  1. Take the backpack and if you have a decent rain jacket like something from rei that packs up small, take that too. #nopoorspanchos
  2. Try this: 1. Contributions are not taxed as income to the organization. 2. Some income of the organization like investment earnings aren’t taxed either. 3. If the organization strays from its stated exempt purpose it pays UBIT (unrelated business income tax). 4. When the money leaves the entity for a private benefit (e.g. wages to an employee), then that individual pays income tax. 5. When the money leaves the entity for a public benefit (e.g. food for a food bank) then no tax due. 6. When the entity closes or ceases operations it cannot distribute its assets back to the donor or to any private individual but must instead pay these to other non-profits or similar recipients. these laws are already on the books and enforced.

  8. When you go through the drive through kfc in Marshall, Texas and get some chicken that may be the best kfc in America. I mean it was perfect. Then, when you’re thinking “I’m going to post on surly about how great the Marshall kfc is, this news must be shared,” you realize that they shortdicked you out of your biscuit, and you’re halfway to Carthage. You gonna drive back to Marshall for a biscuit? Nope, just soak in your misery, sans biscuit. Dammit.

https://www.reagan.navy.mil/xo.html XO on the Reagan is a Texan. Strangely, he went right past college station to the naval academy. I guess not all “military colleges” are equal.
  10. Wild berry cafe by the water tower/ritz Carlton. Great American breakfast. Would eat 3 times a week.
  11. I’m going to drive from Texarkana to Galveston Thursday night. It’s about 290 miles. i hope to keep it under 6 hours and will probably stop at a whataburger in Timpson to rehydrate and refuel. this post really hits close to home.
  12. How did the cops not find the meth. There was meth present - it’s a certainty.
  13. I let your mom take me out for a seafood dinner.
  14. I raced from Port Aransas to Port Isabel once on a j/24. We were a pretty decent windward leeward squad with 0 experience offshore/overnight but, “how hard can it be?” All electronics quit (vhf, gps, cabin lights) at about midnight except for duct taped on nav lights, but whatever - just go south. we realized we had a problem at about 7am when the wind died about 30 miles from the finish and the only supplies we had left were 3 18 packs of red dog beer, a bottle of vodka, 2 packs of smokes and some fireworks. That was a long hot morning. I drank cooler water that day.
  15. That’s code for “Our beer isnt going to hold out all the way to Hawaii.”
  16. I'm pretty sure my mother-in-law has purchased one of those more recently, say... within the past 10 years. I thought this thread might deliver me from some shame. It has yet to deliver.
  17. And you should get yourself to south Florida and wreck shop, post haste. Do we need Thujone to draw you a picture?
  18. It works like this. Some attractive lady in a bikini top with some see through skirt/wrap will stroll by on the beach and when she walks by your chair she will say in a low voice "massaje?" with an "h" sound, not the "ge" sound you typically associate with this service. She will be attractive, she probably won't take American Express, and there will be more than one provider that walks by. I didn't ask for a menu of services, and I didn't personally partake in the services, but my instinct tells me that if the masseuse is wearing a bikini, she's probably a professional.
  19. May I take issue with characterizing this as a "scholarship?" Look, I'm not saying it's bad policy, or that I'm against it. In fact, I think it's good policy to take the best and brightest, regardless of income, and use them for betterment of society. It seems like this is designed to make sure that the best and brightest (top 6% at least) do not take lesser paths, because of lack of resources. Given the chance to vote on this issue, I would vote for it. However, the definition of scholarship is: a grant or payment made to support a student's education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. As best i can tell the only academic or other achievement required here is for your parents to be below a certain income. In my world, that means you didn't achieve anything. Perhaps if we want to be an institution of excellence, we start with using the proper nomenclature. That is all.
  20. Miami in the summer is hot, but not as hot as most of Texas. I cannot stress strongly enough that, if you want to sit on a beach for 72 hours and have people do everything for you, go to one of these places. If service is valued by you, and you want a taste of the easy life, go here. If you're worried about the heat, they will have a cabana boy or girl surround you with 4 beach umbrellas, and they'll come adjust them throughout the day to make sure you're shaded. If you've always wanted to have a couples massage, in your room, from a Eastern European massage independent contractor, they have that too. House car will be a Bentley, Escalade or Tesla and the concierge will move you up the list at any restaurant.
  21. This is the correct answer: https://www.acqualinaresort.com/ This is second place https://m.fourseasons.com/surfside/ direct flight to FLL, 15 minute Uber to hotel.
