I think age is relevant. I wouldn’t hire someone on the verge of 60 and not overly inclined at 50+. Pierce at the time of his hiring would probably be the oldest you’d want to hire.
My points are that you are knocking one guy for actual accomplishments when there’s similar data available for your alternatives. Then picking and choosing when history starts.
It has not been discussed here, but it’s a valid question and one people likely have no clue about. But Texas (43) high end talent trails CA (79) and FL (67) and is closer to GA (39) than those two. That was from an article in 2020 from the prior decade about 1st round picks in the draft. I suspect that held since 2020 too. That talent is not going to be drawn to the Big 12. We will acknowledge that in football but ignore it here.
I don’t know the answer as to how impactful it is, but that’s one of the most important questions here. How limiting was the Big 12 in getting players here? I’m quite confident in saying LSU wins nothing without Paul Skenes. Hell, LSU got a top talent from the ACC. Why would a guy like Skenes (or White) take less money to play in the Big 12 over the SEC or the ACC? That’s the type of player we should have more access to now. And you were the one introducing facilities and atmosphere.
And former Longhorn Mitchell Daly couldn't wait 1 more year to get to the SEC nor get to Omaha again -- he left Texas and Pierce's Bullshit for Kentucky.
He's contributing at Kentucky, and they're making their first-ever trip to Omaha this year.

City owns Comal St. though and there lies the problem.
The University already wants to take the left field scoreboard down and move it behind stands to be built there behind the left field wall. The University owns the property that DF sits on and the grassy area before the tennis courts and of course the tennis center. COA right now wants to keep that road that is between them and is being a pain in the ass about closing it even though all it serves as of right now is an extra driveway to the parking garage.
Seems to me that the BOR/Mr. Eltife needs to FLEX once more, and tell the COA what they need to do.

For starters:
State of the art hitting lab - LSU has the best hitting lab in the country, so much so MLB players that aren't even affiliated go there to train in the offseason.
State of the art pitching lab - See above but sub Wake Forrest for LSU
Make Texas baseball facilities the premier place for training for Texas players, MLB players, etc.Home locker room complete renovation
Player rec hall, trophy room, etc for strictly baseball for recruiting/player ammentities.
Player weight training facility, this could be part of the just mentioned rec hall.More seating in the outfields for students and create a student oasis of sorts to drive engagement and fun atmosphere for them. Create fun things for them to do pregame instead of just showing up sitting there and cheering(See how much student seating and gameday changes for students has improved our student crowd at DKR) and just for the general fan as well. Make Texas baseball an event, not just a game(Insert old baseball take from boomer here about how it should be about the game).
To that end, Texas owns both sides of Comal Street now, they should close the end of the street next to The Disch, and there's your space not just for new outfield stands, but for a wide concourse with concessions and more out there.

Yeah you don't even need to go that far you just need to take them all. Even if the top 12/16 are play in, you can still match up 17/18, 19/20, 20/21, what the fuck ever. The worst thing really left in CFB is conference affiliations, especially with bowl games. Now that the Rose is gleefully dead, let's nuke the rest from orbit.

OB update on Pierce from their baseball writer
* The waiting game continues to see what Athletic Director Chris Del Conte will do with regard to the head coaching position at Texas. Officially, there is no opening at this time, as David Pierce remains the head coach. Behind the scenes though, there have been multiple conversations that have occurred to gauge interest, find out what it would take, etc.
At this time, all sources continue to advise that a change will be made. While most expected it to happen immediately once the Horns were eliminated from the season, that is not modus operandi for CDC. The revealing of the new golf coach is a great example of that. In addition, CDC has spent quite a bit of time this week in Oklahoma City as the Horns softball team looks to bring home a national title. Silence is golden and CDC has not come out and said, no, this is our guy.
I tend to believe that there will be much more movement after this weekend.
* Getting into the list of names, here are the names that have been floated and a few quick notes on each.
Jim Schlossnagle (Texas A&M) - could this one still happen? Sure, anything is possible, but based on what sources have said today, it feels like a bridge too far.
Jay Johnson (LSU) - Most will scoff at this based on his recent national title and the school he is at, but there is mutual interest. The biggest hinderance to Johnson is his pay and the amount of money it will take to pry him away from Marucci, I mean LSU.
Tony Vitello (Tennessee) - Maserati Tony was never really under consideration. CDC and Tony know each other from their days at TCU and as mentioned before, there is a personality conflict there. Reports are surfacing today that Tony is about to sign a sizable extension and you can close the book on this one becoming reality.
Brian O'Connor (Virginia) - Elite defense and pitching. On the surface, not the sexiest name, but once you look at how he runs his programs and the success he has had, you start to love what he could bring. I haven't yet had anyone say, he is out. I also haven't had anyone say that there is a huge mutual interest.
Erik Bakich (Clemson) - Young, energetic, develops, and knows how to get the most out of a program. Bakich in my opinion would be a slam dunk hire. Texas would be getting one of the premier young head coaches in the nation. His salary also makes this a very attractive option.
Skip Johnson (Oklahoma) - There are certainly boosters that would like to see it happen, I just dont get the feeling talking to folks around Texas that he would be considered.
Rob Vaughn (Alabama) - A true dark horse in the race, he has only been at Bama for a year, but he was mighty impressive at Maryland and is highly regarded in the baseball circles. If this was 3-5 years down the line, he probably gets a look, but unfortunately, probably not in contention at this juncture.PsyOp OB post -- Anyone that Jabba's Hucksters at OB claim is "out" is actually is "IN," and actually are the coaches who CDC is targeting, despite any purported raise to Vitello or no raise to Vitello, or Italian-family-bloodfeud-hatred/whatever/Lulz or whatever the hell that other part is that has nothing to do with baseball.
I agree with @chase25 that this article is crap.
For my bit, Money-whip Vitello, and Let's Fucking Go getting these SEC rivalries ignited and heated up! Hook'Em!

The coaches we may be after won't be done until July.

Since CDC hasn't made a post on X/Twitter congratulating the baseball team on a hard-fought-year/blah, etc., that sure as Hell seems like a sign that DP is Gone/Kaput/GTFO, and the next thing we'll hear is that news (DP fired) along with his replacement in the same post.
As @Valmy77 said, I'm also glad that DeLoss Dodds is gone because I was sick of him never saying he "fired" anyone. It was always the Bullshit Bellmont line, "X has been reassigned within the department," and then Shitcanned later out of public view. He fired them, so he needed to fucking say it.
Pierce must be FIRED in July!!

They could end up getting more work than they expected.

I read 27 recently but maybe that was wrong (or I misread).
Either way, it's much more impressive for both schools (UT UF) doing it and being competitive with less sports involved.
UF competes in SEC conference female gymnastics.
Are we going to start female gymnastics up now in the SEC? I know we never started a men's wrestling team to compete with the Big8 schools that still have wrestling in the Big12.

Schlossed and confused: When panic leads to an Earley hire

I saw some other account that's basically an anonymous account on X also say that it will be Vitello to Texas, but it also didn't provide a source, so I chalked it up to being a rumor as well.
