  1. Find a place with a couch. You know, for the visitors from the internets who like RRB and wine.
  2. Closer to a year ago. https://www.forbes.com/sites/tonybradley/2017/07/31/facebook-ai-creates-its-own-language-in-creepy-preview-of-our-potential-future/#ed51789292c0 Facebook shut down an artificial intelligence engine after developers discovered that the AI had created its own unique language that humans can’t understand. Researchers at the Facebook AI Research Lab (FAIR) found that the chatbots had deviated from the script and were communicating in a new language developed without human input. It is as concerning as it is amazing – simultaneously a glimpse of both the awesome and horrifying potential of AI. This is a scary part if you are willing to forecast out some based on how we learn and how AI is being taught to learn: https://www.wired.com/2017/03/openai-builds-bots-learn-speak-language/ Still, many AI researchers think the deep neural network approach, figuring out language through statistical patterns in data, will still work. "They're essentially also capturing statistical patterns but in a simple, artificial environment," says Richard Socher, an AI researcher at Salesforce, of the OpenAI team. "That's fine to make progress in an interesting new domain, but the abstract claims a bit too much." Nonetheless, Mordatch's project shows that analyzing vast amounts of data isn't the only path. Systems can also learn through their own actions, and that may ultimately provide very different benefits. Other researchers at OpenAI teased much the same idea when they unveiled a much larger and more complex virtual world they call Universe. Among other things, Universe is a place where bots can learn to use common software applications, like a web browser. This too happens through a form of reinforcement learning, and for Ilya Sutskever, one of the founders of OpenAI, the arrangement is yet another path to language understanding. An AI can only browse the internet if it understands the natural way humans talk. Meanwhile, Microsoft is tackling language through other forms of reinforcement learning, and researchers at Stanford are exploring their own methods that involve collaboration between bots. In the end, success will likely come from a combination of techniques, not just one. And Mordatch is proposing yet another technique—one where bots don't just learn to chat. They learn to chat in a language of their own making. As humans have shown, that is a powerful idea. We are essentially teaching them how to think based on how we learn as children, through reinforcement techniques, patterns, problem solving, don't do that, do this instead, and when you bring in an AI's ability to piece together everything through statistics and logic, large vast arrays of information that are now digitized, and the ability to take lessons learned and apply them to solve the problems being presented to them, it will allow them to quickly and dramatically leap frog our human capabilities to control and learn.
  3. Maybe this year they will show favor to us with that regional. Who knows though as they do love to set us up for a harder path to the CWS.
  4. So you're saying there is another planet with oceans similar to ours? Sweet.
  5. Food motivation - reward every time they go into the crate. Cover it up with a blanket or towel. Does it know the "no" command, yet? If so, use it when it starts to whine. Also, wear the puppy out prior to bed time so it is ready to pass out. Lastly, second/third the routine factor. My 4 month old knows her routine in the AM and in the evening and is okay with crating. It took her about a week to adjust and had to ignore the whining at first. Also, I moved her crate into the living room instead of the guest bedroom so she will feel more included instead of being isolated.
  6. Shit, I'll give them my cheap Taylor scale.
  7. This doesn't surprise me and while we are focused here on our own privacy, insecurities about something we cannot readily control, or so it appears, we are going to need AI pilots if we are going to do any major space exploration beyond Mars. That being said, it is one of the reasons why I am torn about AI development. I agree with the one side that we need major controls and security processes in place and AI needs to be developed with that mindset first and second, then AI functionality third. There are more reasons to be concerned like the fact that they have already created their own language that we cannot fully understand, yet. However, if we do plan to explore beyond Mars, we are going to need some AI similar to 2001 Space Odyssey or many of the other Sci-Fi flicks out there. At the same time, we are not able to do the complex mathematics fast enough to ensure human and ship safety in many circumstances. If it takes NASA years, plus, extremely large super-computers to develop the algorithms necessary for our safety what is going to happen in real-time when we are in a 5+ hour delay in communications and shit hits the proverbial fan? An AI could quickly assess and provide quick countermeasures to ensure the safety.
