. I missed it but your wife didn't, she was pissed off and got the burnt orange suite/section behind us on the bandwagon. Then your daughter started calling the guy names including "bald guy." I thought it was pretty funny that husband/dad bought tickets in a Washington section and then made wife/daughter go sit there. I like your style.
  16. Me too. Sad. You form bonds with the players - really liked Sweat, Worthy and Bert. They become part of the discussions I have with my kids, not quite family but important to us. Now, some of that is gone. I really hope these guys go on to the NFL and get paid but I'm not going to watch some random game between the Raiders and the Chargers to see if a receiver gets 100 yards. Now, a few months of cold and then spring, and we can start over. We got a little lippiness in our section 328C but they didn't really want any smoke. Arkansas 2021 - crowd was rowdy. A&M next year - I predict bad blood. These W fans were just drunk and a little too football obsessed.
  17. We wasted at least an hour before we even got to the bridge. WTF? How can you people not work together to merge - we should be able to do this at between 20 and 40 mph at least.
  18. Oh, and somehow between NO and BR we broke a rear window on the car. Rock flew up? Gunfire? Loud bang and Passenger rear window total spiderwebbed to hell. I bet that’s $500 tomorrow.
  19. A photoessay of my day. 1. Beignets at cafe du monde 2. Made it to Lafayette many hours later after a stupid traffic jam in BR and a minor jam on the Atcha bridge. Pulled up to my sammich place and W car was already there. Kids wanted to steal the flag but cooler heads prevailed. 3. Shrimp poboy for the road. Awesome weekend with my family and longhorn friends. I wish they had won but even with the loss - great memories. Thanks to all that volunteered or worked toward masking sure Texas travels well and in style. Hook ‘em y’all!
  20. I’m at the Comfort Inn in Matchitoches. 11 year old had to take a big old NO deuce. Thanks for letting us use your bathroom - the truck stop was unsuitable for a young longhorn fan.
  21. Baton Rouge traffic jam FTW!
  22. I think some of those were a DB running his ass off after being beat. Looked like recovery mode - not stride for stride play the ball.
  23. It seemed like the plays/lineups were getting in to the defense late. multiple occasions Sweat and crew are standing up looking at sideline while Wash is ready to snap the ball. I understand the d coordinator calls plays and lineups but those guys got to be dialed in earlier. Did I just imagine that?
  24. Sat in 328c. nice - club access, clean restrooms. Sat with some cool horn fans and some former Washington football players who played for sark. Good crew. About 1 out of 8 Washington fans acted like they either got into the cocaine - Violently high fiving their wives at every little success. First down costs your wife a sprained wrist. Or they were football psychopaths that need counseling. Saw wives trying to tell their husbands to stop drinking. Adults - not 18 year olds. I don’t know how you can get that faced drinking bud light but they did. Otherwise was a cool experience except for the loss.
  25. What happened on that pass play to worthy that was a deep ball incompletion. First half. It looked like Worthy never even looked for the ball. Just running down field with a defender and ball bounces on ground next to him. Miscommunication? Who is that on?