  8. What if we are the hillbilly dumbasses?
  9. my upstairs neighbors are an obese couple with him around 280-290 and she is close if not more than 300 as well. I swear to god they are going to fall through the ceiling and make noise from 5:30am till after midnight every day. Fuck them. I refuse to make friends with them because that will take away from my disdain. They have two dogs and only walk 2 feet from their stairs to let the dogs do their business. And when they walk down the stairs, it's like a total solar eclipse in my windows from her blocking the sun light.
  10. Yup, I've had that sammich combo and it was okay. Edible for sure, and definitely needed the sauce to make it worthwhile.
  11. As an observer of the chaos, it is incredibly entertaining. Much like a scripted reality tv show for the masses except it's not the kardashians or amazing race.
  12. Pinballz has the classics
  13. Another question I have around this are around all the documentaries. Are they all conspiracy theorist, not to be believe fake news, or are they a smidgen of truth and then expanded upon and lastly, are they true?
  14. Not necessarily in HS and my list: Basketball: Darius Miles - AAU Ball OJ McClintock - when he was at westwood Pickup games: TJ Ford, Chris Mihm, PJ Tucker, etc. plus others like the griffin bros (dbs) Baseball: Peoples' bros like Nick and his middle brother Danks' bros (basketball and racquetball) Many who went on to play D1 ball throughout little league and now old man softball
  15. We live in BBQ paradise and the rest are mere imposters. If it needs saucing then it probably isn't good is my stance and most outside of Texas need a good saucing to make it edible. Otherwise, it's too dry, too bland, to jerky like to really matter. Proper pulled pork doesn't need a ton of sauce if you cook it right as it has plenty of fat to render. Brisket, we all know is the same. Hell, even lean doesn't need to be dry AF. I've tried que from California, Utah, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas City, Carolina, Maryland/DC, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, West Texas, East Texas, South Texas, etc. They all make me miss Central Texas Que.
  16. Do aliens exist, are they explainable, are the myriad of documentaries true or misinformation to distract for some other propaganda? It's an interesting thought experiment and topic for me because there are so many unexplained experiences people have seen from laymen, policemen, to military leaders. Bill Clinton has talked about it on late night TV shows, Obama has, and again there are so many documentaries about it. Varying programs have been declassified and at the minimum lend credence to they exist, yet, no "real evidence" has come out. No major scientific group has dug in to research this topic, publically, etc. I'd like to believe they exist based on where there is smoke there is fire and without hard evidence or personal experience, I have to lean on the side that they don't due to logic and reasoning. Thoughts of the nerdz crowd?
  17. I'm going to wash my truck next week. #norain #nowhammies
  18. Without the NCAA-Industrial-Complex making their money in a clear and discernable way, this will never happen. Fun thought experiment though.
  19. bump that up to 74 events per hour and you have my score. what do I win chuck? Doc, you win a CPAP! Crowd goes wild, stops breathing, goes wild again with a new surge of air.
  20. Anybody try the limited release reserve tabasco? I bought some this past weekend and haven't tried it, yet. Will be interesting to see if it's any different than normal tabasco. also, yes to every other one posted.
  21. No kidding. It took me part of yesterday and this AM to read; damn it was good. One of the best articles I've read recently and they spell checked everything. I really hope Chapman is awarded the medal despite the conflict between the two branches. Sounds like he truly went above and beyond all the while going out to protect the US troops.
  22. when did surl/shag go from onry fuckers who shoulder checked sooners to being a bunch of coaches on the little league field?
  23. KCBS does The last KCBS comp I did chicken didn't have enough bite through and crispy skin, no call. Pork ribs got called and also needed more spice to sweet, brisket got called and needed less pepper, and pulled pork was too dry, no call.
